NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

That sucks. My house was built in 1915 and is reasonably insulated. Even though we budget bill, I am not looking forward to the next gas bill nonetheless.

32 degrees and foggy in the northern ATL suburbs, heading up to a brief high of 37 this afternoon. Days like this leave me pondering the geographic flexibility of my job.

Looks like we are going to get some snow later today... the "Officials" are suggested that people get off the road before it starts around 4 or 5 today. We had some freezing rain last night and the schools are all closed today, but there is a concern that we might get quite a bit of snow and the thaw/freeze cycle might result in black ice for the next week.

We got an inch or so yesterday and are forecasted for between 2" and 4" today. It started snowing around 7:00 a.m. and is coming down at a good pace now.

I told my oldest daughter that she needs to spread the rumor that if they get more than 3" of snow during the school day, they'll send the kids home early.

We got around 3 inches snow on Friday night. There was a lot of melt on Saturday, with refreeze that night. More thaw on Sunday, and more refreeze last night. Schools are out again today.

Yeah, you get that in the South. The ice/snow melts during the day and refreezes during the night. Plus, the don't treat the roads. It's a relief when it finally stays above freezing.

Snow is still coming down pretty good here. I went for a walk around the neighborhood after lunch and there are probably about another 3" out there on top of the 1" we already had. I'd really like to get a few more inches so that we have enough for me to get out the snowshoes as I have yet to use them this winter.

Storm reports?

So what's the final damage? Are you still digging out?
It wasn't too bad where I live...about 9-10 inches...but it was fluffy and blowing everywhere, so I still had to break out the snowblower 3 times.

The coastal areas got hit pretty good, 16-18 inches.

Still sunny down here. You should join us. Only you though, we don't want the rest of those people down here.

Yeah it was a lot of snow - we got 18" maybe where I live

Luckily Sunday was a nice day so we got out and shoveled and used the snowblower and it was all done in a couple of hours

much rather have snow than ice

You know, I haven't broken out the cross country skis yet this year. I think this week will be a good opportunity.
Likely, considering the snowfall estimates for your region later this week.

Wow, it's 45 out! Freakin' balmy! That is until it snows for the next three days straight.

About the same temps here, if not a little warmer. It also happens to be the first day of the year that the local ice cream place is open so I celebrated with a hot fudge sundae.

I was customer #2 for the season. I was early enough they hadn't had time to turn on their sign announcing their opening.

I'm surprised they feel it profitable to open this early in the year. Personally not much a ice cream connoisseur in the winter....

This place stays open until the weekend before Thanksgiving and always reopens around now. It's at one of the busiest intersections along the main arterial road through the northern Detroit 'burbs. They definitely stay busy. I've been there on afternoons with temps well below freezing and the line is 5 or 8 parties deep.

In preparation for the impending Class 3 Kill Storm schools were canceled for today at 5:00 p.m. yesterday evening. It started raining around 10:00 p.m. last night and was supposed to switch over to snow around 3:00 a.m. but it just rained all night instead. I got up at 6:00 a.m. and since the roads were clear and it was still just raining I went out for a run. At about 7:45 a.m. the temp seemed to drop about 10º and suddenly the rain turned over to snow and I started finding a few slick spots on the sidewalks and streets. It's snowing pretty good right now and there's already about an inch of new snow down.

The forecasts are for anywhere from 8" to 14" of snow for us. We'll see if that actually comes to fruition.

We got less and an inch and I think it is done. My friends in Champaign were complaining they had only received an inch all year. Nature has a way to play catch up.

Okay, a question for you folks that for some reason deliberately choose to live where "snow" (whatever that is) isn't just some random freak occurrence - Mrs. Bubba's 96-year old grandfather lives in western New York in an area that (allegedly) gets 200+ inches of this "snow" stuff per annum, and he apparently gets out every morning before sunrise to run a plow (or blower, I'm not sure which, but it's an attachment to a riding mower or tractor) up and down his driveway and several of his neighbors' driveways. Is this normal behavior for people that live in Artic regions?

Our snowfall totals are a pittance compared to what they get in Western NY or even the western side of Michigan.

When I was finishing up grad school and before we had kids, I contemplated applying for some jobs in Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc. but my wife wasn't too keen on moving, so here we are. If I were young and just now getting out of the Marines I would definitely stay in the South. I don't mind the snow and the cold, but I definitely prefer the warm weather.

Yes.

Though, I'm 'cheap' and prefer to just have a bunch of good snow shovels and the '3 man crew' that lives at my house.

Probably why he's still rockin' at 96. The cold air is good for the system. :scotch: :coffee:

I currently live about 250 miles south of the Parallel where I was born and raised (45th versus ~42nd).

Knowing him, whatever contraption he's hauling around while clearing snow is probably something he built himself. Apparently his next door neighbor follows along behind him with a shovel to finish the job.

As for me, I consider anything below 65 degrees to be freaking cold, so...

17 out this a.m. I'm guessing we got around ~14" over a 20 hour period. we cleared the driveway three times yesterday. Junior used the snow blower, but I just used a shovel. It actually took me less time to get it done with a shovel than with him farting around trying to get the thing to start up

They kept downgrading our snowfall forecasts throughout the day yesterday. I think we ended up with maybe 6" in total, on top of at least a couple inches of icy slush. In a Zoom staff meeting this morning, it sounds like folks just a few miles south of us got significantly more snow. Schools are closed here today again (after a 10 mile run this morning, I don't really know how necessary that was, but they were still calling for a few more inches of snow overnight and this morning which didn't materialize). I think I'll take the kids sledding later today.

yeah...our original forecast was for something like 20-30 cm over two days. I think we may have gotten just over 5 cm.
