Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Tuesday

1. I never thought I was a perfectionist until it was pointed out to me.
2. I hate being wrong, or even looking wrong. I think I need to work on that.
3. I am not generally someone who underachieves, but I always put that on the fact that my parents were really strict.
4. I am not certain how you instill work ethic in your kids, especially if you are solidly middle class, and your parents are highly educated, successful, etc.
5. I worry about things I cannot control. I think I need to work on that.

1. T minus 23 hours....
2. I plan to eat fried chicken and Chicago style pizza this week if it kills me

5. NOLA in October! WOOT WOOT!! <:D<:D:l::8::beers::awesome:

1) Wife is on call tonight. She got called in over the weekend. Should be a nice paycheck for her.

5. There may be no business like show business, but by that same token, there's no business like air traffic control either, and you don't hear songs being written about them, do you?

"Learning To Fly" by Pink Floyd includes a conversation with a pilot and the tower. I would assume the tower is air traffic control.

2) First cub scout meeting is tonight. Miniskis is super excited.
3) Not sure what I want to do for lunch today.
4) There was about 30 minutes this morning that every time I hung up the phone, it would ring within 5 seconds.
5) A friend of mine from HS and I discussed the importance of keeping score in our personal and professional lives. Not how we are doing against others, but how we are doing against our selves. How do we know if we are getting better if we don't keep track of how we are now?

1. I'd like to direct a low-budget B movie remake of The Godfather, The Sting, and Citizen Kane just to p*ss off all the movie critics

1. I ate BBQ from 2 different places both days this weekend. This is not a complaint. Yum.
2. I am wearing the :blueshirt: today, minus the tie
3. Fall temperatures have arrived here and is welcomed
4. I have homemade oatmeal raisin cookies for a snack today
5. Maister, Santa Claus is real. I hope you don't get coal in your stocking.

1) Trying to get out of this rut. Just can't figure out the reason for being in the rut, so it's hard to get out/stop/change.
2) Really want a dog or two. :w::w:
3) Wish the weather would start turning to Autumn. It's supposed to be 95 here today - that's too hot for late Sept!

3. Kitties were happy about the heat situation.:fire::m::brofist:
4. I have a difficult time saying no.
5. I am a pleaser.

1) I went to bed at 8 and got up at 6:30... and I am still tired. Might be time to pay the doctor a visit... on and find a doctor to visit.
2) My youngest turns 2 next week... and My wife and I have our 8 year anniversary next week too.
3) My truck seat was not in it's usual position when I went to lunch. I wonder if I bumped the reset button or something.
4) A very high pressure sales person from a TV cable company called me this morning. He actually told me that it was foolish not to have cable TV. I asked him how big his home library was to which he responded, what does that have to do with cable. I thanked him for his time and hung up the phone.
5) Since we are talking art, authentic Tomas Kincade paintings have a trace (but measurable) amount of blood in the paint.

1. My wine collection keeps getting too big. I need to drink more wine.
2. I find myself a bad collector of anything, because I am unable to move past the purchase. I won't use the goods.

4. My daughter seems to pick parasitic friends.
5. I've had two incredibly busy days.

3. I could live the rest of my life in perfect contentment if I never had to review another sign permit again
4. It's safe to say popsicle season is all over with for the year.
5. The temperatures are consistently going down, the leaves are just starting to change, and the cider mills are advertising their wares. Fall has already pulled into the driveway and has rung the doorbell. Shall we answer it?

1) My wife and I have our anniversary today. We plan to go out to dinner on Saturday (without kids) to celebrate. I bought her a pearl necklaces with matching bracelet and earrings since it is elegant to wear with a formal dress but casual enough to wear with jeans and a nice shirt, and classic enough to wear to church.
2) I shaved my beard over the weekend. It is weird not having it.
3) Last night, I ran on a treadmill while watching the Packers go 3-0. I think the distraction of the game was a benefit because I was able to run further at a faster pace than ever before without getting tired.
4) I found a house plan that I really like and construction price is within my target range... now I need to find a vacant lot in an area of the town that I want to live. The lot might cost more than the house.
5) We have had 5 days of clouds and rain. It it wasn't for the warmth, I would say I was back in MI.

