Every once in a while we'll be watching some British show or movie and I'll need subtitles because they're accents are so thick that I miss too much. It's more so a problem in comedies than action/dramas because in most dramatic stuff, things move slow enough that I can keep up easily just based on context but with comedy, especially dialogue-heavy ones, I often miss little things in the jokes because of mumbling or accents so I like to turn them on.
I also have Hulu set to automatically show subtitles for a few moments when I rewind. There are many times I'll be watching a show and they'll make a joke and I hear it alright but don't often believe my ears that they just said that so I like to be able to rewind and confirm that they did indeed go there!
