Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1. Vacation starts today
2. D&D group meets this afternoon. Hopefully some fun will be had
3. I'm ready for vacation. Past ready, rather
4. I wonder if posh British people actually ever say "rather" when suggesting approval of something
5. I have never been bitten by a rat. Hope to keep it that way.

1. I slept in a little tent last weekend. I didn't mind little, but I didn't like stumbling out of it.
2. New bigger tent should be delivered today.
3. It's pretty cloudy here today with a cool breeze.
4. I'm meeting a friend for dinner. She hasn't been well and I'm happy she feels like coming out.
5. Calling people and asking for money must be lucrative. Calling me and asking for money isn't lucrative.

1- I'm getting extended warranty information on my car mailed to me but in the previous owners name
2- No one is working today on the project downtown & they can't blame the weather as its a beautiful cloudless sky
3- Downtown concert last night was okay, light turnout maybe because of heat
4- The Girl is learning about commuting to work this summer as its an hour+ drive
5- My Father's Day plans include pressure washing the patio this weekend.

1) Drove to Houston and back yesterday. Sat at a public hearing on a hard plastic chair. Not fun.

2) Had weird dreams last night. Wonder if that's a result of the long drive/memories of making that drive in the past?

3) Don't know what the deal is, but the Dallas Mavericks are sucking right now. Luka can't do it alone!!

4) Vacation starts next week. Great time to be diagnosed with asthma.

5) I need a nap. Or more caffeine. Or both.

1. Euros start tonight!
2. Scotland plays Germany in Munich.
3. Apparently the Scottish fans have drunken some of the bars dry in Munich.
4. Wish I was at the game.
5. Haven't purchased anything for Father's Day yet.

1. Got a lovely text from my child remarking on my new Pride flag flying today. A tear or several may have been shed.
2. Tomorrow is the 805th anniversary of the Danish flag (Dannebrog) falling from heaven to the beleaguered troops in Talinn, Estonia, and turning the tide of battle.
3. Sunday is the anniversary of my mother passing. Sixteen years seems like an eternity, frankly.
4. Also Father's Day, but we are delaying celebrating until next weekend.
5. Monday would have been my 30th wedding anniversary. Now she's just someone that I used to know.

1. Finalizing summer travel plans.
2. To rent a car or use mine?
3. Wife has to gamble that a hotspot will suffice for her school work.
4. I could do that drive (750 miles) blindfolded.
5. Vacation is always over too soon.

1- helping mom with the paperwork selling her condo in FLA, she can't grasp the electronic signature thing is real
2- we are cleaning out a lot of old records at home & I found an IRS audit on me from 1987
3- saw we (2 college grads) made $33,393 in combined income in 1987
4- plan on using lots of air conditioning this weekend
5- "Dammit Im Mad" spells the same thing spelled backwards.

1- this week has had kinda a weird vibe & it's continuing today
2- willful ignorance
3- The Girl was excited when she saw a Hellbender yesterday
4- Inside Out 2 is playing at the movie theatre next to us & kids are dressing up as different characters
5- I've been ready for this election to be over & after last night, that desire that increased 50-fold!

1. Agree with @Planit.
2. Finally got out all the stitches from my basel cell removal and skin graft on my nose.
3. Wear sunblock!
4. Really miss playing soccer and running.
5. Was unable to get season tickets for our local soccer club. 🙁

1 - Looooooooooooooong week. Twice woke up thinking it was a day ahead of what day it actually was.
2 - Alone in the office today - manning the front counter, the phone, and trying to write a very complicated NOV. Actually just got it sent to our attorney for review.
3 - And got an email that he is out of the office until Monday. That's what I get for busting my ass, I guess.
4 - Someone filled the candy jar with orange-flavored Life-Savers. Things are like crack to me.
5 - Someone please tell Joe Biden he can stand down now. His work is done.

