You too? Have you tried the Hoegaarden White?
There's a case of Blue Moon sitting in my basement right now. They're going to taste mighty good after I finish cutting the grass on Saturday. :b: :p

Blue Moon is my favorite everyday Belgian White although I think it tastes better on tap. I've found that if you let the bottled one sit a few minutes after pouring it tastes a bit more like the tap version. Reminds me I need to go to the beer store and get some more since the husband was looking a little forlorn about a beerless fridge Sunday.

Prana, I had J. W. Lee Harvest Ale 2004 Edition last night. Bold flavor, heavy ale and strong at 11.5% alcohol. Ms. P didn't like it at all, she said it was like a raisan liquer. I have a 2000 Edition of the same and going to save it. The label says to "enjoy it now or let it age like wine and enjoy it later."

Nice stuff! I have had one at Thanksgiving each of the last few years, but still break one out every now and then. I have a '97 chillin' in the fridge that is calling my name. Be sure to look for Thomas Hardy and Traquair House Ale if you don't already know those!

Also, for the store that I work nights at, I just ordered a case of each year '98-'06 for both Thomas Hardy and JW Lees Harvest!!! Who knows which we might get, but that would be a hell of a vertical tasting.

If your local stores happen to get other beers from Shelton Brothers Distributing WEBSITE, be on the lookout for a bunch of new stuff! I ordered about 40 new beers that weren't previously available in Colorado and some not available in the States.

Reading some of the posts of beers from around the county made me wonder what’s the best beer you have ever consumed... that you remember anyhow.

A seasonal blackberry porter at the McMenamin's in Beaverton, Oregon. Divine! These folks do microbrew in a quirky way. God I miss their pubs! They restore historic properties and put a pubs, hotels, theaters or any combination thereof in them. If you are ever in NW Oregon or SW Washington they are a must visit. Good photos here => www.mcmenamins.com

The best beer I've consumed in the last seven months was probably a Rogue I2PA (had a really good Belgium brown ale about the same time, but the brand name escapes me). Best beer *ever* is going to require some thought (damn those lost brain cells from over consumption in college:b:).

That's like asking me to choose a favorite child....you bastard! Favorite child is easy though since I only have one!

Favorite beer...can't give you just one- totally depends on mood, company, time of year, etc, etc.

Local:
New Belgium La Folie (2002 is still the best)
Grand Lake Super Chicken Barleywine
Stouts:
Stone Imperial Stout (aged 2-3 years)
Bar Harbor Brewing Cadillac Mountain Stout- this guy does it in his basement!!
Belgian:
Trappist Westvleteren 12 (nearly impossible to get)
St. Bernardus 12 (readily accessible in the states)
Biggest surprise brewery:
Antares from Argentina

My Favorites...

Enough said...

Way too many to think about...but I'll have to say Dogfish Head Burton Baton (and very hard to get).

As far as the usual suspects (those I readily buy and/or consume) are:
Newcastle Brown Ale (English)
Sierra Nevada Pale (American)
Olde Hickory Brewery Table Rock Pale Ale (microbrew)

My current rotation of regulars includes:

Terrapin Rye Ale (better on draft than out of the bottle)
Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale
Brooklyn Brown Ale
Staropramen Premium Lager (my "lawnmower" beer)

A friend described it like this: "If God came in liquid form, this is what He would taste like."

Headline and Article from the AP Wire:

Anheuser-Busch: Same taste, few changes planned for Rolling Rock

Highlights
Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., which bought the beer in May, said the Latrobe brew's iconic green bottle will stay the same, as will the taste. The label will undergo a few minor changes, but the mysterious "33" will remain.

We are going to retain as much of the history and tradition and heritage of this brand," said Andy Goeler, vice president of Anheuser-Busch's import, craft and specialty group.

Latrobe Brewing Co., which made the beer since 1939, was not part of the deal.

It is now brewed in New Jersey.

That bear republic racer 5 is good stuff - very hoppy.

I wish I could try your Double IPA. Sounds delicious.

My liver hurts just reading that list.

I had a good beer last night, it was a "limited edition" (2500 bottles) 2005 Red Honey Beer from Brick. I actually bought it for the pint glass because I figured the beer would be skunky (bought beer in June and it is labelled 2005).

I just drove past prana's house. I should've loaded up my truck when he had his back turned. :6::b::-@

I wonder if you'll be in the vicinty of the family cabin. Fairplay is mighty close.

