What you did not get the notice of the scheduled work ?

I probably did get the notice in an email but their weekly email newsletters are so poorly laid out that I usually just delete them without even opening them.

Are you still injured?

I've got some lingering calf and lower back pain but have had a couple cortisone shots in the spine and that made a world of difference (and I have one final one scheduled for next Monday). My range of motion is still a bit limited but a ton of PT has made a big difference there too. I am back to running, though nowhere near what I was doing previously. It doesn't hurt to run once I'm up and going and I'm surprised that my speed hasn't suffered more than it did with nearly 6 months off. I think the biggest thing that has helped has been a lot of the exercises I learned at PT to really focus on strengthening my core and some stretches that I learned.

I did have an EMG a few days ago to check for nerve damage because my doctor was worried about the pain I'm still experiencing in a few spots and the lack of muscle resistance in a few area but he said the damage didn't appear to be as bad as he was expecting to see so that's good.

I do still need to file a claim with the VA since the doctor thinks a lot of the back problems have probably been building for years and years. I'm not expecting much but it's always worth a shot.

During my time off of running I've gotten back into lifting weights which I haven't really done in any serious manner in about 20 years and I'm actually really enjoying it. Now that the weather is getting nicer it will be harder to decide whether I want to run outside or go to the gym to lift weights but I'm still going to try to get in there a few days a week. Both running and lifting seem to give me the same sort of endorphin and mood boost but lifting doesn't leave me absolutely drained for the rest of the morning like a long run does.

This circus band I play with has a tune called Knock Out Drops and I said we can't play that anymore because it is about a date rape drug. They were shocked and said perhaps we should stick to Baby It's Cold Outside.

Benny and the Jets came on while I was driving my daughter to school this morning and it instantly reminded me of this performance on Soul Train with Sir Elton in his kicka55 green suit.

FWIW though, Philadelphia Freedom is my favorite of that Elton John Soul Train set:

Reminder of the day that you're freakin' old:
Tiffany Darwish (of "I think we're alone now" cover fame) is 52 years old.

Seems like it wasn't very long ago she was bouncing around the mall wearing her high tops and jeans jacket.

Oh my, I've been hating her music for 52 years.
I believe you mean you've been hating "that song" for 52 years. Name another song, I dare you. No google - honor system. :)

Wait, I remember one. It was a good nerdy-kid slow song and Dawn Gutknecht would dance with us band nerds (she was willing to, she was a flautist, I played the oboe) in 7th grade and she always put her head on your chest and she had like a tiny heart-shaped sticker in the corner of her eyeglass lens. sigh To be young and dancing with Dawn Gutknecht in the gym.

That's my over-share for the day. I'm done, you're all in the safe-zone.

When I walked into the Mall of America last week (killing time before heading into town to check in for NPC) there was a stage set up and my first thought was "is Tiffany coming?"

Glad to hear your are mostly better and that you responded well to the cortisone shots! PTs are miracle workers!

TIL that Tiffany has a last name.

Also, my older sister's first concert was Tiffany during her "mall tour" at Eastland Mall in Detroit in 1987. She loved it so much she convinced my dad to take her back for a second show a day or two later.

^^ I was Count von Count for Halloween when I was maybe 3 or 4 (picture one of those early '80s plastic-y smock costumes from KMart or the dime store with a rigid plastic mask held on with a circulation-cutting-piece-of-elastic-string). We were having dinner and my parents told me I had to finish my peas before my dad would take me trick-or-treating. I despised cooked peas back then and I still hate them now. I ate all I could stomach and still had a few left on my plate so I decided to start trying to hide them, I forget where I hid the first few but eventually I must have figured I needed a new spot so I put one in my nose. And I really shoved that sucker up there.

I immediately knew something was wrong.

It was stuck.

I panicked.

In between shouts and laughter from my parents asking why I did that they finally calmed me down enough to get me into the car, in my Count von Count costume, and took me to a neighbor's house. The neighbor was a nurse and she laid me down on the dining room table, still in that Count von Count costume, and used some long thin tweezers to fish that disgusting snot-coated pea out from somewhere that I can only assume was halfway into my frontal lobe.

That is honestly one of my earliest complete memories.

I like peas & mashed potatoes,
family makes a pea salad (sour cream, mayo, finely diced purple onion, & diced bacon)

Nope, can't name another song.

Everything great about Ren & Stimpy is summed up by this one musical number

Might have to throw one of our developers in for a state planning award for their work on growth analysis stuff.

I am intrigued. Compliments to developers don't get tossed around here very much.....

Not sure why my brain said developer, probably my hate for the Tiffany song making me feel older today. I should have said consultant. He does demographics for schools and did a good job with ours. Higher detail, plus a tool developed to track growth over time.

Got to the house. Everything is extremely yellow here - truck, driveway, well everything! The pollen really exploded while we were gone. Kinda glad I missed it for a week.

Okay I also missed Tiffany & the Count with a snotty pea in the nose looking @ dandy’s Olympic foot & dirndl pictures, counting stuff money & preparing a developers or consultant nomination while listening to Rem & Stimpy.

Got it!

I found the sound of that song annoying and the lyrics doubly so.

I'm sure you like it though.
I found exactly the opposite. I've been singing it again in my head since yesterday! There are any number of dorky, catchy songs, but that era boasted more than its share.

The earthquake ignited several fires that burned for three days and destroyed nearly 500 city blocks. Thousands died.Today we commemorate 118 years of seismic discovery, research, and resilience.

At the surface, an offset of 20 feet was observed
