Lucky bastard!

My first one was last Tuesday. It did not go well. At all. First they could never get me totally numb. After removing the nerve (which had not been numbed enough and I levitated when he hit it directly with more Novocaine) he then did two of the canals which were very painful. At that point he said he wasn't going to hurt me anymore that day so I've got a temporary crown and I go back Wednesday to finish. I'm thinking the infection was really bad which may be why it was "so angry" so I'm hoping more days of antibiotics will make my next experience more tolerable.

In the kinda cool department though I thought it was pretty awesome that this machine takes pictures/measurements of your tooth and then they use a 3-D printer to create the crown right there on the spot.
Damn that sound horrible. My tooth wasn't that bad - they caught it early - wonder if that helped. And my doc had me start taking the antibiotic a few days prior to the procedure so the inflammation had gone down.
 
My sciatica is absofrickenlutely killing me at the moment. I accidently took a muscle relaxant (Tizanadine) at work when I meant to take a Meloxicam. I am soooo sleepy now.
 
Well I managed to dislocate one of my hips which came with a side helping if bursitis. It's been a long week. The upside is I've got training for being an old man. I can sit in the park, feed pigeons and squirrels.
 
I find if I can sleep in a particular position at night my back feels perfect (at least for much of the day). The problem is it's difficult to remain sleeping in this position, so the physical relief comes at the expense of adequate sleep. Right now I'll take the trade off.

YES. Either my back or shoulders hurt. I have a new mattress too!
 
We went to dinner at a family member's house last night -- which I've done many, many times and, since I have dumb allergies, I brought my own food and we grilled out. No big deal. They did have homemade sweet potato fries, made with safe EVOO, and I tried a few. In addition, we opened a nicer bottle of cab and I had two glasses. Everything tasted good and I didn't have any of the normal reactions.

At the end of the night, I noticed that my toes were a little tingly. Weird but I figured I'd been sitting too long and just needed to get up. On the way out, I did see a candle burning in the kitchen. I didn't investigate it -- although I will say I hadn't been coughing so, again, I didn't recognize any easy allergy symptoms.

By the time we got home, I realized my feet and ankles were swollen almost to almost twice their normal size -- something I've never experienced. I had to pry off a toe ring with plyers (can I admit that I still wear a toe ring?), took some Benadryl, and sat with my feet up until the swelling started to calm down. This morning, I don't feel like I got hit by a truck -- a normal second to fifth day reaction for me -- so I'm saying a prayer that it's over.

The fun part about being allergic to everything is that it's REALLY hard to pinpoint what causes what reaction. I'm guessing the wine or the candle but I have no clue as to why it would cause very specific swelling.
 
It's funny how when you've got an acute intense pain going on, like, for instance, back pain, that suddenly everything in the world revolves around that pain. That pain must be taken into account when thinking about doing just about anything. Have to write a report? Gee, how long will you have to sit in an upright position while typing. Have to get your wallet to drive somewhere? That's going to entail walking up the stairs to get the wallet from the nightstand and then going back down the stairs again.....

We didn't have stairs in the last house and this house is just a lot bigger. Even without back pain, I am aware of the trip upstairs. I was excited the other day when I realized a load of unfolded but clean laundry meant I didn't have to go upstairs to change clothes when I got home from work. :rofl: :handovermouth:

Not sure if it's a good thing, but we stoic back pain sufferers
will come creeping (swarming?) out of the woodwork.

I tore an iliolumbar ligament in my lower back last June working out, and it was probably the worse pain I've ever had as far as managing day to day activities. Every single movement I made I had to put thought into it. The chiropractor helped a little as far as keeping me aligned so my vertebrae weren't pulling too hard on the ligament. Luckily rest and A LOT of stretching and work with a foam roller slowly got me back to normal. But for a period of several months I was worried I'd never get back into the gym.

Not comparing my pain to yours, but just the idea that your back is involved in every movement you make. You can't isolate it like an arm or a leg.

I tore a muscle in my lower back. I'm also tall. I also found out I have bone spurs in my spine. It was some pretty intense pain. The type they put you on the good pain meds.