1. Vacation time approved
2. Frustrated with insurance (hers - USAA) as it took a week to get a response from her and no rental car available until Monday
3. USAF Thunderbird airshow this weekend - probably attended 10 of their shows
4. Had a Maverik brisket breakfast burrito this morning - damn good
5. Queen Elizabeth, evidently, preferred her scrambled eggs with lemon zest and nutmeg

1. The first lettuce plant bolted. I expect more to follow rapidly
2. I haven't decided what to plant in place of the lettuce. It's early July - any suggestions?
3. I have the afternoon off. Mrs. Maister has unilaterally decided to take the afternoon off too so we can spend time together
4. I don't have the heart to tell Mrs. Maister, that I'd really rather be alone this afternoon.
5. Being an introvert is tough. We're frequently misunderstood more than a little bit.

Re: #4: "Sorry hon, something came up at work I need to take care of. I will see you tonight though."

Jim

1) Way too many loose ends regarding my location for my comfort. My job and the moving company are the only things locked down. Wife has an interview for 3 possible jobs and the CM and my real estate agent are looking at a house to rent next week.
2) We are going to miss our neighbors. For the past several years we have done a little (legal) fireworks show in front of our driveway and all the neighborhoods would gather. One of the neighbors pointed out that this was the last time that we would do that.
3) I think we are going to go out for dinner tonight. We need to get out.
4) Storm clouds have been around, but there hasn’t been any rain at my house.
5) I have been using an iPad with a BT keyboard as my personal laptop. It seems to work well for most things.

Since I missed "Three Things Thursday" (two weeks in a row now, but excused both times), I will participate in FTF instead this week.

1. Got a new smart watch; works better than my old one, but the steps count is overly generous. No way I've taken anywhere near 7,000 steps today. Gotta learn how to adjust that.

2. We don't really go out on the 4th. We just went to the river by our house and grilled hot dogs.

3. Somehow, Facebook thinks I am planning a trip to London, because I keep getting ads for places there to see. No plans to visit there in the immediate future.

4. We are now closer to 2025 than we are to 2023.

5. It would be cool if there was some sort of app with VR glasses that let you use CAD software to design your backyard, then put the glasses on and see what it would look like.

1. Attending someone else's retirement party has become a bittersweet experience; a combination of genuine well-wishing and thinly veiled jealousy
2. Saw locally grown corn on the cob just went on sale at the farm stand. Still too early in the season for my tastes
3. I gotta WHOLE LOT of canning to do this weekend
4. Just finished season 1 of Shogun on Hulu. It ended basically where the 1980s miniseries did. Season 2 should be fascinating
5.

1. Got a bad pedicure today. Ouch.
2. Gotta big clean the house this weekend. Boo.
3. Itty Bitty had fun as horse camp.
4. Anyone wanna come dog-sit for a long weekend in August?
5. Want to paint our front door but unsure what color to choose.

1- Boo
2- Ugh
3- Cool
4- YES
5- Purple

1) Went from not much on my to-do list to adding a second page.

2) Still coughing. All other noticeable COVID systems gone.

3) Keeping the weekend plan-free so I can just rest/prep for a full work week.

4) Starting Sept 1, we're going to 4 days a week in the office. Boo.

5) I hope to convince Hubby to order dinner rather than me cooking it.

1) We had an outside contractor who did a deep cleaning of our house today. They did carpets, windows, vents, and everything in between.
2) If is finally raining. We are down a couple of inches so far this month. Best part about it is for where our house is, it has been someone study rain all day instead of just a downpour. My lawn will love it.
3) Spoke with our real-estate agent today. They found us a 6-month rental and it will be available for when we get there. Scary part is it might be someone sight unseen since the current tenant does not move out until the 17th and we move in on the 30th. But it is my agent who is doing to do all the cleaning and repairs and she knows that if they do a good job, we will use her to buy a house to move into in January. We will see photos of it before we move in, but we need to get the lease going now because of school registration for the kids.
4) Our Parks Director is organizing a going-away event for me. Best part is that it will be tomorrow evening and at an establishment that I walk to from my house!
5) I think that I am going to get pizza for dinner tonight. I slept like crap last night and I don’t feel like cooking.

