NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

Cold (sub 25F) and cloudy overcast today and likely about 3-5 inches of snow tomorrow evening into night ready for the morning commute on Friday.

Thin layer of ice on flat surfaces. Did not get above freezing yesterday or overnight, so everything is slick. Hubby almost took a header getting off the front porch.

It's 84 here. Unseasonably warm. Not that I'm complaining. Humidity is low so it's really nice.

We weren't planning to go anywhere for spring break but my wife is warming up to the idea of traveling again. She's still not too keen on getting on an airplane so we're thinking maybe somewhere along the Carolina coast since we can make that drive in a day. I was curious about weather there right now so I looked up what it is in Wilmington, NC over the next 10 days (even though we theoretically wouldn't be going anywhere for another month or so) and was surprised to see it in the 80s there today and tomorrow... then it's supposed to drop back down to the 50s.

Visit the Beaufort/Hilton Head area. The weather should be good and there's lots to do. Savannah is close by too. And for what it's worth, airplanes probably have some of the best filtered air anywhere. Far better than restaurants and shops.

In North Carolina, winter temps can range bigly. I have known people that had their AC and Heat on in the same day due to temp swings.

Just started moderate snowing and forecast to continue through early Friday am.

My commute home in 2 hours may be 'fun'. :disappointed"

I've thought about that area. I'd like to go visit Parris Island and see how different it is from my memories.

One of my nephews is considering joining the Corps later this year so we might save a trip to the Beaufort area until he would graduate from boot camp.

As for the filtered air on an airplane, yes, I've seen all the studies that confirm that the air coming out of the systems is generally very clean but our concern is more about being stuffed into such tight quarters with 150+ other people for a few hours. There is still a lot of risk from breathing in the air they breath out before it makes it to the filtration system and we just don't trust others enough yet for them to be making smart decisions on masking or whether or not they should even be traveling.

Plus, a lot of those same studies that show how clean the air coming out of the filtration systems also show how disgustingly dirty the hard surfaces are on airplanes. We've always taken disinfectant wipes with us to wipe everything down before we sit down and settle in but it just never seems to be enough.

I've thought about this as well. But came to the conclusion it's kind of like visiting some old childhood haunt. It's not really the same, and it won't be the same experience when you're viewing it from the outside. Best to leave the memories intact as they are.

Got maybe 3-4" of fairly fluffy stuff last night. It's still snowing a bit. Won't be around next week.

EDIT: since virtually all the snow melted a couple weeks ago, today's snow on a 'blank canvas' captures a bit of the charm of snow in early winter. It's clean and picturesque.

We got about 2" over here but it's still coming down. You are right about it being picturesque today - Though she was complaining at breakfast about winter still going on, when I was driving her to school and we were cutting through some residential neighborhoods even my daughter commented about how pretty it was today.

Yah it is so picturesque I am not going to shovel it and let the sun do its thing.

Spring time in the South East...
Last Thursday it was in the low 80s.
Last Friday it was in the 30s in the morning.
Saturday and Sunday were mostly sunny and in the low 80s.
Yesterday it was only 45 for a high
Today it will be rainy and in the low 60s.
Chance of severe thunderstorms and tornados tomorrow.
Sunday morning it will be in the 20s with a high in the mid 40s.
Back up to the mid 60s on Monday.

Yup! & 70s the following weekend.

It snowed last Friday morning then it melted. On Saturday it snowed again. Now it has mostly melted.

Spring may have sprung here this week - it's currently 65 F - but I don't believe for a minute its going to stay that way for more than a couple days.

Oh, I'm sure we will get more snow before it's all said and done - but, Spring is definitely here now.

I think I can deal with this the next few days:

But a few days later it looks like spring will be back...
Was in Florida/southern US for two weeks, was nice to come back to weather in the 60s as opposed to the teens like it was Saturday here.

It's going to be an interesting afternoon and evening! 37 Counties are included in this Tornado Watch. We need rain (wildfires!) but not the winds . . .
Yep. I'm about to head out from the office to pickup 'Burb Fixer 2.0 a little early. About 15 years ago I witnessed softball-size hail where I live, with a friend that went to the hospital for stitches after getting caught in a parking lot trying to seek shelter.

Glad to hear our Texas cyburbians are all safe and sound.

Weatherman says we are about 20 days ahead of schedule for trees/plants blossoming. Which would explain why my allergies are driving me batty.

^^Small hail, came and went in less than 5 minutes.

Some small branches down and there were large puddles last night, but looks way better this morning.

Yesterday I noticed one of our maple trees suddenly exploded with buds, which is definitely on the early side for us. However, most of the trees in our yard show no sign of waking from their winter slumber.

The drought outlook for the west in Spring/early Summer looks worse than even last year, which we all know was the worst in modern history. Here is a comparison from 2021 to 2022.

OK... if GM does not buy the rights to this video to use in every future "Like A Rock" commerical, they are missing a golden opportunity.
I can see the small print already: "Not a Professional driver. Not on a closed course. Do not attempt this, ever."

Has anybody found the driver of that truck and conducted an interview with them? I'd love to hear what was going through their mind while that was happening.

^^Yes, it was a 16 year old on his way home from a job interview at a fast food place. He made it through with some small cuts and bruises. The truck is toast.

And he got the job!

I know a now-retired planner who experienced something like that in the parking lot of a grocery store. Luckily only broke his wrist.

His hair turned from black to white in a matter of weeks.

Turns out he had some fractures in his back but nothing too severe. And the local Chevy dealer is giving him a new truck!
