Results of a contrasting dye CT Scan - found 2 cysts - 1st on the heart (surgeon said it was post op) & 2nd on kidney.

Had an appt with the ENT today. The nose leakage had stumped my GP so I got the ENT to put a camera up my nose and see what they could see.

1) No visible signs of damage
2) 90% sure I have CSF leaking through to my nose
3) 10% chance it's a polyp in a strange location within the sinus
4) Scheduling a CT Scan to determine if polyp or more serious CSF
5) Also "gathering" fluid for testing - and yes, it's as gross as it sounds
6) Return to dr once the CT scan results are in

I'm a bit freaked out - my brain is leaking!

Another visit with the ENT to discuss test results.

1) The plate between my brain and nasal cavity has broken
2) The fluid dripping out my nose is CSF
3) No polyp, which just means we can focus on the break/leak
4) Will need surgery

He is referring me to a more specialized specialist for the surgery. Evidently, the placement of the break is tricky, and this other doctor has more training/skill in the tricky area. I will definitely be in the hospital afterward.

I'll give more info when I have it.

Oh my. I've never heard of that just happening to someone. I've heard about injuries causing it.

I hope the surgery goes well.

Wow! Hope surgery goes well and you have a wick recovery. How did it break. (Let me guess... first rule of fight club?)

As for me, somewhere around mile 3 of 10 in this weekends mud filled obstacle course race, I had a really bad cramp in my left calf. It was the type that locked up the leg and curled the toes. I was able to work it out, but it didn't feel right for the rest of the race. Wife looked at this morning and thinks that I pulled the muscle when it cramped up since it is still swollen and hurts like hell.

Pray that your surgery & recovery go as well and completely as my heart surgery did.

Getting my gall bladder removed next week (outpatient/laparoscopic version of the surgery) - I'll yield the rest of my time to Sal, though...good luck with your upcoming surgery.

A week and a half ago, I had an accident on 3rd base in a kickball game. I sprained my ankle and it turned into planter fasciitis.

I suffer from terminal insomnia. That is, I generally have no trouble falling asleep at night as I'm usually at the point of exhaustion when I go to bed, but frequently I wake up early - like 3 or 4 a.m. - and can't get back to sleep. Makes for some long days.

I was hospitalized for that surgery because I thought it was just wicked heartburn and let it get farther than it should have. Surgeon kept warning me he might not be able to do it laparascopically, but I didn't know then what that would mean. Fortunately, he was able to do it without cutting me athwartships. Good luck with the procedure @Bubba.

And @Salmissra thinking of you and hoping for a quick and complete recovery!

I'm still waiting for the surgeon to call. I'm nervous and don't even know all the details yet!

My mom had her gall bladder removed as an outpatient procedure. Seemed to heal up quickly enough.

Those waits can be nerve-wracking. Sending good vibes.

With my heart surgery I had less than24 hour notice/wait before my surgery was performed.
Went in for a heart cath proceedure on a thursday morning, admitted, thursday afternoon was transferred across town to the Heart Hospital, scheduled for surgery by dinner time thursday, surgery was started around 7 am friday, back in my room around noon.

Reason/need for bypass surgery - blockage was a widowmaker heart attack waiting to happen.

My goal has long been to be able to sleep like a cat on a rug in the middle of a room of 20 people. (I have a big red cat that can do it)

My wife teaches a form of Tai chi, but still is prone to midnite jumps from bed to battle shadowy dream shapes. My best dip of the toe into sleep's deep end is to feel myself melting, like a pat of butter in a pan, like a salt doll dissolving in the waves of thought's ocean.

I had a very challenging therapy appointment yesterday and I'm having a surprisingly hard time processing it. I'm not ready to get into specifics, but it seems like I've been treated for the wrong issue for well over a decade.

MD Planner, I'm still in a holding pattern. The appointment Monday was a bust - Dr was still at the hospital and wouldn't make it back to the office in time to see me. She was also about to take maternity leave, so she referred me to a colleague at the other location. So now, I have another appointment next week.

Raven: wow - I don't know what to tell you in light of that news.

I'll look on the bright side and call it a breakthrough.

That sucks but glad you found out about it.

Wow - I love the Dr I met with today!

I have surgery scheduled later on, the week before Thanksgiving. I'll be in the hospital overnight, then off work (and basically all activity) for a week. WFH allowed the next week.

Lots of restrictions re: before and after. I took about 4 pages of notes today, and have a few things to look up for contingencies.

