The pumpkin beers are here.
The pumpkin beers are here.
But where are the Oktoberfest?

I'll drink a pumpkin beer or two and five or six Oktoberfest, as that seems to be the combination to get to stouts, imperial stouts, porters, and barleywines to appear in abundance.

So all you Yuengling fans (are there many?).... you can now get your fix in Texas. The Yuengling family has an agreement to brew their beers at the MillerCoors brewery here in Fort Worth, so we're getting fresh Yuengling now. I believe as they ramp up they will ship to other western states.

Sycamore Brewing out of Charlotte winter brew is called Christmas Cookies. They are known to do a 'naughty can' for the occasion.

Shiner Holiday Cheer is my favorite seasonal brew of all time.

How's that for a confident declaration?

HopSlam is out and about down here.

Changed to 16oz 4-packs this year, but still sooooo delicious!!!
I have never gotten into the super hoppy beers. I will consume maybe 2 or 3 IPA's all summer. I have become increasingly disappointed on how beverage companies try to "Hop" everything up. Which is a shame because there are so man different beer styles that could be really phenominal.

I get that completely. The ultra-hopped beer with excessive bitterness is not the best. The latest juicy style IPAs are better.
Over the top hoppyness=NoDA Hop Drop & Roll
Good Juicy IPA=26 Acres Reptar Juice

HopSlam isn't all about the bitter hoppyness, but there's a nice sweet flavor due to the alcohol content and honey.

I just realized that it's been a while since I have seen a Brute IPA. That's a style fad than came and went in a flash. I don't know if it was the dryness, crispness, or the bubbles; but I liked the style. It was all the rage in 2018/2019 and now it's gone. I don't know if I have seen or had one since 2020.

Finished off the last two of a four-pack my son gifted me of Chimay Brown. Nice, but I won't seek them out as I thought they were a bit too sweet for my liking.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I read an article that Pete's Wicked Ale closed operations 10 years ago.

Pete's WA was a pioneer in craft/better beer.

I've been seeing an uptick in new "hazy" IPAs from local(ish) breweries over that last few months, which are a good alternative to the overly-hopped IPAs that understandingly can turn some folks off to this type of beer.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Florida Man thread...

Florida man breaks beer bottle over head, gets shot by deputy who thought sound was gunshot

He "..stood up through a sunroof and broke a bottle of Busch Light over his head."

As the cops dragged away the bleeding Florida carcass, it uttered "I should've listened to Phil."

I got crowlers (32 oz cans) of some of the holiday beers at my local craft brewer before they disappear until next holiday season, including:

The 2 good bottle shops in the area are closing. 😩

One grocery store chain has killed them when they started bringing more & more in. They’ve got about 3/4 of good craft beer that the bottle shops had.

Happened across this...I dunno what you'd call it...article? about 11 beers that went away. Most I'd had or have seen, but a couple I had never even heard of before.

I always liked J.W. Dundee's Honey Brown. I think it's still around made by Genesee but I've never seen it around here.

Icky Pukey Ale???
Haha.

Answer: In the day when Britons vacationed in India, the jewel in the British crown, they wanted to take some ale along, but that long voyage around the Cape of Good Hope spoiled the average ale. Ale makers learned that pumping up the hops in the mix made an ale that survived that long voyage, thus, India Pale Ale.

As follow up, what is derivation of the term "posh"? Clue, related to same long voyage by the uppa crust.

Actually last night, I tried a 'fruit bomb' IPA - Terrapin's Dreamsickle - & there was no/zero/zilch hoppy taste. I got a sample for a buddy of mine who immediately said "I don't like that IPA crap you drink" to me. I told him to try it & when he did he said he could drink that, gave the rest of his sample to his wife who tried it & then ordered a pint.

The profiles for IPAs have gone so far - & some very different - that these really shouldn't even be called IPAs anymore. However, IPAs are very popular so the breweries are using that as a base, then tarting it up during the process, thus becoming something different. But "true" IPAs have a distinct hop profile, originally to preserve ale for long trips in ships.

