NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

NC Gerrymandering has isolated the bluest parts of Asheville, split them in half and lumped them in with red Buncombe County.
Gerrymandering matters for congressional seats, but most states go on popular vote for President.

And now the New York Times finally attaches that narrative to republician presidential candidate Donald J Trump:

Chef’s kiss are the embedded videos.
As if there was any doubt?

One thing that gets me is how both sides are saying that if the other wins, the Republic is dead. However the "Republic" as created by the founders has been dead for a while. The recent supreme court case that said that Presidents can't be held liable for their actions while in office is just the cherry on top.

Hey WSU - I guess tRump is a real fan of Detroit.

I imagine he had a mostly friendly audience there at the DEC but my god, that seemed like a horribly stupid thing to say to a room with a lot of people who have a lot of pride in the city and region.

In the end, I'm sure it will make roughly 0.00% difference in the outcome of the race.

I voted! I even voted yes on my city's general plan because that has to go to voters every 10 years.

...read that his campaign is demanding a military convoy to deliver him to rallies, because they fear drone attacks or missile strikes to assassinate him.
They would mine plenty of propaganda out of that.

Wife and I were talking about the elections this weekend. The one absolute when it comes to the federal election is that neither of us will vote for Trump. The only remaining question is will we vote for Harris. The other reality is that this State is expected to remain deep red so it does not really matter if we vote for Harris, a 3rd party, or write in Cookie Monster. (Which if on the ballot would get my vote).

I think that if Trump was a decent human that respected the institution of the Presidency and the Constitution, then I might feel differently. However Trump is Trump.

I echo your thoughts. I live in a deep red state and a blue candidate at the presidential level does not have a chance. Last time the state went blue was the election of 1964 with LBJ.

Early voting starts here tomorrow. I'll go next week sometime. I rarely vote on election day.
Why when early vote or mail-in ballots are an option. Unless your work gives you paid time off to go stand in line (honestly, it was a two hour wait) and vote somewhat old-school but no with hanging chads.

So, tRump is right, and all the economists are wrong

Experts, many, many fine experts out there are saying many great things about that interview like it was "the greatest live interview any political leader or politician has done on the economy in our lifetimes."

:what:

Reality is no president has the power to fix the economy. Regardless of what Trump's brain thinks of his concept of plan or Kamala thinking she can bring down the price of groceries and this magically transform the economy, which is driven by world markets and far out of reach of any presidential power. I despise both picks for president - Hobson's choice.

When the big O won in 08, with my vote and others, I said the office itself had been so relegated in terms of power that the big powers had given it to a Negro.
After that they were willing even to hand it to a woman, but then a clown showed up, and he stole the show.

Anybody early voting ?

I am on the permanent absentee voter list and turned in my ballot the day after I received it (there is a dropbox for our community about a block from our house).

Early voting starts here next week. My wife has done the early voting option since it's been offered. Our library is an early voting location and we're there at least two or three times a week so that's pretty convenient.

This is perfect -

The vice president was talking about her opponent Donald Trump’s role in abortion bans across the country when the heckling started, but Harris stopped it as soon as it started.

“Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally,” she said. “I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street.”

Mail-in ballots arrived and will be sent off today. I don't think presidential candidate "Lucifer ‘Justin Case’ Everylove" on Utah's ballot has a chance. I applaud his delusion, however.

Trump had an eventful weekend - "worked" at a closed McDonalds for a photo-op, talked about Arnold Palmer's schlong and also noted that Harvey Wienstein got schlonged, and ended it with a super realistic photo of himself playing for the Steelers.

In his mind he swings right along with Ahnold...

Still got pretty small hands relative to those biceps. (Arnold Palmer didn't have small hands ... just saying.)

Weird photo though as one teammate has the black over old gold but the other has black over black kit.

I think voter participation is going to be through the floor this year. Usually we're in the 60% of registered voters. I think this year we'll be below 55%, maybe even 50%. Presidential race doesn't matter here. No major house or senate seats up. There's not much on statewide elections or amendments. I think apathy and disenfranchisement are going to carry the day.

I dunno, early voting is setting records across the country. Keep in mind SCOTUS and the GOP have pissed off women across the country by trying to take their rights away. I'm not hearing from any women of voting age indicating that they're indifferent about this election.

Early voting started today.

I'll vote this week. I just wish that somehow, somewhere, a switch would flip and I'd stop getting political emails and texts.

I was thinking about voting today. But the parking lot at the church for early voting appeared to be completely full and people parked on the grass and the side of the road. I think I am going to give it a few days.

My fair city has
5 early voting locations - all in libraries Monday through Friday
3 early voting locations on Saturday Oct 26 & Nov 2
1 early voting location on Monday Nov 4

22 Vote Center locations on Election Day
Previously, a voter was required to vote at the polling place within the precinct they resided.
Now, a voter can choose to vote at any Vote Center that is convenient for them.

so there is no excuse for not getting out to vote in my fair city
