I pray everyone stays safe during the storm. I feel like some names just don't convey a dangerous situation. It's hard to take a storm named Debbie as serious as it should. It should at least be Deborah.

This just in from our fire chief. Having a hard time wrapping my mind around 20-30". It's really coming down now. Flooding already started and we've got 2 days + left!

65 is a nice summer morning temp.

It's been pretty perfect here lately too - temps in the low 60s in the morning and high 70s/low 80s in the afternoon and the humidity seems to have gone away. Looking at the long range forecast, it appears it will be that way for a while. This summer hasn't been too bad weather-wise here in SE Michigan. While there's still plenty of time to get a stretch of 90º+ days, we're late enough in the summer that I'm not too worried about the humidity returning in full force. No more of those stretch of days like we had a few weeks where my walls were literally sweating.

We've had nice mornings. Its been around 65-72, but it warms up quick. I had an unopened coke explode in my car yesterday. I usually park in the shade and go somewhere during lunch which lets all of the hot air out. I was late so I didn't get a good spot and then worked through lunch to make up time.

We got home from Toronto yesterday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. It was 98º on my thermometer when I pulled into our driveway.

About an 90 minutes later, the temp had dropped a little bit and it was starting to get a little dark but the sun was still shining. While I was taking dinner out of the oven I got a text from a buddy a couple miles NW of me complaining that "the storm" had knocked his power out. I was about to respond to him with something snarky like, "Blue skies and sunshine here! What are you talking about?" and in the <1 minute it took me to set down the food and walk across the kitchen to my phone the wind suddenly whipped up and the sky got black and our power started flickering. I could hear all the sirens from the golf courses by us and over the next 10 minutes, our power shut off (not just flickered, but shut off) a handful of times. It then came back on... for about 15 minutes. It's now been off completely since around 5:45 p.m. yesterday.

When I went to bed last night, the utility had an estimate for our power restoration by 7:00 p.m. today. When I checked it this morning it had been updated to by end of day Thursday (tomorrow). :r:

It only rained for about 20 minutes and the wind died down pretty quick but the thunder and lighting lasted all night long. Looking at reports from the local electric company and our county emergency preparedness folks, the storm wasn't widespread but there were pockets around the metro area with some really severe winds. Around 5:00 a.m. I went to the gym to work out but also to get out of our sweltering house, to be able to take a shower with some lights, and to charge our phones while I was on the treadmill. Afterwards I drove to Starbucks to bring us home some food and beverages and all up and down the main road from downtown into our neighborhood there were a bunch of huge trees down.

This was pretty much our experience and we're east of you. It got super windy, then some rain and thunder and lighting. Some of our neighbors don't have power but we do. Ours flickered once but that was it. I'm sure the fact that the electrical grid was being taxed due to the heat didn't help.

I've seen some video of other parts of the metro area that experienced some pretty serious straight line winds.

Some days you ride a bike. Some days it rains. I did a group ride with some friends last night. This happened about a quarter mile from the meetup site. I spent about 15 minutes on a covered loading dock with Homeless Harold waiting for the downburst to move through.

We moved here at the end of July and it was a full month with no rain. Then we had 2 minor downpours.

But starting tomorrow morning into Friday morning they say we will get 4 to 6 inches thanks to Francine.

It's about 80º and sunny and crisp. Gorgeous weather out right now. It's making it really hard to concentrate on actual work and being inside.

We have a downtown festival on Saturday. Hope is speeds up and gets past us.

Expecting 40-50 mph winds & 4"-8" rain in our location on Thursday & Friday.

Y'all who are in the path stay safe!

We were nervous about it potentially causing problems with the house that we are trying to sell, but it now looks like it will pay us a visit instead. Weather people are saying we might get 5+ inches of rain over a 3 to 4 day time span.

We got a little over 4 inches in an hour yesterday. The latest from Helene looks like its shifting towards Bubba and away from us. They're still showing us as getting a lot of rain and some wind, but probably not the main brunt. Still, school is dismissing early today and on remote learning tomorrow.

I'm in the office but we are closed due to so much debris on the roads and a lot of places without power, including most signalized intersections. A few houses with trees in/on them but all in all we survived ok. The wild thing is we were hundreds of miles away from the actual center. As I said in another thread, poor Cedar Key. I've seen posts that it will be years if at all that it returns to how it was. Truly heartbreaking.

Has he checked in with you this morning? The path of the hurricane tracked east, so Athens got it worse than Atlanta.
I haven't heard from him since last night, but he is actually in Atlanta right now. His wife told me a few hours ago that flooding in at least their part of Athens was minimal and no flooding for their house. I guess the eye of the Hurricane went right over Athens (where the winds are much calmer) so they didn't get the brunt of the impact.

Western NC is in bad shape. Catastrophic things are happening. Part of I40 collapsed into a river and Lake Lure dam will most likely fail.

Still haven't turned the heat on in the house up here in Metro Detroit. It's been chilly in the house the last few days, but I've been running a space heater a little bit when I'm home to take the edge off. It helps that my house is brick.

With my wife overseas for work and the youngest off at college, it feels like such a waste to heat our 2-story colonial for just me and my oldest daughter, especially when neither of us are at the house very much other than at night.

At this point it's become a challenge to see how long I can go without turning the heat on. The temps for the next week look promising. I'm going to try my hardest to hold out until November 1, but my 21-year old daughter may murder me in my sleep if I get too crazy about this

I try to hold out to Nov. 1, but I'll be working out of town a good bit for the next few months. I'll be keeping an empty house warm enough to keep the pipes from freezing.

I don't have space heaters. I keep a heated throw blanket on my lap when I work at home.
