November 3: MY GOD IT'S ONLY 36 DEGREES WHERE IS MY BIG COAT, STOCKING CAP, AND GLOVES?

February 3: It's -6 and I'll only be out a few minutes; I'll skip the coat.
I wore a sweatshirt walking the dogs this evening. It was about 50 degrees but after the last several days when it was in the mid 20s, 50 felt almost tropical. The ice storm is behind us now. The worst day for walking was yesterday; after several freeze and thaw cycles, trying to navigate on foot was treacherous. Walking the dogs was about 4 blocks and that was it, and they didn't seem too disappointed either.

Officially it only got up to the low 50s today but when we were out and about it was sunny and the car thermometer read 64. Most of the ice has melted (except for patches in the shade) and roads are generally clear now.

Some forecasts say we won't hit freezing again tonight, but some say it will get down to 32 with a chance of "freezing fog" :cold: overnight.

Was about four degrees this afternoon when I looked at the temperature, luckily no real wind. Supposed to go above freezing tomorrow...

-6 with no wind. Folks, the wind chill is a real thing; makes a huge difference.

Coldest temp I've ever experienced was -20°F. I was working in a hot kitchen and took the trash out to the dumpster several times in just a t-shirt, jeans and boots. It felt refreshing. And yes there was no wind. I walked home a mile at the end of the night (with my winter coat and hat). It wasn't bad.

Wind chill is make it or break it. I would rather be outdoors when it's -25 with no wind than with a warmer temp with a relatively warmer temperature with wind chill.

I took my daughter to the library on Sunday afternoon. It was about 40º and sunny and she was commenting on how it felt like May or June. I reminded her that when we had a few days with temps like this in early October she was complaining that I wouldn't pick her up from the bus stop and made her walk a couple blocks in the "freezing cold."

Mid 50s tomorrow!

^ It was in the upper 40s and sunny when I went to lunch yesterday. I thought, "Sweet! I'll go for a pleasant run outside after work!"

All afternoon I watch the temperature drop, the sun disappear, and the wind pick up. By the time I was able to get outside the temperature had dropped down to about 33º and felt a lot colder with the strong wind we had. I still made it outside for a few miles but it wasn't nearly as pleasant as I was anticipating earlier in the day. I'm looking forward to trying again tomorrow with even warmer temps.

It was in the 20s this weekend. Today it's 58F. We haven't even had a proper snow this winter.

It's raining pretty steady but it's already 38 out. Supposed to get up to 53 today!

It was warmer than that at sunrise here in the ATL today.

We did get our warmish weather yesterday but only about an hour of sunshine. It's back down into the 30s today and the sky keeps giving us little bursts of freezing rain and sleet. Blah.

They said the S word during the morning forecast for Saturday night. Nothing but a trace is predicted, but I'm sure the bread & milk will be hit hard at the grocery store.

I put down some pre-emergent weed granules today during lunch. I need to start cleaning out the planting beds before the perennials start growing in earnest. I left the annuals that died in the first hard frost and fallen leaves accumulated nicely around each plant in the beds providing leaf cover for the ground dwelling pollinators.

I started putting together the winter sowing jugs and bottles. It's my big experiment this year, but many people all over seem to have good results for the most part. So far I have sown:

Agastache (3 varieties)
Lavender (2 varieties)
Milkweed (2 varieties)
Rudbeckia (2 varieties)
Monarda
Echinacea (2 varieties)
Dwarf sunflower
Strawflower
Swiss Chard
Golden Beet
Broccoli Rabe
Chinese Broccoli
Purple Cauliflower
Bush Beans (2 varieties)
Carrot (2 varieties)
Cabbage
Celery
Honeynut Squash
Dumpling Squash
MN Midget Melon
Arugula
Spinach (2 varieties)
Komatsuna
Mizuna
Bok Choy
Tomatoes (2 varieties-this is an experiment, prepared to sow normally)

Waiting for the kiddo to finish off some more milk to get the lettuce and cilantro put out.

Winter storm watch in effect, but it looks like it's going north of us.

Expecting a foot of snow tonight (insert Buffalo Cyburbian's sarcastic laugh) so the commute will be interesting. May ask to participate on tonight's meeting online so I can be home (32 miles) before the storm.

Weatherman said last night we are roughly three weeks ahead of schedule for tree and grass pollens arriving. My bouts of sneezing fits and dull sinus headache can confirm the weatherman's observations.

Looks like yesterday's close call and narrow avoidance of winter weather is being repaid today. They already cancelled school for most districts in the area last night.

Most of the schools on this side of the state were closed last night for today I don't think we've gotten a single drop of anything out of the sky yet.

81 degrees right now with a good breeze. Walked downtown @ lunch & felt a drop or 2 of sweat on my brow.

The last few days they've been warning about snowpocolypse and we got maybe 10 cm of snow last night. I feel ripped off.

I feel like we've had 8 inches of pollen! There are clouds of it just blowing through. I was driving home yesterday and thought it was raining up ahead. Nope. Just pollen. :(

Ice storm yesterday in far Northwest Chicagoland, power out for about 24 hours, not sure I've ever really lost power for any extended period of time before. At least the roads were passable and we weren't stuck at home. Some people in the Buffalo blizzard back in December weren't as lucky, and it was a lot colder.

ha. ha.

Seriously, though, isn't remarkable how much better weather forecasting has gotten since the 1970s? I mean there are frequently 'refinements' to long term forecasts as the days grow nearer, but on the whole I'm amazed at how well they do at mid-range forecasts given the complexity of the phenomenon.

Our son missed his first day of work ever (13 years) due to snow today. Hit the snow line at only 800 feet in the Santa Cruz foothills.

It was 85 yesterday and 75 today. Later tonight the front starts coming through and tomorrow's high (54) will be at midnight and it is all down hill tomorrow. The low of 43 will be around 8am and it will be in the mid 40s for the remainder of the day.

This winter in NJ has pretty much been a non-event. A couple of dustings of snow that quickly melted and mostly temps in the 40s and 50s with overnight lows in the 30s. The red maple is already blooming and plants that normally go dormant in winter are still green. Tonight there's a 1/2 inch rain predicted, it's windy, and there's a coastal flooding warning until noon tomorrow..

We got 6-7" snow last Friday. City Hall actually closed an hour early because roads were getting worse near the end of the work day. As of this morning 99% of the snow we got has already melted. Perhaps the old adage will hold true...March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.

Early last week we were forecast to get up to 8 inches Friday, didn't get a flake... Guess it all went to Maister's neck of the woods.
