el Guapo’s Haar des Hundes Dunkler Honigweizen

Special Holiday Beers? Why yes I have had some recently. Its called: el Guapo’s Hair of the Dog Honey Wheat

Might I take a moment and rub in the fact that I just took two 5 gallon Cornelius kegs out of my conditioning room and placed them in the refrigerator as the prequel to an el Guapo Christmas last night. These two kegs are special. They are my first attempt at grain brewing. The recipe is oneI was given by my local homebrew supply store. It is a mix of grains, DME and one can of malt extract, with some taste and aroma hopping.

I modified the mix a bit to suit my tastes. I like a heaver and more hopped beer than the recipe would produce. A very active stain of German Wheat beer yeast was used to produce the clove and banana phenolics I desire. It is unfiltered and will only be filtered by the kidneys and livers of those people luck enough to enjoy it.

For the experts:
OG 1.042
FG 1.016

Basking in the joy that can only come from getting your family blitzed at Christmas from a beer you made yourself, Merry Christmas.

Has anyone had any good Holiday Beers?

Celebration Ale from Sierra Nevada Brewery (California) is very good, but heavy. If you're gorging on ham, pie, cookies, stuffing, and gravy, it might not be good.

Frambozen Ale from New Belguim Brewing (Colorado) is also good, but it has a hint of Raspberry, and I'm not a big fan of fruity beers.

I think it qualifies as a holiday beer: Bell's White Winter Ale. Had it yesterday and thought it was an excellent accompaniment to wrapping presents while watching football ;)

Good call!

I find out today if I get off these meds that I am on... if so, I am going to have a beer tonight... :D if not, then I have to wait. :-{

Is it sacrilegious that i don't like Creemore Urbock, or bocks in general, as much as I should? :-$

Bells Winter White Wheat

Seen Bells Winter White Wheat in the grocery store and been hemmin and hawing about purchasing some. I've heard it's just ok.

Mmmmm... Beef with beer... oh wait.. you mean they feed them beer? I wonder what PETA thinks about it... :p

Now I wonder if the beer with feed gives the meat a special taste... hopefully making it tastefull, since I remember that US meat was tasteless (I wonder how the can call it meat if you have to add BBQ sauce to make it have any taste at all) unlike here... But I'm drifting off topic... :p

HAPPY HOUR FOR 6 WEEKS
A disgruntled ex-employee stole a truck full of Miller Lite beer and left it
for residents of a west side Indianapolis neighborhood to enjoy for free.
Indiana police are looking for the man who left behind the ingredients for a
six-week-long block party. Investigators say a just-fired deliveryman
employee parked the 53-foot trailer and invited the neighborhood to help
themselves. The semi-trailer held 14,000 cases of beer, but residents drank
"only" 1,500 cases valued at $30,000. "I'm really surprised there's any beer
left," Marion County sheriff's Detective Christa Moncrief said. "I figured it
would have been gone within the first week, but maybe not a lot of people
knew it was here."

It's not one of Uncle Larry's better creations.....'ok' is probably an appropriate rating.

Or maybe no one wanted to drink crappy beer, even if it was free!?!? :-D

I found this image of a 1910s-era construction site on a gallery of old Buffalo images.

Would you go this far for a beer

Man Locks Himself in Pizzeria for Beer
By Associated Press; January 20, 2005

PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- It will be the most expensive keg of beer he's ever had. A 32-year-old Czech man got himself locked up in a pizzeria late Wednesday to have free access to beer overnight.

When the restaurant's staff left, he broke into a cooling box containing a keg, disconnected the pipes leading to the tap, put them in his mouth and drank as much as he could.

The man, drunk and fast asleep, was found by cleaners in the early hours of Thursday.

Police spokesman Vit Cvrcek said he will now have to pay for the beer he drank and faces up to one year in prison or a fine of $346 for the damage he caused to the cooling box.

Dang, talk about stupidity! What a nut case! He should be locked up. Best thing for him, really! Would I go that far for a beer? No way!!!!

