Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1) Had a nice dinner with fam last night.

2) No plans tonight but all day fam stuff tomorrow.

3) I have a headache.

4) Parking analysis - yuck. Hopefully won't get too many of these.

5) Lots of wrecks, sirens, and horn honking this morning.
 
1- the oven decided to kick the bucket Wednesday night in the middle of baking, Mrs. P did all the research yesterday and looks like we're ordering a new one for our anniversary
2- I'm afraid the dishwasher maybe next
3- going to drive a couple hours to see The Girl this weekend
4- had a nice talk with a local architect last night & found out he's a car guy
5- the temporary downtown parking arrangement during construction seems to be working
 
1. Wife away in So Cal with parents to visit her aunt (MiL's last sibling) and uncle who are in poor health.
2. She made it a point to eat at El Torito.
3. Son and potential future DiL have made up, for now.
4. Other son confided to my wife he has a boyfriend. He is reluctant to talk to me and I don't know why.
5. I love my sons without conditions.
 
1. Picking my wife up from the airport later this evening after being away for 6 weeks.
2. Finally covered the last of the patio furniture last night.
3. Our lawn service knocked over our mailbox yesterday so they installed a new one for us.
4. No real plans for this 3-day weekend right now other than groceries and the Lions' game Sunday night.
5. Maybe I'll do one last round of landscaping/leaf clean up, or maybe get some Xmas lights up since it's still relatively warm.
 
1) Plans with sister this weekend. She leaves next week

2) It's raining. Predicting a storm during rush hour. Fun.

3) It's cold in my office. I have on my office sweater, a couple people have a coat on.

4) I'm not feeling the love for creating a property address list.

5) One part of the weekend is seeing The Conclave movie.
 
1. I blocked dozens of political phone numbers the last few weeks. I'm equal opportunity when I do that.
2. Those numbers will be reassigned some time, but my phone will remember them.
3. About that time, a sweepstakes entity will have one of those numbers, and I'll miss my big win call.
4. I'm so happy to be at home today and plan to RJ and walk around town.
5. We're making fondue tomorrow. 🫕
 
1. Considering outlining project to work on prior to retirement.
2. Private firm contacted me last year about jumping ship to work on similar - did not get the RFP.
3. Really considering a last-year buyout.
4. If so, moves date to 34 months from now.
5. Looking forward to taking my boys and FiL on a pheasant hunt tomorrow.

2. Lunch is not for another hour
3. I'm relieved I have no goldfish to take care of. Our German shepherd is quite enough
4. If I could go anywhere right now, I would choose Scotland
5. Time for some Stardew Valley this afternoon
 
1- for a short week, this has been a long one
2- trying to do a little clean up of lingering items today with 2 down so far & another 4 to go
3- received an email with a link to submit, hit the link & sent it, came back with 'not a valid email', they had spelled the name wrong in the link they provided
4- my friend's son scored the winner last night in the 3rd round NCHS soccer playoffs -nice header from a corner
5- got one of those rando calls asking me if I wanted to sell my house, told them price is $1m, he asked how I arrived at that price, I replied 'I like living here' - click.
 
1. "Participated" in a painful training this afternoon. I want my 2 hours back.
2. A 1 A, beach front avenue!
3. My kittens only like to cuddle on their terms. 🫤
4. I could go for some brisket.
5. Ethiopian food for dinner tomorrow. Woot woot!

Right, wrong, or indifferent, I recently introduced my 4 year old granddaughter to "Ice Ice baby". She wasn't impressed and told my wife that she didn't like riding with pops when he plays "Vanilla Aspirin".

1) Hubby says PIZZA for dinner - Yum! :pizza:

2) Looks like a decent weather weekend. I hope to get some of the flower beds trimmed up.

3) A rush-rush project is done! Now on to the other 2 . . .

4) Long day coming up on Monday. I'll need to remember to pack a snack and my comfy shoes.

5) I need to get my nails done.
 
1) Looks like we will be able to get out of our rent early. The rental company found someone who is looking for a place.
2) This seriously was the busiest week that I have had so far. There were also several moments that both reassured me that I made the right decision coming here and made me question if I made the right decision coming here. But it shows that there is room for improvement in the community.
3) I have my own presentation clicker... is that bad?
4) I will be installing a new pool pump this weekend and one of the pipes confuses me. It comes out of the pump, has a T, with one side going into the filter (normal), and one that goes back into the ground (not normal).
5) Mentally I am done for the day.
 
1. Pleasant day today (high of 59) - wish I was home getting the gutters cleaned out.
2. Looking forward to my cajun turkey next week.
3. Need to lay three 12x12 tiles - never tiled before - replacing after shower was replaced with a different footprint - and broken toilet - how does a toilet base break?
4. Thinking of Christmas gifts - I don't need anything as the last many years attest - I buy what I want when I want.
5. Wife said to me last night "I bought another Christmas gift" and my response was "glad I could get you what you want."
 
