NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

Food should not be political, but it is…

What are your thoughts on the new food Pyramid?

Going into detail, I think it goes the right direction. Many health people (PhD & MD) have been preaching this structure for quite some time. The other element that this does not show is the Alcohol recommendation. Instead of saying 1 to 2 glasses per day, it just indicates that the less you drink, the better it will be for your health.

The National Heart Association agrees with most of it, but notes that more of the protein should come from plant protein and seafood instead of red meat animal sources.
I'm not sure I understand this new pyramid's construction. The base appears to be on the top and it shows whole grains as, I believe, in the use sparingly category

I agree that graphically it is not clear, but that it is how I interpret it as well.

The Guidelines emphasize simple, flexible guidance rooted in modern nutrition science:

  • Prioritize protein at every meal
  • Consume full-fat dairy with no added sugars
  • Eat vegetables and fruits throughout the day, focusing on whole forms
  • Incorporate healthy fats from whole foods such as meats, seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds, olives, and avocados
  • Focus on whole grains, while sharply reducing refined carbohydrates
  • Limit highly processed foods, added sugars, and artificial additives
  • Eat the right amount for you, based on age, sex, size, and activity level
  • Choose water and unsweetened beverages to support hydration
  • Limit alcohol consumption for better overall health

You would think this administration would stay away from pyramids. It's a multi-level inverted triangle.

It probably makes sense, but it would be more impactful if they go after added sugar. Also where are the sweets, candy, and desserts?

On the whole, I'd call it confusing AF.
It has been confusing AF since the Seven Countries Study by Ancel Keys. No one seems to know what the truth is. I completely agree that the graphic is crap. The written description is better.

Problem is big corporations and personal interests have gotten in the way of real health.

History repeating itself...

Wondering if we are heading for "widespread civil unrest" this weekend based on yesterday's ICE incident.

I hope not.
We're going to see a state guard vs. ICE violent confrontation within 30-60 days. I'm certain of it. Walz is already taking some steps that point in that direction.

It's definitely a possible future path. I hope cooler heads prevail.

I hope cooler heads prevail.

The past few days seem like a portent to a not too distant dystopian future. I’m with you on the cooler heads vibes, but I don’t even know how that would play out for a man who believes his own morality, not the rule of law and international treaties, is the pathway to restraint, common sense, and decency.
