NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

I'm conflicted on the hockey players. Is the white house using them as a pawn to make the pres look good? Yep. Do the hockey players get a special once in a lifetime moment at the white house regardless of who the pres is? Yep.

Then again, if I were king I would invite all the Olympians to something special that I just made up to celebrate them or maybe show up to some event just to say how awesome they are, but that's recognizing other people's greatness and not my own.

Better yet don't turn the tv on , go read a book.

It was great to see my dad this weekend, but he kept trying to talk politics and tried to convince me that there is "proof" that Trump beat Biden.

My question is the MAGA folks keep proclaiming proof, but I have yet to see any. Does anyone know what they are talking about? He provided some claims of post office officials turning over absentee ballots late and they counted, but I can't find any record of that.
There’s no credible proof and it’s an endless echo chamber. During the litigation over the election results, the GOP had little actual evidence to submit in court and they couldn’t lie in the court filings otherwise they’d lost their license.

A lot of people that have been swindled by Trump & Co were decent people. I say "were" because not an insignificant contingent has doubled down and refuse to receive any reasonable, verifiable proof that contradicts what the Orange Menace have told them to believe.

I completely agree, although I am not conflicted. I like hockey because I like hockey... not because of someone's political affiliation. Now, personally, I would not go if I were them, but I am not. I applaud the woman's team for not going. However, the official stance of the woman's team not going is:
"We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal–winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement," a USA Hockey spokesperson said. "Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate."

"They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment," the spokesperson added.

I think it is classy and even if there are political reasons behind it, they did the right thing and kept politics out of it. While I think it would have been great if they did the same thing as the Woman's team citing practice schedules and other obligations, I am not going to write them off as losers because of their decision to go.

I completely understand why people are mad at Trump and a lot of those he has around him. It is 100% justifiable and I am mad at most of what he does, but I also think it is important to be mad at the right people. Just because someone does not have the same political opinion or isn't willing to turn down an invite to be at the SOTU in person does not make them a loser.

How do you feel about a 79 year-old man posting an AI generated picture of him scoring the winning USA goal and posting it across the globe?

Never mind. Just more mindless hype for a narcissist old man.

At this point I feel embarrassed for him and embarrassed that he represents my country. I'm past angry. I'm just sad.

A buck forty eight... the man loves his own voice.

Colbert hit this, but he even found a way to make the Congressional Medal of Honor all about him and in doing so actually devalue it. I feel like he would've gotten fragged within a week of arriving in Vietnam had daddy not bailed him out.

I listened to 30 minutes of the State of the Empire address as I was falling alseep, and it honestly sounded like a bit from the movie Idiocracy. I should be scared sh*tless for my republic, but have just gone numb after so much of this.

Did anyone watch and what was your opinion? I didn't watch, had no intent to watch, and nearly all the summaries that I have read so far are biased one way or the other.

Here is a transcript of the State of the Union -

Yea... I am not going to read all that...

I ended up going to Chat GTP to get a non-partisan summary followed by a fact check to which they said:
Accuracy rating: Mixed but mostly grounded in verifiable data.
  • Strongest areas: Infrastructure investment, Medicare drug negotiation authority, job recovery.
  • Most overstated areas: Inflation victory framing, wage growth, and cost-of-living improvements.
  • Most credible concerns: Border pressures, democratic stability, national security risks.

Overall, it is still a very sad state of affairs right now.

This week's state of the union address marks 47 years of me not watching a state of the union address. It's up there with awards shows in terms of things I don't care about. And just like awards shows, I'll go back afterwards and read the "highlights" and commentary from my trusted sources. That's enough SOTU for me.

The Clinton's are testifying regarding Epstein today.

I will be blunt, I hope all of this because a reset button for a lot of major political and corporate powerhouses. I would love to see a lot of of these people fully prosecuted, including Trump, Clinton, Gates, and several others.

The R's are obsessed with Hilary. From what I've read, she isn't mentioned in the EFiles, but because she's Hilary and Bill's husband, they want her.

I want those involved to be held accountable. But Comer wants to bring in anyone whose not an R. He shown a blind eye there.

Some places say that Hillary Clinton's name appears over 700 times in the Epstein files, though the majority are reported as news articles. She states she never met Epstein, but did meet Ghislaine Maxwell a few times.

But just because she is mentioned, does not mean that she has any knowledge or involvement in wrong doing.

Her husband on the other hand...

I liken that to Obama being mentioned, but he is mentioned exclusively in the context of them bitching and moaning about him

I think everyone that votes D is very comfortable with the concept of Bill going down with Heir Cheeto. If the system breaks over the fallout from everyone going to prison, so be it.

That's the thing with this. The guy was a mover and a shaker and knew everybody. Just because somebody was at a party with him or whatever doesn't mean they did anything wrong. Now clearly some of these folks did for sure but you can't lump all together. And I'm not saying who did or did not do what because I have no freaking clue. All I know is that I used to go to parties and hang out with a guy who later killed two people. I sure didn't kill anybody and didn't know he did until after he was charged.

That is kind of how I feel about Dr. Peter Attia. He went to several meetings at Epstein's house and it was in the context meeting with other medical and longevity professionals. However, he did respond inappropriately in one or two couple e-mails that they exchanged where Attia said one thing and Epstein went down an inapproatate direction. It resulted in CBS firing Attia as a commentator.

But to @Suburb Repairman's point, if the system collapses, so be it. We will rebuild it back stronger, better, and more ethical.

I notice Trump STILL hasn't addressed the nation. I'm sure he will as soon as he's figured out a plausible explanation WHY we're suddenly at war with Iran.

You should read what Evan Bayh said after he announced he was going to retire. He retired eventhough he was a shoo in for reelection. The problems are multiple. As Bayh said, it's a permanent campaign now. Considering a senators term is 6 years-that means they are campaigning the whole time. Further, they are making decisions based on how it will affect their campaign, not what's good for the County.

Our system as devolved into a bread and circuses approach to governing. It's a sick form of entertainment that's constantly covered by the media. There are too many people benefitting from this media circus.

As poignant today as it was in 2010.

My wife went to order some clothes over the weekend and discovered a "3.5% Tariff Fee". She called them to ask why it was still applicable and they told her that until they get documentation from the federal government that the tariffs are no longer in effect at the increased rate, they will continue to charge the fee.

Barron Trump Bursts Into Tears After Podiatrist Finds No Sign of Bone Spurs
Andy Borowitz
Mar 2

Kevin Lamarque - (The Borowitz Report)—Barron Trump burst into tears on Monday after an examination by a prominent Washington, DC podiatrist found no evidence of bone spurs. “I’m totally screwed!” the young Trump reportedly shrieked, hurling himself to the floor of the doctor’s office in anguish. At the White House, Donald J. Trump said that the podiatrist’s x-ray equipment had treated his son “very unfairly,” adding, “This should never be allowed to happen in this country.” "This is what happens when you trust a real doctor," he said. "I should have just sent the kid to my new Surgeon General."