1) Local builder is flipping out that we won't issue the CO before the electric meter is installed. Power company and everyone has been very clear that he does not need to wait until that moment.
2) 6 Work Days Left (including today) but who is counting
3) I did not sleep all that well last night and I am worrying that I might be coming down with something.
4) Family and I are going to see Twisters on the Imax screen tomorrow while the realtor does the open house. I think that I am going to have the kids watch the original Twister movie tonight or tomorrow morning so they get an idea on what it is all about.
5) Going out to lunch today with my staff since one of them will be on vacation all next week.

1) New cube location is much quieter than old cube location. I like it!

2) This weekend is full of plans. Some will be fun.

3) I was kinda hoping for the big outage to affect us this morning. So far we're running smoothly.

4) I've taken a page from LP's style book. I bought a couple dresses and have put them in the wear to work rotation.

5) I'm not looking forward to August in general. Hot. No holidays. No travel.

1- body shop wants $1800 to fix two 3" scratches on the car door
2- going to the baseball game tonight since Mrs. P is out-of-town
3- followed by golf on Saturday, if it doesn't rain
4- after yesterday's rain, I think we need to extend a downspout at our building
5- next week's calendar is getting full

How is my day going?

1 - learn what things cost before you issue a RFQ
2 - learn what things cost before you issue a RFQ
3 - learn what things cost before you issue a RFQ
4 - learn what things cost before you issue a RFQ
5 - learn what things cost before you issue a RFQ

I had multiple clients today that apparently budgeted like it was 2014 and inflation is fake.

I can get you a bunch of costs on for fire, police, streets, water, sewer, parks, etc. if you need them. It's specific to my city, but I'm sure it's the same everywhere. Generally double to triple the 2020 costs

1) Last day!
2) We still have a lot of packing to do.
3) I need to take my truck in for an oil change tomorrow.
4) In packing, we found a box that we have not opened since before our kids were born. That was 3 moves ago.
5) Almost no one is at City Hall today. Most are taking vacations this week, working remotely today, or are gone to conferences.

I would say just toss the box at this point . . .

Conferences in July? I always thought that July and December were sort of "blackout months" for conferences.

Good luck with your move?

1) Spilled my first cup of coffee on my light-colored pants.:coffee:

2) Don't have to cook dinner tonight - we're doing Chinese takeout! Yum!

3) I am tired.

4) Anyone watching the opening ceremony? We'll have it on the conference room TV.

5) I'm ready for my mid-morning snack.:donut:

1- mayor mean well but is impatient on several things
2- I broke down yesterday and turned the AC on in my car, it's usually windows & sunroof open
3- the contractors on the downtown projects are really behind so it looks like we'll be getting $$$ for liquidated damages in the spring
4- Mrs. P & I were thinking if we should rebuild the deck or build a 2-car garage or bite the bullet & do both at the same time
5- need to find a developer for a couple smaller projects, but only tract builders are around

4- Mrs. P & I were thinking if we should rebuild the deck or build a 2-car garage or bite the bullet & do both at the same time
The rule in our house: one major project per year, maximum. That's why we waited until this year to do the siding, after last year's 10-month-long master bathroom fiasco.

Next year will be the backyard.

1. Hoping to go see Deadpool & Wolverine tonight.
2. Going to Lion's season ticket holder welcome back training camp practice tomorrow.
3. My garage is probably the emptiest it's been this far into the summer in a long time.
4. That's because for the three previous summers my daughter's class built their homecoming float in our garage and were stockpiling supplies.
5. I got nothing else.

Tomorrow, I will be taking some stuff to the dump that the previous owners of the house said they'd be back for. We need the room. We closed July 31, 2013--over a decade ago--so I think it's been a reasonable time to wait. I don't have any current contact info for them. I could probably try to track them down using public records, but a) that seems a little creepy, and b) I don't feel like it.

(Not much, just a couple of banker boxes of rusty tools and construction odds and ends.)