Well, I probably would if it was for another 6 pack of that marvelous Czech beer I had last night - Staropramen! Trying to obtain some of that brand of beer might account for that poor misunderstood gentleman's actions.

Hmmm tough decision. Which keg to tap tonight. Will it be the German Altbier, the American Pale Ale, or the Pilsner.

My throat is a bit dry (kof kof). Can't wait till slinking out early time.

Once the throat is lubricated a bit, maybe I will brew up a new batch. A Hallertau/Tettnanger Pilsner sounds right, just like in the Black Forest.

Whoops, its almost lunchtime, gotta go commandeer the microwave!

Czech beer is probably my favourite beer; well certainly my favourite lager anyway....Staropramen, Budweiser (the original), Pilsner Urquell......all fantastic.

looking forward to a couple of staropramens tonight after the football/soccer ;)

I can't be the only one who has drank right from the tap of a keg around here. :-$

Saturday night was -30 celsius with windchill and there were STILL three keggers that I was aware of... and then I got a phone call at 5am on Sunday morning from my Russian buddies who wanted to have a wine and brandy party. I think I should just adapt to being permanently inebriated.

I would love to lurk more, sweetie, but I am not some kid off on summer vacation.

Now, back on topic: Since we recently established that drinking regularly is good for you (linky), I think all the keggers should fess up to the healthful habits of feeding their appetite for The Good Stuff. :D I can't really participate in this thread. Everyone knows my genetic defects prevent me from enjoying the health benefits of a good beer. :-{

People are also invited to comment further on the all important detail that this thread is thread #11,000. :p Perhaps a mod should add that to the title. (I would but my editing privileges have expired on my earlier post.) IMO, that alone merits a thread -- similar to clube parties where we all congratulate someone for talking almost as much as I do. :a:

I would if it was a proper thread - look before you leap. As Skeleton pointed out this topic had already been brought up in another thread. Instead, I shall just merge this thread with the NEBT. :)

Back on topic...

Only had one beer this weekend - my current favourite, "Fuller's London Pride". The rest of the weekend was an early Robbie Burns Day scotch-fest.

about time for a few cheeky beers tonight - I've got some Hoegaarden (Belgian Wheat Beer) in to drink whilst watching the big football\soccer match. Should be good :-D

Of course not. Some of us have even done that while standing on our hands over the keg. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9... :-$

No, you're not! I remember drinking off a keg until I had foam coming out my nose ...that hurts.

I recently noticed a family member who seemed to be drinking beer every day who didn't really drink before and it caused me to realize I've been drinking 2 beers/night myself pretty much every day for the last month. This isn't such a bad thing, mind you, but I noticed this morning that I just lost a clear line of sight to my belt buckle. D'oh!

What's a belt buckle?

Bear

(Actually did lose 18 pounds during hospital stay!)

Tranplanner, I am craving one of those raspberry wheat lagers... haven't seen them round these parts.

I have had beer in the past month, but I just realized that I have not GONE OUT for a beer in the past month. While having a beer in one's home is a wonderful thing, nothing beats a good happy hour.

VERY GOOD POINT!

This may call for a Boddington's or Fat Tire after City Council tonight at the Pub down the street. ;)

True. Last beer I had while out was a Wicked Blonde, while sitting on a sunny balcony at The Establishment a couple of weeks ago. There is something special about a nice cold pint of beer... :b: :) :b:

Here in my fair city there is a restaurant/bar with a Thur. Night happy hour of 20 oz. MicroBrews for $3. Last Thur. I went with a buddy and Larry Bell of Bell Brewery was there and they were selling 20oz Bells for $2.00. Now that my friend was a Happy Hour

Here is another crime involving beer.
From the AP Wire:

Woman Pleads Guilty to Selling Fake Beer

Article Highlights:
BRISBANE, Australia -- "A woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to selling on eBay three nonexistent cases of Duff brand beer -- the favorite of cartoon character Homer Simpson.
...three charges of dishonestly gaining money by false pretenses.

...was caught because she listed her correct name and address on the auction site, the court was told."
