Which one of them owns a Crazy Mike's Discount Furniture or some other local bad commercial business.

The stories might be fake,
^^^I'm not really sure any of them have ever driven a motorcycle either.
I can see them driving something like this. Says edgy, but doesn't require any balance.

I saw one of these at our hotel in Savannah last week, but it had a removable top to it to. The couple driving it looked to be in their 70's.
A dealership in town sells them. Most of the people I tend to see in them are older men. Occasionally, they are solo, they sometimes have an older woman with them, but more often they have a woman who is a bit younger. At least locally, they tend to be owned by men approaching retirement who are "going through some stuff" and fighting time.

My experience too. Though, at my last job, one of the late 20s/early 30s single police officers had one...but he was also unironically sporting the below mustache equivalent, so...

Just for fun see pasted my last letter re voting to local weekly cir. 25k.

Dear editor,

Republicans have learned that voter roll growth and high voter turnout always push their candidates lower down the rungs of power’s ladder.

So they have shepherded in a new flock of voting restrictions in several states since the autumn of 2020.To diminish voter rolls they discourage new registrations in a number of ways.To counter turnout they make it harder for a voter to get to polls and harder for them to sign in.Some eliminate ballot drop boxes.

Others obstruct access to polling stations. Some prevent the disabled, for example, from using couriers to deliver their absentee ballots.Voting restrictions are nothing new. They have come and gone before. They drag a long, dark and shaggy bag of regrettable history, but they are not permanent.

They are as subject to change as the weather. The agents of that kind of change are the voters themselves, the more of them the better. We can take heart in the fact that 67% of eligible voters cast votes in 2020,. That was the highest turnout since the year 1900, a year when only men, and only certain ones at that, could vote.

You wrote his with the very cynical understanding that you're comparing the 2022 voter regs in this state to the 2020 COVID-era temporary regs (to deal with pandemic circumstances) instead of the 2018 regs, and that it's actually easier to vote in 2022 here than it was in 2018, yes?

Thanks for the reply, but don't follow your reasoning.

New restrictions are based on 2020's Big Lie about something allegedly stolen.

BTW I never heard of "cynical understanding" before. My limited education tells me sarcasm can be used as expression, and thereby can be hyperbolic, but cynicism connotes bitterness. Somehow bitterness can't be contained inside the pale of "understanding".

My letters to papers are, to misquote the little Lebowski, "just my opinion, man".

Bonus trivia question is how many times the dude says "man".

Go dogs. Most of my family is UGA certified.

Had lunch meeting and saw a friend who works in another municipality. Apparently one of the candidates for sheriff had a ton of signs put out illegally (City owned property). They picked them up and called his campaign manager to let him know that they could stop by city hall to get them. When the campaign manager showed up he was flipping out, saying how dare the city pull the signs for the next sheriff. Sounds like it was enough of a fuss that an City officer heard the commotion and came up to see what was going on. After listening for a while he finally chimed in and said... Do you think it would be a good thing of people found out that the guy who wants to be the top cop in the county demanded that he be allowed to keep his signs there illegally? The campaign manager apparently grabbed the signs and left quickly at that point.

I had a commissioner that got busted for the distance to the voting location thing. He was told to park his junk truck with spray painted plywood signs across the street to be out of the buffer. He actually made the clerk measure the distance with a wheel. So now there is a yellow line painted in the county office parking lot showing that yes, even that corner space is in the zone. Yes, he was elected.

Most of the schools and libraries and other usually polling places here have permanent yellow lines around them marking the edge of the buffer. Our polling place is the lobby of a private school a couple blocks away and they do a pretty good job at removing all signs from their property, even those that are well outside the buffer but there will inevitably be about 300 signs that sprout up like mushrooms in the pre-dawn hours of election day. In the past, I think they've used student volunteers to go remove all signs from their property, they just cannot seem to keep up with it on election day itself.

Our township and the neighboring city are very strict about removing signs from the public right-of-way and other public spaces while some other cities here are like a free for all.