Jim

1) We are getting our internet connected tomorrow. It has been such a painful couple of days for the kids.
2) My wife was a little uneasy about moving. But now that we are here, she can’t stop saying about how beautiful the community is. She even got teary-eyed when I pointed out that this is home now.
3) We ate take-out pizza at the dining room table last night. First time in a week.
4) I connected the antenna to the TV last night and watched a little pre-season football.
5) I am really looking forward to starting the new job on Monday.

1- looks like the first couple days of vacation will be very wet
2- people are sure in a mood around here right now, maybe everywhere
3- The Girl finished her summer job yesterday (which she loved)
4- Mrs. P finishes her job today (which she was okay with) & is now looking
5- "I've explained to you that ___ is not in right now & I cannot answer your question" & yet you keep asking questions.

1) Long morning, feels like it's time to go home.

2) Seeing Deadpool this weekend.

3) Also running some errands and visiting family.

4) I need to wash my car. I hate washing my car.

5) Anyone else think it's too early to be back at school?

1. Done with the heat.
2. Newsies at Sundance Theater tomorrow night.
3. Finally received the insurance check from a June 21 accident (other's fault).
4. Sprinkler repairs (manifold) on the schedule tomorrow.
5. Browning BPS 12 is on it's way.

1) Rain! Thunder!

2) Client is pivoting on a project because the City won't come to the table. Bye Bye Nice Project, Hello Industrial Warehouses!!

3) Hmm, what would be better - staying at work while it's raining, or driving home in the rain to take a nap?

4) Torchy's Tacos for dinner last night!

5) No big plans for the week. Nice.

1-been at beach all week since Debby left
2-there’s a beach wedding happing about 100 yards away right now
3- we lost a day due to weather but had a nice steady breeze all week
4-it’s nice to come home every once in a while
5-there is something very therapeutic watching the sunset over the water at the beach!

1- a friend's son graduated for highway patrol training & begins for real on Monday
2- The Girl is all moved into her new place for grad school
3- I blocked somebody in with the city vehicle since they parked in a restricted space & I moved when I saw them standing there looking around
4- another independent brewery shut down this week about 45 mins away - their flagship IPA was pretty good
5- led zepplin laser light show is @ the planetarium this evening.

1) Another scorcher today, and both days of the weekend are expected to be the same.

2) Some errands this weekend, nothing fancy or planned.

3) Trying to schedule MIL visit this fall. Why is everything to do with her a trial/ordeal?

4) I need to get some dental work done. I hate the lead-up to and the actual shot of numbz-it, but I'm usually happy with the results of the work.

5) Been watching Tour-de-France: Unchained. Love it! We watch the race every year, so it's interesting to see the training, personal lives, and the tension in the race itself. Behind the scenes stuff is crazy!

1) It be hot here too

2) Cirque du soleil tonight

3) Working on the weekend

4) Sudden need to get a bunch of home reno projects done

5) Trip to the UK booked for September

1. been busy every night this week & it doesn't stop tonight or tomorrow night

3. don't think it local MiLB team will make the playoffs this year
4. guess I'll mow the grass on Sunday since I let it go all week
5. the entitlement some people are 'feeling' right now is so discouraging.

1. Cyburbia traffic on Friday is a LOS A.
2. Contemplated a taco place (local - 6 locations) for lunch but the $3.95 drink (pop - again, not soda) cost turned me off.
3. Seafood sandwiches are my favorite of the sandwich genre.
4. Saw a few trees on the mountain side starting to turn color.
5. Why can't fall exist all year?

1) Angry client, but able to prove they missed a step, not us.

2) Another client's permit was approved! School additions are a pain, but when the architects know what they're doing and respond quickly, it stings less.

3) Heading up to Winstar this weekend - got to use up some of Hubby's rewards.

4) My TPMS light came on (again). Slow leak - need a new tire.

5) Going out for dinner tonight!

1-if the curb form doesn't match the plans, why are you going to go ahead & pour it? I'll just make you rip it out.
2-this weekend is a staycation, but it will actually be more like a stay&workcation on the house.
3-time for evaluations, but at least I only have 2 to complete.
4-I wonder when our department's new vehicle will be delivered.
5-mom's 92nd birthday is next week.