1. Long day teaching a class.
2. Trying to be good while waiting for sushi takeout.
3. Don't know what to get my 20 yr old nephew for his birthday.
4. I think we might move our Thanksgiving to another day since we have a busy week next week.
5. So tired.
 
1- Nice busy week & hopefully a nice quiet weekend
2- I ordered The Girl a Christmas present. I need to start focusing more on gift ideas
3- Need to make the house payment today since I've forgotten all week
4- I sent a pair of boots back to the manufacturer on Oct 29th - they've not received them yet & tracking says "in transit"
5- Guess I'll write that letter to DOT that won't go anywhere but was told I need to write it.

On #4, are not boots made for walking?

On #3, toilets are made of china, which is very susceptible to breaking. I had one that took an invisible hairline crack and only sign was a sheen on the base. Only when I began a floor replacement did I find it. Minimal damage to structure but no hope on the bowl.

1- Our big Christmas celebration downtown is tonight & it'll be c-o-l-d
2- Why is it that 37 degrees is what the car industry has set to tell us there might be ice. Doesn't water freeze at 32? (This is on our newer cars - Buick, Subaru & Mini.)
3- Looks like we have to do some hand-holding for Public Utilities Dept again
4- Half of the Christmas decorations are down from the attic & the other half will come down Saturday
5- Duck Season-Rabbit Season-Duck Season-Rabbit Season-Rabbit Season-Duck Season
 
1. You know the Lions won again.
2. Ford Field was the loudest its been all year last night.
3. Very sleepy day.
4. Zero productivity.
5. Going to force myself to go to the gym after work to atone for my indulgences last night.

2. Not looking forward to the coming drama
3. Pizza for lunch
4. Gotta finish decorating for Christmas tonight

1. Weather tomorrow will permit last mow to pick up leaves more than cut the grass.
2. Need to light a fire under the youngest to complete the job.
3. Parents here in a week but only for a few days - wife walks for her RN degree.
4. 88-year olds should not drive 750 miles in one day - and one driver is likely not going to drive at all.
5. Too stubborn to break up the drive.

I've been down that road before. Fingers crossed!

1) Office holiday dinner last night.
2) Busy weekend, and then a slow week for me.
3) Need to do some gift shopping.
4) Ugg - need to clean out the front flower beds.
5) Cold here - enough that possible rain later this evening may have sleet pellets.
 
1) I went to seep at 8:00 PM. I say it that way because I slept on the couch because the wife is normally up coughing all night and I wanted what limited rest she did get to be quality.

2) We have yet to really explore our new neighborhood. There isn't any amenity sites or anything cool like that, but just getting out to meet neighbors and get landscaping ideas.

3) We have a door decorating contest at work for Christmas. I am going to wrap my door with traditional looking wrapping paper and tape red and green slips of paper that have corny Christmas jokes on them.

4) Roku TV has classic This Old House available. It makes me wonder why everyone remembers Bob Villa as the host, but of the 3 hosts, he was the shortest serving.

5) We still don't have our tree decorated. Just have not been feeling up to it.
 
1- nobody mentioned yet that today is Friday the 13th - I just did though
2- need to tell the mayor to quit thinking of things for us to do - the proverbial plate is full
3- I decorated The Girl's room with Christmas card pictures from former years - can wait to see her eye roll reaction
4- need to go buy just a couple more things & hopefully be done this weekend with Christmas shopping
5- I beginning to believe that lots of contractors have Alzheimer's because we have to keep repeating ourselves, telling them the same things over and over and over and over
 
1) Rainy Friday drive home tonight.

2) Going to watch Gladiator 2 this weekend!

3) Hope Hubby's golf outing doesn't get canceled due to weather.

4) I am so not ready for the Holidays. I hope to get a few things done this weekend.

5) I'm ready for another dog.
 
1- I had a good thought last night to add to today's 5 things today, but I've forgotten it
2- all the waitresses in the lunch place today were wearing fleece onesie Christmas pajamas
3- new video doorbell system was installed today for our offices
4- only stocking stuff to buy for Mrs. P & a gift for my brother left to do
5- The Girl is running a 50k this weekend.
 
1) I have a goal to get to 25K before the end of the year.
2) It is cold here... (Well for here anyways)
3) The meds they put me on for a double ear and sinus infection have not kicked in yet.
4) We get some new furniture delivered tomorrow.
5) I plan on smoking a pork roast for pulled pork for dinner tomorrow night... but I have no idea what I want to do for dinner tonight. Wife is on call too so that adds in an interesting twist.

1) Easy enough.
5) That will take some time. Start tonight. Maybe not...pork shoulder I know takes several hours.

1. After today, out of the office until December 31.
2. I'll still check email.
2. 54 degrees tomorrow. Seriously think I'll play golf which is not often in December.
3. Christmas shopping is done. Just have to pick up FiL's gift that was delivered to the store.
5. Ducks beware, come Sunday.
 
