See the Donner Party Monument
I had to send a coworker who lives in Truckee CA over to look at a project on the NorCal coast a few years back - snow was in the forecast for the morning she was going to head out. I asked if that was going to be an issue, and the response was "I'll be fine once I get past Donner Mountain." Me: "Um, maybe pack a few snacks to be on the safe side."

My grandfather grew up in Carson City, not too far from Donner. Any time he mentioned it, he'd make a little Phtphtpht sound. Kinda like this:
Hannibal Lecter Horror GIF

1) Feels like June here today. It is a good thing that the pool opens up on Friday.
2) Still no answer with interview. Hoping for good news.

5) Looking for a suggestion for a good planning related book for my next read.

4. I'm grateful that one of my sons took care of some heavy lifting for me.
5. There's a new restaurant in town that I'll try during lunch on Thursday.

Thinking about starting a "People's Podcast" in which this veritable host will interview average everyday folks eking out a living in the Rust Belt despite mounting odds against any kind of success in our capitalist society. Would you help me identify five subjects that will garner interest for this atypical form of program?

1. Need to interview a dropout from a community college to learn about life in her/his Rust Belt neighborhood
2. Need to interview a single parent raising kids while watching Debt Ceiling Showdown 2023 because the Social Security checks from deceased spouse might not get sent after June 1
3. Interview with a bankruptcy judge that lives in a gated community
4. A live streaming event at the local mall to interview workers at the "push cart" retail stations and ask them if their bosses are local business leaders invested in their success
5. Roundtable with a realtor, a banker, a member of the local chamber of commerce who is the main landlord advocate, a leader from the home builder association, and the head of the local homeless nonprofit to address questions about why there is a housing shortage in the local Legacy City and immediate region

1. I found $10 in the landscaping next to the sidewalk this morning. Lunch Money!

4. There are no night meetings this week on the calendar which is refreshing
5. If you find it hard to laugh at yourself, I would be happy to do it for you - G. Marx

5. Thursday is German Father's Day. All the stores etc. are closed and the menfolk go off into the countryside with their buddies and a wagon full of beer.

2) I really need a good quality vacation.
3) The Weather People are calling for strong storms later today.
4) I love watching hockey, but it is on way past my bed time. I watched the first period last night and was in bed.
5) We are doing a minor update to our comp plan this fall, and following up with several text amendments. We will have substantial public engagement which will help be the driving force for the public hearing for both the adoption of the plan updates and the text amendment updates. This way "The Two" will have less chance to go against the will of the people.

1) Tuesday night is meeting night.
2) I made a huge "get stuff done" list this morning and have made some progress I'm happy with.
3) My neighbor called me at 10 this morning and our 20-lb kitten had punched out our kitchen screen window and got outside. She wrangled him so i went home to put him back inside and close the window. He's a big dumb lug and now I'm glad we had him chipped.
4) I'm behind getting my snow tires off as my wife's work since January has been such that I was the only one taking my son to/from school these last few months. Her schedule has shifted now and I can't wait to get them off (studded, so loud)
5) We had such a nice, shill Mother's Day. My wife said she wanted to go for a hike at about 9:30 in the AM and I found a place that a)she had never been b) was within an hour's drive c) with totally dried-out trails and d) that our son actually thought was pretty cool. She had a great time and then we hit the nursery for more plants.

1) I don't think the Canes will play another game in Raleigh this year.

3) Coworker in another department had multiple strokes over the past couple of weeks... he is the same age as I am.
4) I have big plans for my backyard landscape... problem is affording what I want to do. I can do almost all of the work, but it is the material costs that get me. (Plunge Pool, Retaining Wall, Patio, Outdoor Kitchen, Pergola, Plants)
5) The first of several new restaurants that are within walking distance of my house opened yesterday. We are going to give it a few weeks for the crowds to settle down before we go.

1. Bush beans and zucchini have been sown
2. Just have a few remaining tasks in the garden, such as filling 7 gallon bags for rutabagas and squash plantings
3. Busiest May we've ever had in recent memory
