NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING What's For Lunch Thread

I have a mortadella sandwich. It remindsbme of a movie called Lady Liberty. Sophia Loren plays an Italian immigrant who brings a mortadella to the USA as a gift to her new husband. She can't bring it into the country and refuses to turn it over to authorities.

See, I can see you doing that. Haha!! "I'm not giving you this mortadella sandwich." Calm, but unrepentant.

I will personally be having 7-11 pizza today. And a V-8. Apparently, I want people to question my judgement and keep their distance today. :)

Today's eclectic mix was heading home and heating up a couple chimichangas and some shrimp fried rice. Nothing like mixing nationalities with a meal. :)

Our annual fall festival began today and some 400,000 folks will visit over the next four days. One of the social clubs in town is noted for their excellent chicken and dumplings, plenty of chicken in a thick stew with dumplings much like grandmother used to make (at least according to those that had grandmothers make dumplings, which mine did not). In recent years the club has farmed out the preparation to an otherwise excellent local restaurant. Surprisingly - and terribly disappointingly - the chicken and dumplings are now runny, probably from frozen, rubbish. I discarded mine less than half-finished.

I know things change. I bet there's probably people that like the current version just fine. For me, I'm left only with a savory memory and a growling, hungry stomach. :(

Pre-made beef burrito from our downtown grocery store.

Did my economic development duty - support the local business

It's October and the restaurants in our downtown are having a contest to see who has the best burger. The DDA put together the contest last year and I checked out about 6 of the 20+ restaurants participating. This year I'm aiming for 10 of the burgers. I had actually forgotten about the contest until I saw some posters around town last week. I'm glad they're doing it again.

So far I've tried 3 of the burgers in the contest. All have been good, but today's was the best. Today was also the first burger I've tried that was actually beef. The first was a Greek chicken kofta burger and then yesterday I had a lobster thermidor burger with a good size lobster tail on top of a shrimp burger. Both of those were good and definitely creative but today was an actual burger so I gave that extra points in the contest (you rate based on appearance/presentation, creativity, and taste).

I also liked that the bartender and the manager at the place I went today were REALLY into the contest. The bartender at the place I went to yesterday had no clue what I was talking about... even though there was a huge poster advertising the contest near the door and the napkin she placed under my beer had a promo on it about the contest with a QR code to scan and rate the burger.

After wading through all the riots in Chicago I had lunch at Manny’s deli at Roosevelt and Jefferson today.
