Food / drink 🍗 The 'help me figure out what to have for dinner tonight' thread

Tonight we're short on time and don't have more than 45 minutes total for prep and cooking. What should I make? (and before you say it, going out is probably not an option)

We are making tacos. Seasoned ground beef, hard taco shells, with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, onions. Chips and salsa.

Probably leftover corn as a small side.

Have a beer and whatever you want to eat. Make them get their own meals.

Fettuccine Alfredo is our short on time meal. Unless you want garlic bread with it.

Due to dance class and soccer practice it will be Subway (not my favorite, but The Girl likes it).

I'm seconding tacos. I'm taking care of the kids this week while my wife is leading a group at MDA summer camp. My oldest are helping, but I promised not to ask them to cook dinner.

Last night was "Hobo Tacos". I grate potatoes into the ground beef as I'm cooking it. I also use soft corn tortillas that I pan fry with the meat and cheese in them as we go. Kids named them hobo tacos....because they're obsessed with Hobos, I guess. Anywhoo, you can make Hobo tacos and they're a little different and fun, and it takes like maybe 25 minutes start to finish. Ba-dum-pum.

So what's for dinner tonight for Halloween. It can't be pizza for us since we had it recently. We had leftovers last night. I'm so damn confused.

I see you and I posted this same question upthread last year.

I think the answer is takeout of some sort, maybe Chinese. OR...because it's rainy and cold tonite some nice hot soup and sandwiches.

We will be making tacos tonight since it's relatively quick and we know it's something our daughter will eat up really good so she doesn't have as much room left for candy.

Regarding pizza - the last couple of years we had pizza for dinner on Halloween and I remember going into the pizza place those evenings and seeing what seemed like hundreds of pizzas waiting for customers. I know they always that the day after Thanksgiving and the day after Christmas are the biggest days for pizza sales, but I imagine that Halloween must be pretty high up on that list too.

You can always do hot dogs, or maybe brats for yourself. Quick to cook and quick to eat so the kids can get their candy on. You sugared up kids will look like this - 8-!

Yes, hot dogs and candy are the cornerstone of every nutritious Halloween dinner.

We had planned salads so dinner wouldn't get cold while we keep getting up to answer the door, but RJ just texted that he's going out to lunch, so he probably won't be hungry tonight.

Amazingly, my wife said she doesn't care if we have pizza again. So pizza it will be. I think it's because she's not feeling well and won't really eat much of whatever we get.

My son had leftovers. I've eaten catered or restaurant food for the past 4 days, and doubt I'll eat anything tonight.

For my recent blood donations, I received a certificate from Outback and the blood bank for a free steak dinner with two sides. We're using it for a date night tomorrow.

"Cook mine blood-red rare, please!"

We are having fondue tonight. Comfort food on cold evenings. I'm planning on opening a sauvignon blanc with the meal.

New York strip steak, asparagus, and a mixture of corn, potatoes, and onion sauteed in butter with pepper and a little chili powder. I'll be opening up that Hungarian merlot from Trader Joe's.

My wife can't figure out what to make for dinner tonight and expects me to come up with a brilliant idea involving chicken. Help?

If you are doing a whole chicken and have 90 minutes to roast it, I have heard this recipe of Jamie Oliver's is incredible. I would bet you could do the same concept with smaller parts (thighs, breasts, etc.) of the chicken, probably just reduce the cooking time.

If you don't have 90 minutes, which is a long time on a weeknight, save the recipe for a weekend and make chicken enchiladas with either a white cheese sauce or a salsa verde. Yum.

We're using the quesadilla maker again this evening. They turned out great the first time we used the maker. Filled with lots of bell peppers, onions, cheese, salsa, and some meat. I'm getting hungry.

I'm going out with a new "friend" tonight with her friends. Snackish foods and beer potentially, I think.

We just signed the paperwork to sell the house. Copious amount of alcohol will be served with something to eat this evening.

I have a special challenge for you all today. The missus had a tooth extracted last Friday and her mouth is still in pain. She tells me she's absolutely sick of soup (she'd been confined to soup for a few days prior to the extraction too) jello, and applesauce. Last night I made pancakes, which were pretty good and we had cheese ravioli the day before. I particularly need to find things that are soft, will not get stuck too easily in the open socket, and are not overly acidic (like sauerkraut). I'm rapidly running out of soft food ideas, though, and could use some help.

Old fashioned steak and kidney pudding.

Stuffed crabs or mushrooms without the crab part. That's usually soft and chewy.

I'm going to fry up a couple smoked pork chops before going out to coffee with my son and meeting a new potential friend.

I think it's time we went with some vegetarian fare. If nothing else I could make some chana dal, but we had that not too long ago and I'm jonesing for something new. Any suggestions for this evening?

Saag Paneer is good. Although you either have to make the paneer, find a place that sells it, or find a suitable substitute. (that's spinach and cheese for the non Indian eaters)

I'm going with leftover turkey myself. We actually cook turkey more than just thanksgiving! So I eat well.

If kjel were around she'd probably have some other good Indian food suggestions.

I have a feeling we're doing fish. Why? Because we've had chicken twice already and burgers last night.

It's my weekend to go grocery shopping. I'm thinking of getting some different things to try next week, and mix up the options a bit. Hubby always gets the same things, so I think I'm on my own for branching out.

My plan was to make toad in the hole, but it's too hot for that heavy of a meal. Neither of my boys wants to go out, so I've got nothin'.

Well, I was going to cook chicken cordon blue, but that may not happen because of car buying. We'll see.

But I have the makings for grilled Ham & Cheese sandwiches!

I'm making pizza for dinner tonight. It's easy and I have the ingredients so I don't have to go to the store.

For Easter, it's dinner for two which is the opposite of what holidays should be. I thought about ham. Or maybe a roast beef. I guess I should prepare, huh?

Lamp is a bit light for me, I'd stick with the lamb.

Good one. Too light... that's funny!
