For this old retired planner, what is this "pin and pixel album cover" that you speak of ?

Developer is upset because I'm asking for a traffic study. Wants to put a 24 hour gas station/overnight truck parking lot next to a freeway interchange and thinks it's "no big deal". I was like sure go ahead and submit and I'll just tell the planning commission to table the request until you've done one.

This is interesting...

It makes me wonder why they didn't transfer the students to some other school or do something else if there were so few kids still attending. I looked it up and there are a total of 182 kids at that school. But it is one of 3 High Schools in that district. But all of them are PK-12 and the others have 84 and 212 students. By comparison, our high school (which is quite new) has nearly 3,000 students.

I just wonder what the upkeep on a building like that is with such a low enrollment.

Our male cockatiel was getting WAY too aggressive--more so than usual--so I had to take his nesting box away. He made the most god-awful, saddening scream I had ever heard, and a sound I had never heard him make. Definitely a mourning call. I felt bad, but his hormones have definitely tamped down and he's back to his normal sweet self.

I suspect having a young-ish female in the house is doing a number on him. (Lucy will be 3 next week.)

How can he woo the ladies without a nesting box? I mean it's where all the magic happens.

Well, we don't really want them getting too close, shall I say . . . But I don't think she's interested in him anyway. They do get along really well as best friends. (Rio and our previous female, Jensen, barely tolerated each other, but what's weird is he was noticibly sad when she passed.)

Poor Rio got friend zoned, but he'll still try.

Something sarcastic (insert pop culture reference). Snark snarkedy snark.

Nikoネコ sohu ソフ- as written in katakana, which is used for foreign words. Second could be ンフ which is "nhu" but does not make sense to me. Two similar characters but written slightly different. Niko is "cat" but not sure what "sohu" or "nhu" conveys. Thought "niko" was Japanese, so not foreign, but appears to be culturally appropriate to use the katakana form. Catzilla would be カトジラ katogira. My best guess, anyway.

Sometimes you hear a voice that's so good it brings tears to your eyes. Linda has such a voice. Just got this disc and it's simply fabulous. Years ago I only knew her for her rock songs, but when she goes full country she's in the very top echelon of singers in my opinion. I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You) is just otherworldly good.

I only learned recently that she was the vocalist for "Different Drum" by the Stone Poneys. It makes perfect sense - her vocalizations are pretty unique - but it had never occurred to me before. I like the song even better now.

Ironic that the 2027 National Planning Conference will be in Houston, a city with no planning.

I'm likely to skip that one; I've been to Houston enough times. (Hey! Wasn't it supposed to be in Houston in 2020 anyway, but didn't happen for obvious reasons?)

Jim

They have planning, just not traditional zoning.
I did a conference session on this last year--the myth of unzoned Houston, and understanding of pure performance-based zoning methods. I've often said many of the best planners I've met have worked in Houston, because they have learned to do without the crutch of traditional zoning.

I am sure we will learn all about it at #npc27.

I learned that a few years ago too and yeah, it was an eye-opener. Of course you know Different Drum was written by Michael Nesmith of Monkees fame, right?

I was just mentioning to my son how amazing the music world is, with all the collaboration. Another Linda tie-in: Did you know she was instrumental in forming the Eagles when she hired Glenn Fry and Don Henley for her band and they roomed together on tour, and after they told her they were going to form their own band, she helped introduce other musicians to them?

Life is feeling a bit out of sorts and chaotic lately so of course I suggested we get a puppy. Can't have a human baby so might as well get a furry one. 🤪

Probably won't happen but fun to think about a chubby puppy belly. And chewed up everything. And potty accidents. And more barking. And more food. And more poop bags.

Would getting a cat be better or volunteer at a shelter ?

My Sunday New York Times did not arrive. But when out walking, I noticed a NYT on my next door neighbor’s drive. I have never known them to get any newspaper (despite the box) in 15 years, so I think this is actually my paper, misdelivered.

But since I didn’t know that for sure, I decided to leave it there and execute my “missed paper” procedure and buy one at the store later today I’d rather buy a replacement than sell my integrity for six bucks and be known as the Lockwood Newspaper Bandit.

The best of both worlds is to foster pets. A lot of cities and rescue orgs will pay expenses for the animal and if you need to travel or whatever, they can take the animal back temporarily. Best case scenarios are you are a serial foster for several dogs or cats, all of which eventually get adopted into furever homes, or you really bond with a foster and adopt it eventually (aka "foster fail"). Worst case scenario is someone else adopts a pet you care for very much, or you have to give the pet back because it's problematic. In all of those cases you're a hero though.

Nice day here weather-wise yesterday after some morning rain, which was good for The Boys Next Door (TM) since they had some sort of party in their backyard for some occasion (maybe an early birthday party for one of their kids since one of the Boys had family in town visiting). Anyhoo, two points of order:

1. Normally they give us a heads-up on these fetes to warn us that the street is going to be completely jacked-up with cars parked everywhere; and
2. If you're going to blast music in your backyard for 5+ hours on a Sunday afternoon, at least try to play decent music, please. :cursing:

We were able to spend time in the pool this weekend. Wife was unable to really enjoy it because of her work situation right now.

Different work schedule this week and next. WFH today, which is normally a day off, but working as I am taking Tuesday off as my youngest graduates HS. WFH Wednesday but do have a doctor appointment. Off Thursday for same son's surgery. In-office Friday. Off next Monday for Memorial Day but since that is my normal day off, I take another day off which will likely be Tuesday. WFH Wednesday and Thursday and in-office Friday.

Haven't yet figured out how to fully capitalize on the upcoming three-day weekend.

My mother-in-law is on this gig service where she babysits cats and dogs. She actually has quite a few regulars!

My too. Since Monday is a holiday, those of us on 4/10's revert to 5/8s with the holiday off rather than our usual day off (Tuesday in my case). Our work week begins on Fridays (for some reason lost to history), so beginning Friday, I work 730-1630, and will be off Monday, then 730-1630 Tuesday through Thursday before returning to my 700-1730 on Friday.

But what I do with those extra two hours is: I still come to work by 640, but I go down to the basement gym before work for half an hour, then do a quick shower and get to work at 730.