BTW - in the beer competitions categories, there are 96 classes/styles of beer, some even with sub-categories.

A friend at our local brewery gave me a 4pk to try. She said not to pay attention to what it says on the can, but just try it & tell her what I thought.

Friends came over last night & I pulled it out. Gave everyone a 4oz sample.

The beer is labeled as a 'Blueberry Sour Double IPA' @ 8.3% abv

Everyone agreed that it had no hoppy taste, no sour taste, & slightly fruity. I said it tasted like cranberry & ginger ale. I'd drink it on a very hot summer day 'cause it would be better than Bud Light.

Haha.

Refers to the preferred side of the ship for the legs of the voyage.

The variety of Buffalo Bills-themed beer at the local grocery store is a sight to behold.

Not Bills-themed beer, but still very Go Bills.

I actually took a photo of the display at Wegmans the other day, doubt any other city comes close to the football themed beers...
The pictures were taken a three hour drive away from Buffalo, just barely on the Bills side of the Bills/Jets fandom boundary. There's so many more canned Bills-themed beers available closer to 716 than what's on store shelves out here.
  • Beer Justice Brewing: Let's Gose Buffalo
  • Big Ditch: Make Me Wanna Stout
  • Blue Toad Cider: Billevievable
  • Brickyard Brewing: Number 14 IPA, Number 17 IPA
  • Buffalo Brewing: Sunday Sauce Cream Ale
  • Community Beer Works: Right Here Right Now Pale Ale
  • First Line Brewing: Beast in the East IPA, Kickin' Bass IPA
  • Flying Bison Brewery: Championship Caliber Golden Ale
  • Steelbound Brewery: Allen Town IPA
  • Rusty Nickel: Victory Monday IPA
  • Thin Man Brewing: Fandemonium IPA
  • Windy Brew: Tailgate Brew Pilsner
  • 12 Gates: Table Smasher Kolsch, Pancho's Legacy Lager
  • 42 North: Where Else Would You Rather Beer? Kolsch
That makes 2 ciders, and (counts) 24 beers? That's not counting any Bills-themed beers brewed outside 716.

As a planner, I might make a road trip to Buffalo to find these. They're not on store shelves here.

The pumpkin & oktoberfest beers have hit the shelves - too hot to drink those yet.
You are not wrong. This past Saturday, I bought a 1/2 case of Sierra Nevada's Oktoberfest, which is a collaboration with Germany’s Kehrwieder Brewery. It's a good solid beer and true to it's style but It's not a beer to drink on a hot august day.

No, you are wrong. It's still to hot to drink the oktoberfest beers and it's always wrong to drink the pumpkin beers. I'm still drinking pilsner.

Catawba Brewery closed their operations in Charlotte yesterday without notice.

I remember AG was fond of their beers.

Mrs. Bubba and I RJ'd out Friday and Monday for a long weekend in Toronto to escape the heat here in Georgia, and apparently I decided to try and drink every Ontario craft-brewed pale ale and IPA I could get my hands on:

Amsterdam Brewery Boneshaker IPA (excellent)
Amsterdam Brewery Cruiser All Day Pale Ale
Amsterdam Brewery Neon Haze IPA
Amsterdam Brewery Space Invader IPA
Collective Arts Brewing Life in the Clouds IPA
Oast House Brewers Farmer's Tan IPA (most excellent)
Sawdust City Brewing Company Lone Pine IPA
Third Moon Brewing Bone Tree IPA (also excellent)
Town Brewery Outside Jokes Pale Ale

Zombie Crack is aging in the bourbon barrels and will soon be available. It's a milk stout aged in bourbon barrels over pecans. It's probably my favorite beer at this point, brewed by HopFusion here in Fort Worth, by a coupla guys I know pretty well.