Too many visitors at my pad this weekend. But thanks.
Have a good time though. :)

I would like to try some of your homebrew sometime in the future (or possibly see you begin a batch)

No problem. I just bought the stuff to convert my beer fridge to have a tap. I don't know when I will have time to get that done, but this is the first beer that I have kegged rather than bottling...so we wil see how I did. Hopefully I bring some of it home and that will motivate me convert the fridge!!

Dang man... I'm going camping with some buddies in the mountains of central PA this weekend. I'm planning on a case of Yuengling and a couple growlers from East End Brewing.

I'm no longer impressed by us. :p

In our defense, the Yuengling is in the cooler only because the distributor is out of Dale's Pale. :-@

Sounds like someone needs to make a trip to Point Breeze for Growler Hour tonight? :b: The Witte, Big Hop and Pedal Pale Ale are three of my favorites at EEB.

At least it's not Rolling Rock :-@ :victory:

If you find yourself anywhere near Centre County this weekend I'd suggest checking out the State College Beer Expo. Seems like a good time to me.

Yes sir, swung by there and had Scott hook me up. I love that place... I can easily spend an hour in there chatting, sampling brews and looking at the shiny tanks. We'll be enjoying the Big Hop and Pedal this weekend.

We're mainly going up there to mountain bike, but I'm nursing a bit of a leg injury. If the riding is too much for me, the Expo is the back-up plan for the weekend! Definitely looks like a good time.

Tried an Odells Single Batch Double Pilsner last night. Pretty good, some lightness you'd find in a pilsner, but it had some body and a little bite. Actually "double" is the best way to describe it.

I told some buddies to bring "beer" this weekend for after we golf. We'll see what turns up.

Here's something you don't see everyday.

CANBERRA, Australia - A pair of beer-swilling pigs has embroiled an Australian pub in an animal cruelty debate.

Visitors to "Pub in the Paddock" in the island-state of Tasmania are invited to pour bottles of beer down the willing throats of resident pigs Priscilla and P.B.

"It's not natural to give a pig a beer."

Should be a good week. :b: :-D

Boddington's raises hell with my stomach for some reason. Think it's those draught cans in general. nevertheless, a good brew:)

Well, my liver is starting to recover well enough that a beer actually sounds good tonight. But for anyone keeping score at home, here is a portion of what 6, yes only 6 people, drank over 3 days of camping...

Keg of New Belgium Transatlantique Kriek (7 of 8 gallon)
Keg of prAna's homebrew Double IPA (4 of 5 gallon)
New Belgium Saison (a case) (to be released in about a month)
Southampton Grand Cru
Southampton Imperial Porter
Southampton Doublt Wit
Southampton Bier de Garde
Brooklyn Monster 2003
Left Hand Widdershins 2004
New Belgium Grand Cru 2006 (6 pack) (unreleased)
New Belgium 1554, Sunshine and Triple (brought home a few of each)
Edmund Fitzgerald
Erie Brewing Big Red
Rogue Shakespeare Stout and Hazelnut Brown
Blithering Idiot
Gouden Carolus
Bell's Batch 7000
Two Brothers Wheat Wine 2000
Dale's Pale (12 pack)
Gordon (4 pack)
Bristol Edge City Double IPA
Arrogant Bastard
Between 3 guys, they probably had 15 different styles of homebrews from vanilla porter to braggot to full open fermentation garage experiments
And I know there were at least 15 other beers there that I just can't remember.

Oh- and we stopped at the Dillon Dam Brewery for a few more on the way home....

From Mid-June of 2005...after the Dogfish 120 minute IPA

zmanPLAN said:
You know, Prana was right, the Dogfish 120 minute IPA was HOPPY. Thick and full of alcohol too. It was okay for me, but I tend to shy away from Hoppy beers and probably won't buy this again.

It is amazing to read about how one's tastes can change over the course of a year. "Probably won't buy this again." Has changed into IPAs and other hoppy assortments being my favorite beers. Thick and full of alcohol is also a norm for the residents of the garage fridge.

Wow, it sure is interesting to read all of this. :)

Welcome my friend to the world of IPAs:) Good Stuff! Ms. P had the same transition when she had her first IPAs - yuk. Now she asked which kind I brought home from the store (which was a 6pack of Harpoon IPA this week).

Since beer prices were recently mentioned on the bland food thread... our local Harris Teeter is regularly selling Newcastle Brown Ale for $8.99 a 6pack and $13.99 a 12pack. Sam's Club started stocking Newcastle at $23.48 a case (actually 2 12packs). Unless I'm missing something from the new math class, who'd buy a 6pack?