I learned that there is an Office of Refugee Resettlement within the federal Department of Health and Human Services. Apparently they flew a group of minors who were 'undocumented' to a small town in New York and the republican's are flipping out about it.

Once again, I think it is wrong to make these people pawns in a pollical chess match, but I also think the hypocrisy of both sides is ridiculous.

A past city I worked for was brutal on signs in the ROW. Loved it. My current city not so much. I hate having my view blocked at intersections because Debbie wants to run for some office using a picture of her from 30 years ago.

I haven't read the story, but my gut reaction is that you can't have your cake and eat it too. It's okay if you send people to Martha's Vineyard, but if the government does it then it's wrong?

Why I would like somebody else in 2024 for the Dems is simply that I'm tired of the old farts running the show: Time to step aside and let the younger crowd -- the folks that are going to have to deal with the worst effects of climate change -- to step up and take the reins.

I saw this the other day on Twitter and it rings true. Gen X could very well be left out AGAIN.

As a late Xer, I could probably talk about not having had the chance earlier due to the over-stay of too many boomers and getting hammered within the first 1/3 of our careers by the Great Recession.

But I won't do that.

What are your thoughts on this situation with Herschel Walker? I don't have a vote in the situation, however I could see where it it is a setup and where he could be true.

He is one of the worst candidates to ever run for that high of office. His inability to articulate policy or a general understanding of how government works would be enough, but he clearly has not been a very good human being to his kids and ex-wife. His son is also a VERY conservative kid on social media, and has been pretty clear about how terrible of a father Walker was, and how he knows his dad slept around, etc.

It is a lot of drama, but fundamentally shows that the Republicans will support anyone to win, even if the candidate is a non-family man, who has paid for an abortion for his girlfriend, and cannot articulate any policy that is even remotely sensical.

Additionally, the mentions of his 'law enforcement' & companies just continue to confirm he should not be near a political office.

The Rs know all this but don't care because they know he'll vote how they tell him to vote.

As a notch Boomer, I could probably talk about also not having the chance earlier due to the overstay of too many Boomers and then getting squeezed by more technologically adept Xers once the doors cracked open slightly.

But I won't do that.

Yeah, we get the Savannah stations so it's a constant barrage of Walker/Warnock and Kemp/Abrams ads. Hink is exactly right. Walker is truly incapable of formulating a coherent thought. It's embarrassing listening to him. But yet it's a close race.

My favorite Hershel comment was some talking head saying something about how he's the most Christian candidate in the race. Of course, the late-night shows grabbed it and pointed out his opponent, The Reverend Warnock. I just want to slap the whole right side of the party and say you're an idiot, stop saying these stupid things.

And representation of the current political tribalism in its purest form.

With the amount of stance bending for Walker and Oz being made by right wing pundits, that is exactly what is happening. As Dana Loesch recently said

“Winning is a virtue. I don’t care if Herschel Walker paid to abort endangered baby eagles. I want control of the Senate."

Walker is like Trump 2.0.

Trump was just as bad in terms of qualification to serve and knowledge of policy.

Just as bad as both is the infamous MT Greene, poster girl for pride of ignorance.

MTG comments on Alex Jones ruling:
He just said words. That's Freedom of Speech.

Walker on heritage:
My grandma was pure Cherokee

Walker's Mom:
That's news to me.

I don't disagree with anything you said.

But this situation has me wondering about a broader aspect of the this and other campaigns. There are those who do stupid things that come back to haunt them later. There is no question about that. Walker might be one of those. But I also wonder about those who make up stuff for political reasons to hurt candidates chances. That is what Walker is claiming it is.

Just look at what happened with John Edwards some years ago. I was genuinely surprised to find out that situation was true. I really thought it would have been someone trying to hurt his political career.

Where there is smoke, there almost always is fire. I mean Kavanaugh was a terrible choice for SC, and he still made it. Even though the "stories" were all true.

Character just doesn't matter any longer in politics. We probably just need to get past assuming it does.

Could not find a Debbie Wasserman Schultz sign to bring some balance to the post.

I agree and it is really sad. There are several candidates down here that I am looking at their past and thinking HTF can I support any of them.