I have dealing with bursitis in one of my hips. It's not fun and has involved a fair amount of profanity. The doc, who is about my age, gently reminded me that we are getting older. Evidently, this goes with the territory.
 
Going through the second day side effect from the second the shingles vaccination. My but is dragging today.
Everyone I've talked to that has gotten the shingles vaccine reports being wiped out hard the next day. However, that still beats the heck out of getting shingles.

I've realized I'm now at the age where sleeping on the wrong pillow causes three days of neck and shoulder pain. And I have no clue why we have six pillows on the bed.

Is it the shoulder you sleep on? I do the most damage to my body in my sleep.

I tend to favor that side which is probably why it hurts more often than it doesn't.
 
This is what is ailing me now. Partially torn bicep tendon tear. Brace for a few weeks then more rest will hopefully allow it to heal and avoid surgery. I completely ruptured the tendon in my other arm 13 years ago. That surgery and recovery was painful and took a long time

I was talking to a young lady and had to explain to her how things have changed regarding vaccinations. I said that my parents simply got the diseases. My generation got the vaccinations for the things that would actually kill you. The other stuff, you simply got. I told that her if one kids in the subdivision got the mumps, chicken pox, etc, the moms would have the the rest of the kids go play with them. That way, it would burn through the subdivision and be done with it. I got the German measles as an infant and was immune to it. So when one of the kids got it, I got to go play with them since I was immune. Things have changed......
 
It's hard to change a sleep position to give the favored side a break. I like sleep.
Yes, trying to increase the quality of sleep by staying in a particular position often comes at the expense of quantity of sleep, because of the tendency to wake up when you want to roll over or move. Conversely, taking meds to dull the pain can increase the quantity of sleep one gets but usually at the expense of sleep quality, as REM cycles get screwed up and you end up feeling groggy the morning after.

Oh I was just affirming my gender. I understand that's the thing to do these days. At least that was one of my big takeaways from the APA conference.
 
Back has been roller coaster lately. Not so bad at the moment but the past 48 hours have been bad in general.
 
No matter how active I am I still lose muscle mass as I approach the midpoint of eighth decade. Arthritis comes and goes here and there. Not to mention completely hairless calves, really wild eyebrows, and way thinning head of hair.
 
My dad is in the hospital. He has an "abdominal cyst" on one side, and fluid in the opposite side lung. Tests and scans this morning to determine best course of action.

My stress level is high right now. I'm thinking I'll leave work early, stop by the liquor store on the way home, and drink my stress away.

A week ago Tuesday I injured myself running. I was doing a track workout and on the 1 mile cooldown headed back home I felt something off. By the end of the day, my right calf was absolutely killing me. It felt like a cramp that wouldn't go away and the next day the pain was very intense. The pain didn't really go away Thursday or Friday (it no longer felt like a cramp but it was still a dull, intense, pain and was now spreading up to my posterior). Friday afternoon I finally went to the doctor and after some x-rays and an MRI was diagnosed with a torn calf muscle. Not much can be done for it other than rest, so no running for at least 3 weeks, but probably closer to 4 or 5. :disappointed"

Sunday and Monday the pain was even worse. Last night I finally got a semi-decent night's sleep - didn't wake up in pain until 3:30 a.m., so that was a win! Once I woke up and realized I wasn't going to get back to sleep I went to the gym and alternated between the steam room, hot tub, and then sitting in the pool in 15 minute intervals. I was resting in a chair by the pool and asked an older guy climbing out if he could hand me a little stool so I could put my foot up. He could tell I was in pain and asked what was wrong. After I told him he said he had been a chiropractor for 43 years and recommended something called "arnica gel" and that it would help with the pain (he also confirmed my suspicion that the IcyHot I had bought was sort of worthless (his exact quote was, "That doesn't do sh!t!") so I went right to the pharmacy this morning to buy some. So far, so good! Much quicker pain relief than the Vitamin M I had been living off of since last Wednesday.

I had been hobbling around the house with a cane for the past few days but it looks like this might be the first day I won't need it.

You might get some relief from wearing compression socks too. My favorites are Sockwell and Comrad.
