RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 20 (2025)

Oh, to the 2000 club.

(6 now, but no inflating because that's cheatin'.)

I was thinking geography.

How the hell has it been almost 2,000 posts already?

They should just give tRump some dubious unreal honor like Order of the Golden Vulture & poof, funding reappears.

Oh come on now, you can't give OGV to just anybody! Have you no sense of tradition? Of decorum?

Fine, okay, give it to him if it makes him happy.

Anyone else in the office til the bitter end today?

I volunteered, because
1) no kids out of school
2) no family visiting
3) I'm not hosting dinner tomorrow
4) I want to be able to leave early on XMas Eve because my sister will be in town

Wednesday is a WFH day for me but I will be taking some time off today. A few things I need to get out applicants but a day with very little external activity. Previous location I worked, the ACM would stop by early afternoon and say go home. This would also happen on Christmas eve.

Yep, because as the person at the front desk I need to be here until closing time, 5:00. But if they come around and let us out early I wouldn't complain. The Mayor already gave us all Christmas Eve off as a freebee this year (thereby cancelling that 12-24 PC meeting I was wondering about.)

It was still on the calendar?

Getting my COVID shot Friday at 9:30 am. I imagine I will feel like poop from about 3 p.m. Friday night until about 10 a.m. Saturday, and be back to normal by Saturday afternoon. Regardless, not planning anything for Friday or Saturday this week.

How old would something have been to be considered "old fashioned" in the 1890s?

Looking around for a gym near my office, so I can get the commute of of the way and THEN do a workout.

Why can't gyms put their prices online? I don't want to "call or email for a quote." Just put the monthly rate online and I'll decide then.

I did find one I like about a mile from the office. The very cute girl there told me they will be having a Black Friday special from Friday through Monday, so if I pop in on Monday, let's see what they can do. $35 a month isn't bad, but if they offered me $20 I'd do it.

(We do already have a perfectly good, if small, gym in our HOA clubhouse that we already pay for with our dues, but I don't like going there before work knowing I still have a commute ahead of me.)

If there is one that you might be interested in, go for a tour of it. Look at the locker rooms and shower facilities, check to see if they have the equipment that you want to use, and watch people to see if you can get a feel for how the culture is. Every gym will have a cute girl or two, but not every gym will have a squat rack and a locker big enough to hold a suit.

A buddy of mine from college does exactly what you are talking about. He has a 60-ish minute community into Detroit, goes to the gym after his commute. It give him time to drink his coffee and wake up before he gets into his work out.

At the vet’s office (for a routine bird matter).

I read this as “FAICP” at first. Maybe I need to see the eye doctor today too in addition to the bird doctor. :)

(My best guess is “Fire Access Control Panel,” but I dunno.)

Come back after the holiday and I have CC tonight (Comp Plan adoption) and ZBA tomorrow evening, both sure to be long and eventful. FML.

Every Sunday my siblings and I go to our parents’ house for supper, along with our kids and grandkids. Our mom cooks, and we all pitch in. When there is a birthday, she lets the birthday person choose the meal, usually the Sunday before or after their birthday. My birthday was the day after Thanksgiving this year. When Sunday came around, she served turkey casserole with leftover Thanksgiving sides. I did not think much of it, and I was not asked what I wanted, but to be fair, I always tell her to make whatever is easiest. While we were cleaning up, my sister stated that the meal was actually perfect because nothing fits a middle child better than a birthday dinner made entirely of leftovers.

One of the shows that I really enjoyed was Yellowstone... I hope this is just as good...

I enjoyed Yellowstone, too, but mostly because of Kelly Reilly. Totally not realistic and a conservation easement would have prevented all the drama but then there would not be a show.

By the way, I am playing both Whammageddon and Carey-opolipse this year. I was eliminated from both in the pregame; but luckily am still in both official games, which started ten hours ago.

Already by the 1890's this country's horse whipperies were going woke. They were already softening much needed blows to horses that previous generations would have dealt with a firm right hand and a lusty laugh. Sad

ALMOST drove down to San Jose on Friday to see the Canucks vs Sharks, just because it was a quiet day and I didn't have anything else going on.

