Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene calls for ‘national divorce’ along political lines:
Why try to bring people together when you can separate them further for political gain?

Money in politics, and our two party system are the two main reasons we don't get sane politicians any longer.

How the hell did she get elected?
Go talk to the voters in the GA 14th congressional district.
She won her initial general election (2020) in part because the Dem nominee dropped out of the race in September. And, as long as she votes in lockstep with GOP leadership, she'll probably keep getting reelected unless that same leadership gets fed up with her antics. The real question is how the hell did she emerge as the winner of the 2020 GOP primary.

Truth for sure there. It is definitely a wonder how she emerged from the GOP primary, but there's a lot of blame that goes to the state democratic party in candidate selection (basic vetting question: are you going to stay in Georgia or are personal/family/career decisions pulling you somewhere else). Like it or not, nice guys struggle with elections. You gotta be able to punch a little, even if it is in your own "nice guy" way. Van Ausdal didn't seem wired to do what was necessary to take Greene down as a candidate.

A big issue, however, was Georgia's redistricting post-2010 Census. They transitioned from a nonpartisan approach, creating a major safe district for the GOP to the point it was almost non-competitive. Those types of safe seats have a unique ability to provide safe harbor to extreme candidates, and the primary process rewards the loudest, most extreme voices in that type of scenario (without an effective alternative party to counter-balance and cause consideration of success in the general election). The 2020 GOP leadership was essentially "frozen" in terms of how to handle extreme candidates due to Trump fallout. In many cases, they assumed these extreme candidates would mellow upon entry to Congress or that the leadership could rehabilitate them on arrival, which was a really poor assumption. Voila, you got yourself a wacko in the 14th. What's especially bad is Georgia's districts, particularly the 14th, don't look gerrymandered without digging into demographics (at least not in the way Texas districts do).

In Texas, I cannot wag a finger at all at Georgia. After all, it was our redistricting process that produced Louis Gohmert. Our redistricting is how I really came to understand the dangers of safe districts.

So tRump goes to a the Ohio Train derailment which was declared a disaster site.
Tries to pull off a campaign rally by giving away his red caps.
Donates tRump branded water & other bottled water of lesser quality (which he'll use as a tax write off)
tRump water hasn't been in business for ten + years (but has some at his golf clubs)
I guess he did not remember he/his administration lessened/did not enforce regulations on rail safety.
This ought to play well in the political theatre for the next little while. At least he didn't throw the water bottles to the public like he did the paper towels in Puerto Rico.

^^^Highly unusual for a jury person - much less the foreman of a very high profile case - to go on air.
True, which I was wondering if that particular aspect prompted the reaction from Mskis. There's also a much longer backstory rooted in the historic ineptitude of the Fulton County DA's office and election of the current DA.

Grand jury testimony is not public. Once released, jurors are free to stand on a park bench and preach about whatever they heard.

I served as foreman of a local grand jury and have served twice on state court.

I think the jury system is by far the most effective way for regular people to engage and to serve in administration of laws.

It gives all of us a window past those smoke-filled rooms behind shut doors.

My biggest issue is what if something she says is grounds to get any potential charges tossed out. Moreso she makes the whole process look like a circus and she is the clown.

Let's remember that this whole circus is caused by corruption and malfeasance of everything Trump touched.
I agree but I don't see your point. Trump creating a circus out of the federal government does not nullify this person going on national TV and making a joke out of our federal judicial system.

That grand jury was a state one...pay attention, bro.

There needs to be a pistol purchase permit requirement in place. I hope the Governor vetoes it and they do not get a enough votes to override the veto.

Having said that, if it stays, they need to take the politics out of it. Several people who work at the County confirmed that there was an unwritten rule for a while to drag feet and sometimes go way past the time allotted by state law with the issuance of permits. He got sued and things were back in line with what other counties were doing. He was doing it because of personal political beliefs.

Permitless Carry States - Most of the laws appear to have changed since around 2015. Apparently Vermont has been doing it since 1791.

I think the map is a little misleading. What is Carry? For example, in several of those red states you can open carry without a permit, but need a permit to conceal carry. More so, to get a concealed carry permit in places like SC is extremally less work than a place like CA, NY, or IL.

37yo Vivek Ramaswamy just became a 2024 GOP primary contender.

Sometimes I wonder if there should be a new thread on all 2024 presidential primary contenders of all parties.

No.

This is a 'neverending' thread on purpose in order to keep all the political discussions confined here as much as possible, so these discussions don't pollute the rest of the website.

Grifters gonna grift!

Today Biden's Student Loan Forgiveness Program goes to the Supreme Court to see if the case should move forward.

Personally, I think that this program is a good first step, but like most things, it temporarily treats the current symptom and not the real problem.

I was able to get the PSLF last year. I'm keeping all the records that say the debt is paid in case someone tries to comeback and collect again. Screw you guys, I'm debt free!

I did not get PSLF despite trying and sincerely thinking I qualified, but I only had about $10K left anyway, so we just paid it off back in 2020.

Now we're waiting for the SCOTUS decision to see if we can get some of my wife's discharged.

Are you worried about your tap water ?

There's too much estrogen in the water, the appointee claims, "from birth control pills. They can’t get it out.”

My neighborhood fits the stereotypical 'male streetscape'. (See "male" vs "female" communities )
So what will the tap water be doing to the men here..?

I am interested to see what DeSantis does when he becomes President. Will he go back to being a sane person, or keep up the game to try and get to Trump's ridiculous base? I mean these people just keep getting more and more nuts.

Now you'll have to register with the government if your blog about him.
