NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

So someone on cable news was talking about how the capitol looks like the apocalypse with all the extra security and stuff. My 1st thought was this.

This does not surprise me much, although they lasted longer than I thought they would. I gave up my membership years ago as did most my gun enthusiast friends.

Until they change leadership and positions, I don’t think the comeback will be successful.

On a side note, the cost of ammo is ridiculous right now because of fear and hoarding. It started getting bad when COVID showed up in the US, and spiked again around the election time.

I ordered something new, but it might be a while before I can find ammo for it.

It looks like the a few rouge extremist lefts activists were part of the riots. Take a look at Josh Sullivan for example.

I don’t think they lead the effort or planned it. But the video evidence from Sullivan show that he encouraged it.

Trump's Census Director To Quit After Trying To Rush Out 'Indefensible' Report

The data report, Dillingham explained to the bureau's internal watchdog, was part of an effort to review how far along the bureau was in meeting Trump's executive order about using government records to produce "data on the number of citizens, non-citizens, and illegal aliens" in the country.

Dillingham's push for the data in the final days of the Trump administration came to light after whistleblowers at the bureau warned that the report would be "statistically indefensible" and could be "misinterpreted, misused, or otherwise tarnish the Bureau's reputation."

Stephen Colbert & CNN report:

"online discussions about election fraud plunged a whopping 73% since Twitter and other social media companies banned Trump and his key allies on January 8"

This is largely BS. The mob was overwhelmingly right wing.
Your response is BS, but thank you for further proving a very important part of the binary views of politics.

If you would have read my post above, it noted that 99% of the problem was the extremist right. But I doubt that any of these events were absolutely one sided. There were cases of the Proud Boys attending the BLM Riots for the exact same reason.

The problem is no longer L or R... the problem is the extremists at both sides and the lack of the rest of us willing to stand up and tell them to knock it the hell off and start finding compromises and move forward as one country built on respect and freedom for all.

A co-worker just told me that Trump told his supporters that they will be back and that there are now rumor's circulating that he will form his own party.

Few thoughts on this....
  • It will destroy the Republican Party as we know it.
  • They will never be able to participate in the debates because the debate cartel does not like outsiders.
  • This is not the third-party that I was thinking about

It would do short-term damage to the GOP, but ultimately is weeding the Trump fringe out of the party a bad thing?

It is bad for Republicans who want to win future presidential elections. Although it does feel as though the Republican party is fracturing, I wouldn't bet my money yet it will be the same story for the midterms. Moderate Republicans may have a short list of things they agree with the far-right on at this moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if both continue to come home to the Party's base if for no other reason than to act as a check on the Democratic Party.

I dressed up today. I'm not wearing pearls or chucks, but I did put on a dress to celebrate. Of course, I'm still wearing slippers and didn't fix my hair or put make up on. But it feels vaguely celebratory... :)

I wanted to wear a rugby shirt over my button down today and I've got a few to choose from. I made a conscious decision to wear my red, white, and blue one today.

The Republican party has been dealing with the fringe right-wing issues for the past few election cycles, including the rise of the tea-party. At the end of the day, everyone is going to go after their base for the support they need to get elected.

Lets not forget that he worked so hard to find a cure for windmill cancer, which infects and kills exactly 0 people all over the world.

My wife got called by the FBI today. One of her former employees at the University was seen on video in the Capitol. She said he was a decent worker and a Tr**p fanatic. That was all the agent wanted to hear.

Personally, I am optimistic that President Biden really wants to do the right things for the US for the next 4 years. I didn’t vote for him, and I don’t agree with several of his political ideologies, but I think his heart is in the right place.

I can’t say that about trump.

On a side note, when the Obamas, Bushes, Pences, and Bidens came down the steps, it was very apparent that there was love and respect in that marriage. The Clintons on the other hand appear to tolerate each other’s company for public events.

But...

I really question if Biden has what it will take to to unite this country and bring us back together. I know Trump made things worse, but Biden keeps talking about unity. I want to see it become more than words, I want it to be reality.

Maybe so but there’s a respect to those that have been in their place and understand their place in history, not grievances. We need to highlight the aspects that bring us together rather than the we versus them rhetoric.

It is apparent that the GOP has no interest in unity. Until the losing party can accept defeat and work towards unity, it will not occur.

The GOP has always been much more full of anger towards change. The DNC certainly does the same thing (look at 2016), so I am not casting all blame here, but it is the GOP's turn to accept defeat and they have already failed pretty miserably at that. Look at Cruz and the House Republicans Twitter. That says it all.

Unity can be speaking in terms that does not incite. Being open to new ideas and thoughts. Not calling people who disagree with you names and belittling their thoughts. I see the next 4 years of unity being more of that, and less of the policy unity, because the GOP has no interest in actually governing our country. The last 4 years have clearly shown that. The 8 previous show how they deal in the minority, by blocking and trying their damnedest to stop policy being adopted.

I think the road to unity is going to be messy. But a huge part of getting there is all the appointments of highly qualified people from historically disenfranchised demographics into high official roles. We need those voices at the table.

This is going to sound weird, but we also need to be approaching this with as much empathy as possible. Anyone a Brene Brown fan? I haven't listened to her latest podcast yet where she discusses this, but I have read most of her books. I am not saying I agree with any white supremacist ideology or that we need to be sympathetic and legitimize their concerns, and I am deeply concerned about the disregard for objective truth. But we're not going to make any inroads by yelling at and shaming each other, either. If we really want unity, we have to do things differently than how we've been doing them.

I want to be cautious as I say this because Biden is still a privileged white man. But I do think that if his administration continues along the same path that he started, he is using his privilege to highlight the capabilities of traditionally under-represented groups. That's going to rub a LOT of the GOP constituency the wrong way and might look like more disunity for a while. But for there to be REAL unity, this has to be part of the process. We can't just avoid grappling with it.