1) Staff meeting this morning ran over. Not a usual occurence, but today we discovered an issue just in conversation and had to hash it out.
2) I realized during said staff meeting that my active case items are plat-heavy. My coworker is zoning-heavy. We may have to reassign some things . . .
3) I wanted to see a movie this week, by myself, but the movie I want to see is out of the theaters. I knew I was at the end of the movie's life cycle, but I had really hoped to squeeze it in.
4) Debating taking a scenic drive without the hubby this weekend. He's on call, so has limited range, but I want to explore a bit. It may be a last-minute decision.
5) Up to Season 4 of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix. I'm enjoying it a lot, and I wonder what I was doing when it started, and why I missed it.

1. Jealous that I don't have a grappling hook in my tree
2. Finally looked up what type of tree was in the back yard. Pecan, like I thought
3. My assistant is mad about yesterday's decision. Hate to see bad people get away with stuff.
4. Still have to talk to the guy about his home business.
5. Maybe I'll leave early after that.

1. I own a grappling hook but It would be awesome if I found one in a tree in my yard.
2. I had to explain why a pre-construction meeting had to occur before construction.
3. I know we need rain but 5 days without seeing the sun isn't enjoyable.
4. If it keeps raining, I'll need to breakout the flannel and start a grunge band.
5. Maybe I need to build an ark... where can I get some gopher wood?

1. We call them "pre-completion" meetings. :not:
2. I've lived on a main road since 1986.
3. That's about to change.
4. Someone thanked me for allowing him to continue work while they "addressed" violations.
5. Wait until he gets his mail tomorrow.

1. Been experiencing more anxiety than usual lately
2. Flags look cool. The idea behind flags, though, is sometimes rather less than cool
3. Sherlock Holmes is my favourite fictional character
4. Catholicism gets things right sometimes. Take the idea of saints. We all need heroes, right?
5. We don't have a dog but that may change in the not too distant future

1) Last full day in the office this week. APATX starts tomorrow, and I'll be there - at least by tomorrow evening.
2) Why is it I'm the only person in the group from my city who plans on attending sessions? Two people are going specifically for the AICP training, but otherwise the whole conference seems to be viewed as a seen and be seen opportunity. I guess that's the advantage of NOT being AICP and NOT needing credits.
3) Going to see The Martian this weekend!
4) I really like the Bonza app - more than Words with Friends.
5) Plans still moving forward for our office move. We were discussing cubes yesterday.

5. We had a lot of wind this week & the leaves are starting to fall. I'm not looking forward to raking

1) Michigan Won, Packers Won, I get to see the Wings on Saturday. Shame my FF team sucks.
2) After 12 days of rain, I stopped building the ark and went on a tour of two vacant historic buildings today. One of them does not appear to have been touched since the 30's and only did marginal electrical installation, as in 4 outlets in the entire house. The walls of the house were just wood planks, and it looked like it was a viable farm at one point.
3) Miniskis can now tie his own shoes. He was so opposed to it for so long. I think the threat of not letting him wear shoes was enough (ok, I didn't do that... but pondered it)
4) I don't want to say that I have a prolific sinus issue, but the idea of grabbing a dremel tool and a drill bit seems more and more appealing.
5) One does not truly know themselves until they have climbed through a pit of watery mud with barbed wire holding them down.

1. I would go to an Ed Sheeran concert. Yep I said it.
2. Lisa Loeb only wants to hear what she wants to.

1. I'm going to be an uncle, I actually thought it would be sooner.
2. Weather took a turn for the better. Clouds lifted late morning/early afternoon here.
3. I need to do some serious cleaning here for my upcoming houseguest.
4. I can't get the WIfi on my computer to work, works fine plugged in.
5. I should visit my garden tomorrow. It's a community garden plot. I'm guessing I should just harvest my green tomatoes and be done. Well those and the beets. I think I planted way too much in too small of a space. One of my most successful plants was beans, even though I didn't actually plant those.

1. Anyone know where I can get a good quality steak to grill for not a lot of money?
2. Thank god for coffee
3. It's funny how the zoning board meetings I worry about the most frequently go without a hitch and the ones I expect to be smooth sailing often run into rocky shoals
4. I would like to visit Scandinavia but cannot afford to. Somehow life will go on, though.
5. Perhaps you were expecting some exciting insectivore action, but please be advised that apart from watching them close, Venus flytrap plants are, in fact, quite dull to watch.

