NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

There's snow flurries out again. I think this is the most times in my life I can remember having snow flurries without real accumulation. I mean we've had flurries nearly every day since around Thanksgiving time.

I know we're on the periphery of much bigger meteorological happenings, but I have to say it is truly bizarre waking up to temperatures in the upper 50's IN THE MIDDLE OF FREAKIN DECEMBER!

Temp is 30 degrees
Wind Chill is 19

wind from the north - my apartment has no north facing exposure.

On January 1st, it was mostly cloudy, humid, and 79 degrees.

Yesterday it was a few degrees cooler and rained like crazy for a bit around 6PM.

This morning I wake up to a Thunderstorm with heavy rain, and a temp in the low 60s at 5:00 AM. When we got ready to leave for work at 7:30, it was in the low 40s with even heavier rain. The weather people are calling for snow this afternoon.

40+ MPH winds from the NW started last night. Wind chills headed t0 -30. Good God.
That's what just started here this morning and will run through today at least, if not through tomorrow as well.

I'm about 300 miles east of you.

I reluctantly broke out the parka today. I don't like wearing it because the fleece lining is always covered with cat hair.

I had to go make a run to the credit union and bank this morning around 9:30 a.m. It was eerily dark outside as if it were like 7;00 p.m.

We're supposed to get a bunch of wind later today but nothing yet. I don't think it's supposed to be as bad here as it will be further west. Hopefully Maister has a few beers stocked at home to help get him through!

"THEY" are saying we could get up to 12" of snow on Sunday.

Of course in reality, we could get ice, a wintry mix, and/or between 3" to 18" of snow.

Stay tuned...film @ 11:00.

It looks like we're going to be oddly spared from the oncoming winter weather front.

We will not. They are saying we will get a few snowflakes, then freezing rain, then significant rain... all on Sunday. People are out getting generators, the bread shelves are empty and the liquor store is packed.

Still not sure why people need so much bread...

I got a bag of ice-melt during lunch errands. I told my coworker about it and he ran to get some & it was already gone.

We should get more of the fluffy stuff here.

In the pictures on my phone, I found that on Jan 9 2017, we had an 8" snow here.

It's pivoting around me. The first part is going to slide by just to our west, then merge with the gulf system and pass just to the south.

I'm not a happy camper hearing the likes of southerners getting snow.:grimace:

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo parade on Saturday has been canceled due to temps in the 30s and 30 mph winds with 50 mph gusts expected. Those of us who've lived in Fort Worth for a while know that REAL WINTER occurs during the Stock Show. It's often the lousiest weather of the year.

I brought in my patio furniture and gas grill (gas is in the garage).

Everyone I know in Buffalo got 20+" today. Usually it's lake effect bands so not the whole area. Today seems to be much broader coverage.

The heavy snow yesterday was general, so everybody got around a foot or more. Buffalo and north seemed to get more than further south. Of course, the winds from the northwest picked up in the afternoon, so the areas to the south of the city picked up lake effect snow overnight. Fortunately, it was relatively modest for lake effect, at least in Jamestown. We've got about 18 inches here between yesterday and today.

Only 6.5" inches so far in Chicago this winter, and forecast makes it seem like that isn't going to change anytime soon, though winter certainly isn't over.

Ok, over the weekend we got some ice. The other side of the county got it worse, to a point where a semitruck lost control and went over a guardrail.

And because it was so much fun, next weekend the weather people are saying we might as much as an foot of snow. Do you know how people down here handle a foot of snow? Much different than Yoopers.

My advice for you is to stay off the roads. Not because I think you can't handle it (because I think you could very well). It's because the vast majority of people you live around do not know how to handle it and probably just slide into you.

You don't need to tell me twice. I don't want anyone hitting my truck.

Well, southern ice is much different than northern snow. Generally areas that don't typically get a lot of cold weather are ill-prepared for it when it comes. They simply don't have a big enough fleet of trucks properly equipped, nor the supplies on hand, to put down salt. Here they typically put down sand because if they bought salt it might not be used for 5 years. As a result, even drivers skilled in winter conditions can have major problems in the south.

I agree, they sand it or wait a couple of days for the temps to stay above freezing. At that point, nature takes it course. It's more ice than snow. FWIW, there is no safe way to drive on ice unless you have chains or studded tires.

It's 36 this morning (27 with wind chill) but thats relatively warm for mid January.

It's currently 39 here on this side of the state with a forecasted high of 42 today. Temps are supposed to get much more winter like this evening though.

I decided to take a break and walk up to Starbucks since the weather was so nice.

It felt a lot chillier out than the stated temps. Fingerless gloves and carrying an iced coffee were not the best of combinations!

It's 44 and cloudy here. The ground is still snow covered and we expect below 0 Temps in the next few days.

We got lucky: rain stopped, roads dried, then the temp fell. No icy roads today! Yay!

52F when I rolled downstairs to get my coffee going at 7:20 AM EST...and that's the high for today. Rain will roll through, and the temps will drop to the upper 30s this afternoon. The high yesterday afternoon was in the low 60s. If you don't like the weather in the ATL, just give it 24 hours...

I thought we were gonna get some snow accumulation yesterday. It looked like it was snowing pretty hard around 4-5pm and even a little when I went to bed. This morning there was maybe an inch, if that.
