NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Gas Price Thread

The news reported a nationwide average increase of 17 cents a gallon over the last two weeks. In our area its more like 25 cents increase.

One station I pass on my way to the golf course this weekend was $3.20, on my way back after playing it was $3.29

My usual gas stop was $3.31 this morning.

Price increases driven entirely by commodities speculators. No significant changes to petroleum supplies or demand in the last month.

I agree with your assessment. If you took $2,000 and invested it in crude oil ETFs 2 weeks ago you would have made about 10% profit if you sold today. After capital gains taxes you'll have $130 profit. If gas is $3.30 that profit will buy 40 gallons. If you get 25 mpg that one trade is the same as 1,000 extra miles free. If you did that with 5 or 10 thousand you would see how small trades can really help the situation. This may help you but it does raise the price of gas.

Gas in Honolulu is roughly $3.65.
I do not pay much attention to the price of gas. Now that I get 70/mpg I pay even less attention. I just hit 200 miles on my scooter. So I have spent about $10 on gas so far in 2011. I imagine more people in cities like Honolulu, where distance between in locations is short and the weather is generally nice, will convert to modes of transportation like mine as the price of gas continues to go up over the next several years. Sometimes when I'm scooting I play a fun game trying to envision what we could do with all the extra space we would have in the city if we could get rid of more cars and reclaim the space that has been devoted to personal automobiles.

Hmmm......

I just got a mental image of 1 million Hawaiians driving the local roads on nothing but mopeds and power scooters:lmao: How would they replace cabs? Maybe mopeds with multiple side cars? Rickshaws?

Gasp! :-o Have you ever taken a cab in Honolulu? I can't imagine how paying someone to drive me around like that exposed to the elements! I suddenly see a dramatic increase in cab-related ER visits in Honolulu.

I got all yallz beat.

$3.85 at my local costco. Yup, even at costco. Luckily i only fill up $20 bucks at a time because we hardly drive, but still, that Andrew Jackson doesn't give me much any more :(. God Bless Transit.

Was that in SLO? ;)

3.09 cash at Raceway today. The Gulf down the street was charging $3.39...robbers.

The store that was $3.29 on Sunday is now $3.41 today - a 12 cents hike in 48 hours - seriously :not::-{:-@

At least with transit fare hikes we see them coming in advance... gas prices just sneak up on you without much warning.

Saw 3.99 for unleaded, $4.29 for supreme at the only fill up station in this town between my job and home. ha :D

This is about 6-7 miles from downtown. Usually more expensive closer in, sure a few stations have broken $4.00 for unleaded.

$3.30 for 85 octane (regular gas on the High Plains...)

Paid $3.05 on Sunday when topping off the cars.

Today this Bear pumped petrol for $3.28 a gallon. Not bad, considering other stations in the Toledo Metro have ranged from $3.35 to $3.75.
_____

Any of you oldsters remember when they had the gasoline called Ethyl? It was always a treat to pump Ethyl.

:-c:p;):D

Filled up this weekend for $3.41. Last weekend it was $3.39.

I saw $3.59 on my way in this morning (not my store).

Just talked to a friend in San Diego. City average is $4.15. Urban stations are offering as much as $4.60! Cheapest in the county was recorded by local press at $3.97.

Bring it on. From the last time this happened, we know there's something like a +30% modal shift into mass transit use at around $4.00.

Never understood why gas is $0.75/gallon cheaper in LA than it is in San Diego. Makes no sense. LA needs a big gas tax.

Not meaning to boast, but on the Eastern Shore of the Atlantic we've been paying £1.39/litre for a few weeks. At today's rate I think that's US$2.27 per litre, so that's about $8.50 a gallon in England?

I don't see much mode shift, but people seem to be pulling back on other spending. I've been cycling a bit more though for short commute.

$3.98 here in Central Illinois. I agree with you Cismontane, we just started a ridesharing program in my region this winter and have seen a lot more interest in it over the last few weeks. The high prices do have me a bit concerned on the effect of the very slow recovery from the recession.

Tundra At The Pump

Just filled-up the Tundra on Wednesday. Paid $3.73 a gallon. Because I was running low I had to cut off my left arm as part of the payment for a fill-up. :-c;)

Some stations in Metro Toledo are now at $3.99.

Wall Street wins again. :-@

Wow. I knew gas was cheap here in SC but I didn't realize it was as cheap as it was. It's ~$2.90 here now.

The range here is $3.19 to $3.34.

Imagine that. The orice drops when summer and family vaction trips are over,

I hate you all...

$3.79 this morning... for the cheap crap at ARCO. Only TS pays more probably.

Bought/Observed on my weekend jaunt up to Mass.

$3.15 in Dirty Jerzey and I don't have to pump it myself :)
$3.35 in Lawrence, MA yesterday
$3.69 in Connecticut
$3.65 in New York