That reminds, Yo - Big Owl, been to Gail's in the Holy NW recently?

Can anyone smell that familiar scent in the air? Yep...it's becoming fall in the Rockies despite what the thermometer says and that means it's time for the Great American Beer Festival!! 25 years!! Holy crap! Over 380 breweries and about 1,680 different beers will be on the convention center floor! Ahhhh, as close to heaven as I need to get.

Yeah, I haven't had a beer in a while either... ;-)

Last weekend was the great "fruity beer" taste-off at Chez Tranplanner. I think the consensus winner was Unibroue's "Ephemere", which this year is made with apple. Really really good - especially when compared to Nickle Brooks "Green Apple Pilsner", which smells like those Mr. Sketch scented markers and tastes like that crappy apple juice they used to give us in primary school.

And, joy of joys, you can now get Pumphouse Brewing's "Blueberry Ale" in Ontario - previously Donk had to import it personally from New Brunswick.

Hmmmm....not much of a decision for me. Good luck with that though. I would suggest hitting the GABF on Friday night, but you would never make it to Aspen and in absolutley no shape to actually play golf on Saturday!

Wednesday through Friday is a free, all expenses paid trip to Telluride for the Colo. APA conference.

This is quite the quandry. Perhaps my buddy in Aspen would prefer to attend the Beer Fest?

Can you say Hops?

In the fine tradition of drinking in the driveway with A-B employees; I will be consuming another in the long line of so-called "weird beers" this weekend.

A have a nice bomber of Hazed and Infused from Boulder to consume. Should be tastier counterpart to the canned Budwater Light that they consume. :-D

Also, it seems stores are stocking Ocktoberfest beers already! :-D Time for a beer run.... :b:

My brother delivers for AB. We go throught the same thing here. Sometimes he does show up with some Goose Island, which I guess AB distributes. Those are the good nights.:p :p

Check out this secret:

Widmer Brothers, a brewery in Portland, Oregon, is owned by A-B

I do get to try some A-B beers that are "testers". A fairly decent Beach Bum Blonde and a Demon Hop Yard IPA were okay.

There was one last Saturday that my neighbor handed me with a "So, you like Hops, eh?" being said.

After a taste I had to reply, "What Hops." ^o)

It's a wonder that people still hang out with me. :-$

can you get me any of those tasters of the Hop Yard and Beach bum? I would be interested in trying them.

A-B also owns Redhook and a handful of other micros across the country. The "line" is that the beers will remain the same and A-B only wants the breweries for distribution purposes. Skepticism flows like hot lava with most A-B haters.

Stone Brewing in San Diego recently hired one of the young gun brewers from A-B. There are certainly talented brewers at the macro level, but it's a shame that they are restricted so much. All of the artistry has been eliminated at that level.

With the recent news of 11% gains in the micro world, A-B will most likely start pushing some of these "experiments" a little harder in order to recapture that market.

can you get me any of those tasters of the Hop Yard and Beach bum? I would be interested in trying them.

I will do my best, he should be home this weekend and always has basic bottles of beer in his fridge.

I'm kind of feeling low now about Redhook's ownership. :-( Oh well, Winterhook is still tasty on a cold December night!

I just finished the last of my Sweet Water Blue, a blue berry beer from the Atlanta Brewery. The Blueberry is subtle... i liked it. It's my new breakfast beer.;-)

prana and Miles Iggy! When are you attending the GABF?

Saturday afternoon for me. It's the Connoisseur Session...costs a little more unless you are an AHA member but it's less crowded, less drunks and more brewers in attendance. BeerTown link

After that, we'll be at the Falling Rock and maybe a couple of other breweries downtown and then the after-after-after party in our room at the Magnolia Hotel probably. There is a group of us that all got rooms over there. :-D I ponied up the extra dough for the suite with the fridge and living room! I might as well officially switch my birthday to the dates of the GABF! Can you legally do that? ^o)

The AHA Connoisseur Session sounds about right to me! That may be in my best interest. I went last year to the Friday "Drunk fest" and around last pour it was just too crowded.
If we (as in my buddy and me) end up at the Falling Rock I'll buy you a beer. We may go to this distillery/tasting room that is supposedly near the Flying Dog brewery too.
I am excited, and will have to make room in the budget for this for sure! :-D
