NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Gas Price Thread

$2.05 just a few minutes ago. That's the lowest I can recall seeing it prior to the invasion of Iraq

This is going to be nice, we are taking the Suburban to the UP on Sunday for Christmas. It will be wonderful to fill up before the pump hits the $100 limit.

Don't forget about the post-crash days (winter of 2008-09) when the national average fell below $2.00.

But yeah, otherwise, gas prices have been higher than $2.00 for most of the past 10 years I would say.

.

I'm looking back at some of the posts from that time and see that folks (some in my area) were posting prices below $2....but for some reason I have no recollection of ever paying less than $2 during the past decade:-|

$1.53 but I cheated the system with my Kroger card. $2.03 was the "real" cost.

Closer to three in Chicago and one I drove by today was well over three. Off hand I'm thinking I saw 2.59 in Highland Park the other day. Surprised its that much cheaper out there.

I think the Route 59 widening project is wreaking havoc on a few of the gas stations over there that are located in ground zero and hard to access, so they lower their prices to be competitive. But then that has a domino effect as every other station along the corridor lowers their prices to match. Plus, with everyone traveling more for the holidays, these stations probably want to stay competitive so people fill up here instead of some other place.

$2.00 at the locally owned Marathon and $2.01 at the local Speedway.

Paid $1.95 in Indiana this evening. Made sure to fill up before getting into Chicago where its in the $2.70s. Saw as low as $1.85 in Ohio today.

I am now seeing it under $2.00. What is very interesting is seeing E-85 priced higher than regular unleaded gas.

Down to $1.79 now. Between gas prices being halved and the Illinois income tax hike being allowed to expire, this is great. Hopefully our local economy will see a nice little boost.

I don't know if it's weather-related or competition-related or what, but this one gas station near me had its gas swing from $2.25 to $1.74 back to $2.25 in one 24-hour period. Now it's at $2.19. The one across the street is at $1.99. I feel like the gas stations are trying to find a happy medium, but they don't know what it is.

Prices jumped 30 cents a gallon about a week ago and were up to $2.04 but slid back down to $1.95 this a.m.

$1.83 I heard prices aren't going to be staying down much longer. It was a nice respite however brief it was.

Gas jumped 30 cents in our area yesterday.

Many in the news are saying that it is in response to a refinery strike. (LINK)

Are the unions to blame for the high gas prices?
Since bargaining first started on Jan. 21, the union has rejected five offers from Shell.

The union is seeking annual pay increases of 6 percent, double the size of those in the last agreement. It also wants work that has been given in the past to non-union contractors to start going to USW members, a tighter policy to prevent workplace fatigue and reductions in members' out-of-pocket payments for healthcare.

BUMP

Getting ready for Memorial Weekend...prices are creeping up. Paid $2.49 for the cheap stuff.