Had I done that, my Canucks would now be 0-12-1-1 with me in the stands, rather than 0-11-1-1. (All time going back to 1991)

My sister called from work Friday and asked me to go check on her husband, who had complained of chest pains. My son-in-law and I discovered him with no pulse, although he was still warm to the touch. SIL started compressions and I called for an ambulance. Some of his friends showed up with an AED, but were advised not to shock. So, my sister lost her husband.

My sister, her son and the rest of our family are grieving. I can't get the vision of having found him out of my head, and I'm sure the same is happening with my son-in-law. This is a sad time for our family.

I am sorry to hear this. I can’t imagine walking in on that.

It's a little late so I have a suggestion. Maybe we could do some sort of exchange in late January/early February when everyone has a good case of the winter blahs and this would be a fun pick me.
Good to re-gift some things from Christmas too... (ducks, runs away).

I have a nice 3 days off planned for next week... but was summons to sit as a witness in a trial from years ago with a former employer. Should be fun... I guess.

Similar story here - happened to an employee in the County Surveyor office.
Because of my health situation, several women I had worked with read me the riot act about keeping in touch & dont mess around call 911.
I believe several Cyburbians have said the same.

Do you think all those hundreds of downloadable games on phones tend to be gender targeted? A suggestion for 'Archery Clash' popped up on my Google Play list and it appears to be a game where two women are facing each other from a hundred yards or more away and both women are carrying bows and arrows. Evidently you take turns trying to hit the opposing woman in the distance. If you don't take her down with an arrow then she gets to shoot back at you. Does this strike you as being a game geared towards women or men?

There's nothing unethical about re-gifting. At Thanksgiving, I brought some whisky over to the in-laws, explaining that we got it as a gift and won't drink it, but they would enjoy it. They were grateful and popped it open.

Could be either.

Could be either.
you think? The theme is kinda violent. Not that that necessarily discourages all women but it seems statistically less likely they'd be interested in a game where you're trying to inflict injury on someone else.

That is definitely appropriate archery clothing kit too.

Totally normal.

We never started an NHL thread this season, did we? Huh.

My Sabres are again bottom dwellers, but hope has not yet died. Last season we traded Dylan Cozens to Ottawa for Josh Norris who was injured at the time. He came back briefly at the end of the season and looked very good. Then he suffered a different injury in Game 1 of this season. He played in his second game of the season last night, a 5-1 blowout of Winnipeg.

The hope is that with his return, all the players who were playing one line too high can now settle into appropriate spots and the team can start winning more.
The silver lining is that with the injuries they've had, they've gotten impressive stretches out of prospects, leading to more optimism for the future. It feels like they're getting NHL time after getting properly developed, instead of being rushed up to the NHL. At this point Tyson Kozak has shown himself to be a competent bottom six/defensive center who's good on faceoffs, Noah Östlund looks like he's ready for duty in the middle six at center, and Isak Rosén looks he'll be a good winger. In previous appearances, Östlund and Rosén looked kind of lost at the NHL level, but they've filled in their games, especially the physical part.

I hope the game they played last night becomes their typical style: Fast, swarming, physical, and defensively responsible. They've shown glimpses of that at times and beaten good teams like Carolina, but then they'll lose to other bottom feeders. If they could consistently play their A game, they'd be a good team.

Goaltending had been one of their issues and they picked up Colten Ellis off waivers early (again, due to an injury). At this point, all three of their goaltenders have .898 to .899 save percentages. Not superstars, but they're not a problem keeping them from winning either. They probably need to move one of them soon; with players getting healthier they're going to need that extra roster spot.

I've been off since last Monday and today is my first day in the office in about 2 weeks and it smells like a Cinnabon in here. I did a little investigating and found one of the sheriff deputies from the front desk eating the biggest cinnamon bun I've ever seen. He must have just heated it up in the kitchen in our office. Now I need a cinnamon bun!

My last words to my wife at the movie theater were, “In just a few weeks you’ll be 50 and able to get the senior discount.”

Funeral services are pending. I was 49.
As someone who just turned 50, it really is not so bad. I had a harder time turning 25. It also helps that about 15 years ago my doctor told me my lab results would be acceptable for someone who was 50. Fast forward to now and my lab results are about the same, so it feels like my age has finally caught up to my body.

I am accepting the thought in 2 years I will turn 70.
I was a planner for only 31 years.
