NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING What's For Lunch Thread

I have a mortadella sandwich. It remindsbme of a movie called Lady Liberty. Sophia Loren plays an Italian immigrant who brings a mortadella to the USA as a gift to her new husband. She can't bring it into the country and refuses to turn it over to authorities.

See, I can see you doing that. Haha!! "I'm not giving you this mortadella sandwich." Calm, but unrepentant.

I will personally be having 7-11 pizza today. And a V-8. Apparently, I want people to question my judgement and keep their distance today. :)

Today's eclectic mix was heading home and heating up a couple chimichangas and some shrimp fried rice. Nothing like mixing nationalities with a meal. :)

Our annual fall festival began today and some 400,000 folks will visit over the next four days. One of the social clubs in town is noted for their excellent chicken and dumplings, plenty of chicken in a thick stew with dumplings much like grandmother used to make (at least according to those that had grandmothers make dumplings, which mine did not). In recent years the club has farmed out the preparation to an otherwise excellent local restaurant. Surprisingly - and terribly disappointingly - the chicken and dumplings are now runny, probably from frozen, rubbish. I discarded mine less than half-finished.

I know things change. I bet there's probably people that like the current version just fine. For me, I'm left only with a savory memory and a growling, hungry stomach. :(

Pre-made beef burrito from our downtown grocery store.

Did my economic development duty - support the local business

It's October and the restaurants in our downtown are having a contest to see who has the best burger. The DDA put together the contest last year and I checked out about 6 of the 20+ restaurants participating. This year I'm aiming for 10 of the burgers. I had actually forgotten about the contest until I saw some posters around town last week. I'm glad they're doing it again.

So far I've tried 3 of the burgers in the contest. All have been good, but today's was the best. Today was also the first burger I've tried that was actually beef. The first was a Greek chicken kofta burger and then yesterday I had a lobster thermidor burger with a good size lobster tail on top of a shrimp burger. Both of those were good and definitely creative but today was an actual burger so I gave that extra points in the contest (you rate based on appearance/presentation, creativity, and taste).

I also liked that the bartender and the manager at the place I went today were REALLY into the contest. The bartender at the place I went to yesterday had no clue what I was talking about... even though there was a huge poster advertising the contest near the door and the napkin she placed under my beer had a promo on it about the contest with a QR code to scan and rate the burger.

^ Looks terrific! I love me some Doc Brown's too. I really like the "Cell-Ray" flavor. I rarely see it at the stores that stock Doc. Brown's near me so I have to go into one of the "Jewish Style" delis to get it.

I went for burger #4 today. It was a burger made from in-house ground up brisket with a fried egg on it. Very tasty but sort of ho-hum in terms of creativity as far as the contest is concerned. Lunch was at a new breakfast/brunch spot right on the main east/west route through our downtown. The place has only been open for a month or two and I hadn't been in there yet. I wanted to dock them points in the contest for not having a liquor license - I couldn't get a beer! Seems odd to shell out for that prime piece of real estate and not pony up for a liquor license too, but we've had a few new restaurants open this year and the city is notoriously stingy with the liquor licenses each year so maybe that's coming for next year?

If you were here at the Westside Nut Club Fall Festival, you could have had this -

Manny's had the Cell-Ray flavor, but I was more interested in the root beer.

I had a salad with grilled chicken I made at home. I work in a food desert.

I was digging around in the back of the pantry looking for another roll of parchment paper and found a package of "spicy noodle soup" ramen from a Korean grocery store near here. I bought a case of them back at the start of the summer and thought I had ate them all up a long time ago so I was happy to find it. I had that for lunch today with an egg stirred into it.

Leftover stew from last night, which was pretty damned good if I do say so myself. Prepped in the Costco dutch oven on the stove top and then tossed into the actual oven. Mmmmmmmm, straight outta the tupperware, just the way I like it. I will be reading another chapter of "A Psalm for the Wild Built" while I eat. I also, highly recommend.

Today's lunch is a hot pocket. Before you judge, be advised that this is a pepperoni pizza hot pocket, with the crispy-garlic-butter crust.

So....eat your hearts out.

I will be dining with the illustrious Chef Boyardee this afternoon, up on the deck, weather-be-damned because I like my mini-ravioli al fresco. I will also be washing it down with a costco granola bar. I'd be lying if I told you I was not looking forward to lunch. I dig.

A family friend dropped us off some fresh challah bread rolls they got from a local bakery yesterday. They look delicious and I'm really looking forward to having one for a sandwich at lunch today!

HBB in town makes salads. Mrs. STTG orders periodically and pickup is on the street in front of the house. I had to pick ours up today since she was out but on her way back. There were seven cars waiting for pickup. Makes a good salad.

Met Mrs. P @ a local meat/2 veg diner. They've been around for a long time.
I had chicken pie with gravy & she had tomato soup with pimento cheese sandwich.

Took an employee out for her going away lunch. She picked a breakfast/lunch place.

I had very tasty Biscuits and Gravy (made with spicy sausage!) and eggs.

Boy-Lunch today: sleeve of Ritz crackers, peanut butter to spread on 'em, and two string cheeses. I'm actually quite enjoying it.

Our youngest loves ramen and I enjoy it as well so Santa brought us a big basket of different packs of ramen from one of the Asian supermarkets in the area so I had one of those today. This particular one was a flavorless dud. Usually I'll add my own extras into the ramen (veggies, some leftover meat if we have something, an egg or two) but didn't bother doing so today because I didn't feel like taking the extra 4 minutes but I regretted that after the fact.

I consoled myself with a couple chocolate truffles.

Leftover crockpot chicken stew.

Used Cajun seasoning mix, and I actually think it came out right! Sometimes I don't put in enough spice, thinking it'll be too hot for my spouse. But this time, I got it right!

I'm guessing leftover/reheated Sams Club pizza will be what I have to look forward to for lunch

I'm not liking my options either. Let's fly to Cincinnati and meet up for some chili instead. I've been wanting to try chili in Cincinnati ever since that one thread I can't remember now....

Just go cook a bunch of noodles and dump some Hormel chili on it. I'm sure it's good.

Actually, Cinci chili sounds like just the thing. In fact, I kinda wish you hadn't said that because now I'm feeling a craving coming on. One that cannot be easily sated.

And yes, I hear your cries for me to link to the original thread:

Make it at home. You probably have everything you need.

I left my lunch on the kitchen counter. Half of a leftover Chipotle burrito. My youngest son had already left for school when I asked if he could put it in the fridge.

Not sure what I will do now... It's Council day, maybe i'll tough it out and have a large mid-afternoon lunch/dinner combo.

Two small apples, carrots stick, couple cucumber spears, a chocolate pudding cup, can of mtn dew and a small pile of beef jerky.

Pretty good actually.

I went to find my Cinci chili recipe and couldn't find it in the mess that is our 'cooking drawer' (which has become the 'cooking pile' what with all the recipes printed off from online sources). I'll have to hunt down a new recipe.