Based on current scans: no lumbar drain, easy access and should take about 3 hours.

I'll let you all know more when I've had time to process it a bit more.

You must feel a little more at ease now.

Well good luck. Let us know when you return after surgery

My back has been hurting ever since I spent several hours this past weekend hunched over the computer using a less than optimal chair with poor lumbar support.

Just got off the phone with the hospital re: admin for my surgery. I have to be there at 5:00AM!! Yikes!

Seems everything is planned, and now all I have to do is follow the pre-op instructions/restrictions and get myself there. Thank goodness Hubby is a morning person!

When is surgery scheduled - tomorrow?

Gad you are getting to go into surgery. Hopefully this will help the problem and you will be on your way to recover.

Getting old is the pits (but yes, better than the alternative). I enjoyed YEARS of playing soccer but boy am I paying for it now.

Interestingly for the past few months I have been seeing a PT to deal with a hip flexor/IT band issue that stems from too much time sitting (car, office, couches). This past weekend I drove 6 hrs on Thurs and 7 hrs on Sunday but walked at least 10,000 steps those days and the days in between and never had a hip or back issue. Verrrrry interesting.

Yeah, this was last night again. I'm hurting today.

Anyone ever go to a podiatrist for foot pains?

Do you get enough exercise outside? Turn off screens well before bedtime?

No, I have not. DON'T LET THEM DO SURGERY. Try PT first.
No one has suggested surgery yet. In fact, I haven't even seen a podiatrist yet. Before I made any attempt to make an appointment I was sounding out for input to see if it's even worth my time.

Where is the pain? Is it plantar fasciitis? NO SURGERY!

I am out of the hospital!

Surgery went well. Rolled into OR at 7:05, next realized that time was a concept it was 10:45ish. Had to wait for a room until about 2:45. Spent the night and was out by lunchtime Friday.
No serious pain, but the strong pressure, swelling, and tenderness continue. Pressure alternates between the bridge of my nose, and way up above my eyeballs near the head sinuses.

Restrictions: no bending, lifting, contact sports, nose blowing, drinking through a straw, sleeping flat, nose sprays, and various other activities for 30 days. Other items to be cleared by doctor: driving, riding in front with an airbag (had to be in the backseat to get home), alcohol, and going back to work.

Muscle soreness and some sore joints compounded by incipient arthritis after felling a 60 ft red oak out of the woodlot's edge right up the driveway on Sat. Did not hit any other trees as it fell.
Clearing the way took way more effort than I wanted to spend at once but had to be done by days end.
Still have twenty or so feet of twelve inch trunk to section to stove length, followed by lots of hammer, wedge, and ax splitting to size that will dry enough for this winter's use.
I swing a max 6lbs for hammer and use a three lb ax. Chainsaw is 12.5 lbs.
Sat evening almost felt like fever from exhaustion.

I'm glad you're home. It sounds like things went well.

Salmissra glad to hear you are on the way to recovery / healing. The post surgery restrictions / insructions follow them - I know.

Had my follow-up with the surgeon today. I won't give you all the details (some of the appt was spent with implements up my nose), but inside my nose is looking good.

Restrictions stay the same for another two weeks. Then I can started testing my limits on the bending and lifting of things.

Added saline rinse to the regimen. I have to do that for at least 3 months.

Thank you all for the well wishes. I believe the positive mojo was a big help!

I've got a 'catch' in my lower back on the right side, now on day four. I can't seem to get it to release.

I noticed it tightening up after yard work & then recliner.

My mom has decided to start hospice care. We are starting the calls to get it set up.

While not surprising, given previous discussions, her condition and fragility, it's still a big decision and I'm starting to process it.
I (we) went through the same with my mother almost 10 years ago due to end stage effects of renal failure. It was rough and my dad did all the coordinating, but it was actually a nice way to get to/through The End. My siblings and I got to have detailed goodbyes and it even permitted many of my parents' family and friends to say goodbye too.

Look at it as a comfortable way to end. It's much better than the alternatives.

God speed to your mother, you and your loved ones.

Mom is in hospice care. She's finally comfortable - no pain - and without the chemo she's not experiencing all the bad side effects of those drugs.

Discovered how many things she said she'd taken care of, but turns out she hadn't. That's been the nightmare.

When she is gone, I am going to update my paperwork and end days items. I don't want anyone else to have to go through this paperwork hell.
