The Devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin' for an election to steal
He was in a bind
He was far behind
In the votes he needed to seal.

:music:The devil had a bloated head, convinced he couldn't be beat
He laid 'the golden fiddle' on the ground- next to Ivanka's feet...:music:

I did not watch the debate, but I did like this opening paragraph from a story in Slate:

They laughed, they bragged, they boasted. They pledged fidelity to the Constitution. They cheerfully pledged to invade Mexico and dismantle the Department of Education. They got annoyed at Vivek Ramaswamy, for being annoying.

He's said he's 6'3" & 215. That's the same as Lamar Jackson. Sure. Okay. Right.

That brings me into the 175 range.

"He's said he's 6'3" & 215. That's the same as Lamar Jackson. Sure. Okay. Right."

Conspiracy theory. What are the chances the aide conducting the weigh-in was slipped a roll of C-notes when entering 215 instead of 251?

Also where is the profile shot usually paired with the frontal? The profile is more demeaning and makes a better record as evidence.

I think he was coached on the expression he would deliver. Despite Kubrick technique I think he wanted to deliver an intimidating visage. Zero respect for the law.

I don't think it actually was, but I'm going to call the Judge's reference to a professional athlete a subtle dig at the defendant's recent Club Championship "win."

BREAKING: Judge Chutkan has rejected Trump’s argument to delay his federal trial until April 26-sets March 4, 2024 as start date. Chutkan denotes she wouldn't change the date to accommodate a professional athlete's sports schedule, saying: "The public has rights here too."

What am I missing?

The Trump Trial Date Is a Big Mistake

"...an extremely suboptimal convergence..."

Ross Douthat expounds on the timing of the Trump trial dates in relation to the Republican Presidential primaries without mentioning the nominating convention in late summer 24. Would I be wrong to respond with the idea that timing also gives America the whole summer to process what's happening before the nominating event? It also gives time for potential 14th Amendment Disqualification Clause (Section 3) lawsuit(s) to make their way though the courts.

Is the sky falling in Ross Douthat's world, or is it something else?

While I think McConnell is a turd person in terms of policy, it was truly painful to watch the video of him at that chamber event in Kentucky today.

We really need to get past the number of late 70s and older that are running the country. There are a few now that just seem to be on autopilot.

No state / federal politician over 65. Keep local electeds old AF, but do not let that happen at the higher levels where we should have more choices. I am sad though that Mitch can't just explain what is happening to him, and sail on. There is no shame in it, he just has to admit whatever diagnosis he has (likely mini seizures), and people will understand. Pretending like it isn't a thing is the problem.

I thought about posting the actual 'The Daily Tarheel' link, but there are so many articles on what was published yesterday, Here's one:

It is a stunning example of journalistic graphic design for their entire front page, and telling a story without the reporter having to say a word. It got circulated through our marketing and public relations group today.

Politico asked the R candidates to list their personal 20 song playlist. Here are the results, but there was no Smashmouth or Buffett:

Gaining insight with some of these choices, huh?

I think it says something that only one of them produced a playlist that I would consider "current," and it is the one guy that I'd say is barely republican.

So Wisconsin Republicans appear to be planning to impeach a newly elected state supreme court justice for having expressed her own opinions that don't align with theirs.

If this comes to be, I'd say our democracy is utterly fucked.

Over her comments about gerrymandered maps

Those who unconstitutionally locked themselves into control over the legislature are apoplectic that they cannot gerrymander the court,” attorney Jeffrey Mandell, who is part of a coalition that filed one of the lawsuits, posted on social media Thursday. “They’re trying, again, to undo the will of Wisconsin voters and preserve their illegitimate power at all costs.”

Does it bother you that tRump's temper tantrums get more press coverage than Biden visiting Hawaii after the fires & Florida after a major hurricane hit? More press than - well actually news?!?!?!

It bothers me.

Georgia federal judge tell Mark Meadows he is not off the hook. He may be wearing stripes before long!

It's scary to me that I find Chris Christie the most reasonable candidate with R.
Disturbing. Although his policies were the source of my family’s economic disaster in 2011, he did manage some much needed reforms in NJ and worked with a Democratic majority Senate and Assembly. I wish he hadn’t been so quick to fall in line behind Trump and slow to call him out. He was an AG before being governor and rooted out a lot of corruption.

I think the GOP and their supporters will not vote for him and prefer the Human Cheeto instead. FWIW, I think it’s a mistake for Biden to run again and the Dems haven’t done much to cultivate a younger generation of leadership.

Trump is no spring chicken either, but Biden's avoidance of the press, scripted/annotated comments are beginning to concern me more than previously. I agree Dems need a younger candidate, ASAP.

Oh, Christie's got no chance.

I would hope seeing McConnell and Feinstein struggle in public would push party's to look younger.

It's crazy to think the two (probable) leading candidates will be 78.5 and 81 years old at the time of the election. I'm sorry but that's a problem.

My uncle passed away right before the 2020 election. We traded emails about the candidates and he lamented that he had to vote for someone older than he was (69).

It is a huge problem.

Frankly, I find it completely unacceptable. My vote this election will simply be against Trump. I hate not being able to vote FOR someone. There's minimum age of 35. How about just double that for a maximum age? Nobody over 70.

I thought it was pretty cutting edge of the incumbent Kentucky governor to air ads right after his opponent's primary victory to maybe tamp down any bump the challenger might get from winning. I still believe that, but it has become very obvious that it wasn't just a post-primary advertising blip - it's been non-stop since the primary, through summer, and now appears it will be blanket coverage until the general in November.

Living in a bi-state media market has its drawbacks.

Let's just make it ALL politicians and judges are capped at 70.

Term limits too!

Do you think the R's will figure out that if you launch an impeachment inquiry with no evidence, the D's might do the same thing down the road? The R's have held up budgets, military appointments, supreme court nominations, and other items of national importance because they won't get their way. This toddler temper tantrum has to stop.

The problem is that they feel like this has already happened or at least that's what they're going to pretend. While a lot of them feel Trump is crazy, they still held the line that there was any evidence.

The GOP already thinks that there was no credible evidence for the two impeachment hearings the D's undertook against Cheetolini.

Yes but at least things were laid out - this time they haven't even been able to find anything to lay out. Well they do yell 'laptop, laptop, laptop'

The stuff about Biden calling into some of Hunter's business calls is improper, but from the witness testimony, it seems more like Hunter showing off and not worthy of impeachment. Sadly, Biden should have known better.

This is going to be an interesting conversation given what has occurred at UNC and several other places recently.

I think it is a conversation that must happen at both the state and national level because what has always been isn't working.

Closing arguments today in Texas' impeachment trial of AG Ken Paxton. Some of the eyewitnesses called to testify were absolutely outstanding and highly credible... former Texas Ranger hired by Paxton as an investigator (and a loyalist) determining bad stuff was happening and taking it to the FBI had to be the most damning.

Analyst on NPR... "it is hard to conclude Paxton is anything but screwed."

I don't know that it's going to be that interesting. The top NC Republican says that gun free zones don't work and more guns are the answer.

I thought it was interesting that a couple of days ago there was story on the most dangerous campuses. U of M was way higher than any other which looks like it has to be some sort of recording discrepancy or that place is the wild west.