1- kept thinking yesterday was Monday, repeatedly
2- good fun on New Years, thankful for this group of friends
3- trying to get roadway binder down on the project site because there's rain coming Monday & very cold temps
4- the new doorbell system they installed before Christmas still does not work
5- actions/events in 2025 will make several decisions for me regarding the future.
 
1. Woo hoo! Just got my Gurney's spring 2025 seed catalogue in the mail
2. I'm thinking it's time to get 2 lbs of Early Contender bush beans to get me through the next few years of planting
3. Gotta plot out the next garden. Perfect weekend for doing so. There's currently 3" of snow on the ground and it's 24 degrees
4. I already planted about three sq ft of garlic bulbs back in November.
5. My phone died yesterday. They're supposed to overnight a new phone to me today because I bought the 'insurance'.
 
1. Is today Friday?
2. Going to see Mufasa today.
3. I've seen more movies in theaters these past 2 weeks than I saw all of last year.
4. Should probably shower today.
5. 4 more days of vacation.
 
1. Said he will contact me tomorrow about picking up the item I have for sale on local social media - I give that a 1/10 chance of being true.
2. Mild winter so far. No snow on the ground but the mountains do have some.
3. My only apocalyptic fear is what will happen when the world runs out of oil. Most, if not everything we consume, purchase, use, think about, etc. uses petroleum in some way to procure, extract, ship, make, or use.
4. I opened no presents on Christmas. Kids gave me a few gift cards. Mrs. and I usually buy for ourselves and tell each other thank you.
5. 2nd degree burns on my hand from the Christmas Eve divinity debacle are healing.
 
1) Youngest wants me to teach him to grill hamburgers tonight.
2) I am still in meetings with people who think that since I am the new guy, that I have no idea what I am doing.
3) They are calling for a heck of a storm on Sunday late afternoon. I want to make sure I get all the leaves in my backyard cleaned up otherwise I will be fishing them out of the pool.
4) I should put down some type of annual grass seed in some of the bad parts of my yard and put down proper seed when it starts to warm up.
5) I cannot begin to express how ready we are for the kids to go back to school.
 
1- the office is closed, but nothing falling yet so I'll kill some emails
2- our private staff bathroom in the office has no heat so ya don't want to linger in there right now
3- need to see if the local hardware store has any ice-melt left, I have a little bit left so it's not an issue if they don't
4- I've heard from people in Boone & Asheville that snow was coming down heavy, wet & sticking immediately
5- friends coming over tonight (they live in the 'hood) & we'll have 2 pots of soup ready - broccoli cheddar & veggie (ham optional for both).
 
  1. My fiancé is "advanced bird watching" by hooking up his DSLR to his telescope and using the screen to see the geese in a field by our house
  2. Our ancient college bed frame finally gave out so need to buy new furniture this weekend (yay IKEA)
  3. Really annoyed my emails sent items get auto deleted every 2 months- makes it hard to go back and see what we sent people...
  4. Watched season 2 of Loki and nerded out when they went to the White City/Chicago Worlds Fair
  5. Making homemade kimchi with some leftover Napa cabbage 😅
 
1. Just met the new city manager - came from Iowa where he had been for 3 years.
2. We met in 2017 previously when I interviewed at the city he was managing.
3. Good guy.
4. Chatted about my time in Iowa.
5. I miss Iowa sometimes.

2) Freezing rain--first since even longer.
3) Winter storm- half counties in GA closed
4) Brrrrrr!
5) Enjoyed coverage of Felon-in-chief's sentencing
 
1) Snow is melting, but the slush will refreeze tonight.

2) I'm so bored I'm working.

3) Coffee is the drink of necessity (or anything with caffeine, really).

4) I had a good work call today, but don't have access to the transcript to add to the file. Will have to ask for it - phooey.

5) No plans this weekend - just some chores and errands.
 
1. Still no snow on the ground.
2. Will check on the local elk herd this afternoon.
3. Item bumped from next council which means a four-day weekend!
4. Taking the middle child (child? He's 22) to the airport to see his aunt and cousins Oregon - bought him first class as a Christmas present.
5. He plans on a few more tattoos from his cousin.
 
1. Wife is coming home today from a work trip.
2. I have dinner reservations for 7:30 at a local place.
3. The snow is melting ahead of the deep freeze.
4. It's Divisional Round eve.
5. Off on Monday.
 
1) Couple of errands tomorrow, then the fun task of taking dad to buy a new laptop.

2) Off Monday, but have an eye dr appointment.

3) Supposed to get cold tomorrow. We might have snow flurries Monday evening.

4) My sister has a foster cat. It might turn into a foster-failure cat. Her cat died about 3 months ago, so she's ready for this opportunity.

5) My MIL is coming to visit next month . . .
 
1. New corporate security upgrades mean no more cyburbia at work.
2. New role is keeping me too busy for posting most days anyhow.
3. Enjoying winter on the coast so far.
4. Trip booked back "home" for May.
5. Washing machine died on our tenants; knew I should have replaced it before leaving.