1) Staff meeting canceled this morning. Too bad, because I didn't eat breakfast 'cause I was expecting to eat at the staff meeting!!
2) Have a meeting after lunch re: reducing parking to save trees. Whee.
3) Really want something sugary, like a donut, but can't get that right now.
4) I slacked off this weekend and didn't take a walk on Sunday. I can't expect to lose weight if I don't get moving!
5) Personal life is boring right now - is it me or is it a sign?

1. Llama Llama Dumpster Drama.
2. Dumpsters have been the theme of the day.
3. Quote of the day thus far is "It's near impossible to get a dead guy to do anything."
4. Cheap land and buildings are cheap for a reason.
5. I still haven't found the cheeseburger that I am looking for.

1. Anyone know where I can get a good quality steak to grill for not a lot of money?

Chuck Eyes are my go to low cost steak. It's similar to a rib eye in flavor and tenderness but is fattier in general. Often I select a lesser quality/lesser know cut at a better grade (USDA prime) over high end cut at a lessor grade. A lot of grocery stores around here sell beef with USDA grade of choice or select; and one sells standard. Go prime or choice; life's too short to eat low quality beef.

1. Nice to hear RJ & ZG
2. Somebody upstairs got the proverbial cart before the horse
3. Part of me wants to go to the council candidate election debate - Part of me knows I hear most of the same stuff at council meetings
4. APA just sent me a 'welcome to the profession & please join us' letter - guys I've been a member for 3 decades, I'm AICP & do the CM stuff too:r::not:
5. I hate making cold calls

  • spent the weekend in marquette MI, gorgeous weather exquisite fall colors
  • Stayed in an AirBnB , PITA to get confirmed imo - not active FB user therefore i may not exist?
  • An entire apartment for the price of a hotel room!
  • Location was perfect, walk to everything
  • hiked sugarloaf on Sunday, too many hyper kids and dogs made me feel pushy at the top of the rock

1) I am sick of this health issue crap. My doctor has me taking my blood pressure twice a day. I am also on an antibiotic twice a day and it makes me feel like crap. My sinus infection is causing ringing in my ears, and the pressure is causing my vision to blur in one eye on occasion. I see an ENT this week and hopefully will get answers on how to treat the problem and not just mask the symptoms.
2) Wife has her interview at one of the other hospitals in the area tomorrow. I am confident they will give her the job, but it is going to cause some issues elsewhere, like we will have to move out of our current apt because it is not within 30 min drive for when she is on call, and her existing employer paid a sum of money for moving expenses. When she is offered the job, she is going to counter their offer with something that will cover these moving expenses.
3) Recently I have been asking myself a what the purpose of particular tasks, events, or processes are in my personal life. I am doing this mostly to boil things down to what is important in my life and what is just fluff or entertainment. Not that entertainment for the sake of entertainment is bad, but is it preventing something better from happening. I have come to the realization that I need to really reexamine what my goals are in life for not only me, but also my family.
4) Next week is going to be a busy week. I have NCAPA conferences 3 days a week, and I am going to TN for the weekend to meet up with some friends at a leadership development event. Normally I would be super excited about it, but with the recent health issues, I am not looking forward to it as much.
5) Some weather guy commented that parts of the NE might get their first sign of snow over the weekend. I think I am going to enjoy this winter not having snow here, but being able to drive to the mountains to ski when I want to.

1. I'm meeting with my new landlord this evening.
2. My favorite blouse is falling apart. Thank God for sweaters.
3. It's amazing how obstinate a really intelligent guy is.
4. I wish I had added a day to my long weekend.
5. My friends from my stay-at-home former life and I get together on civic holidays.

1. I would like to have a week to do nothing.
2. Just workout, veg out, and eat.
3. Then afterwards I get to go back to my life.
4. I think I would really miss my life though.
5. Which I would assume is why people don't just run away. That would be weird.

1. Know what I'd like more than a week's vacation? TWO weeks! I haven't taken off from a job for two full consecutive weeks since the 1990's. True.
2. I'm not saying that like it's some kinda badge of honor, but rather, a measure of insecurity
3. Toll house cookies. Mmmmmm
4. Spatz bread is the best toasting bread ever invented
5. I would just love to experience a drama-free period for 30 days. Would I find myself creating my own drama in its absence, I wonder?
