RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 20 (2025)

I feel your pain brother. Not many things gross me out, but when I first had to pull the huge nasty slimy smelly gunky bundle of hair out of the shower drain that my daughters use I almost lost it.
Over a dozen years ago in a tool repair shop I bought a few pairs of twelve inch long Pakistani stainless hemostats at two bucks apiece. Long enough to reach the bottom of a bath sink p-trap, and to fish out lots of globs.

99% of the time when we go out to eat we go to small independent restaurants. This weekend for our anniversary we decided to go full bougie and visited two places we have never been: P F Chaing's for dinner and Cheesecake Factory for dessert.

Surprisingly, both MUCH better than expected.

I don't watch the superbowl. I came to the laundromat figuring that I'd be the only person here.

1. I'm not.
2. A couple were in a lip lock beside their washer.
3. I wonder if I should tell a man that he should have put the coat he is wearing in the wash.
4. I can't believe how many machines people use.

About Jalen Hurts - in pretty good company

He joins Joe Namath and Joe Montana as the third quarterback to ever win a championship in college and the NFL.
Namath, like Hurts, won a title at Alabama.
Montana won his at Notre Dame.

Hurts joined quite a group, as he is only the fourth quarterback in league history to lose his first Super Bowl and come back to win one as a starter, joining John Elway, Bob Griese and Len Dawson.

I just learned: Milton Williams, the defensive lineman who caused and recovered the Mahommes fumble, went to the same school district (but not the same high school) as my sons. Local guy.

This might not be a popular opinion, but I was not impressed with halftime. The 2022 show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem was way better.

My Super Bowl thoughts

In my Lieutenant Troi gig, I knew Kansas City would lose when I watched them getting ready for the game to start - they all looked scared

They barely played in the first half and then didn't even try to make a comeback after the half - hello, Super Bowl 51 anyone?

They lost from the beginning

I am not an Eagles fan but at least they showed up and made some amazing plays

I loved the halftime show - I am not a hardcore rap fan but this was a good year for this type of show - heavy symbolism that was needed - loved it

Super such events make me want to not attend them even with the mind. Mass mentality is something to avoid.

This was the subject of debate decades ago when I used to go to the laundromat (I didn't trust my apartment complex's dryer because it set my load on fire one time).

Is there any difference between using one machine for five hours, or five machines for one hour? It's the same number of "machine hours."

I don't think the Monday after the Superbowl is the best day to roll out a massively late update to the main program that all offices access.

It's not the same number of people hours. It's more efficient to use multiple machines. I just can't believe the volume of laundry people have.

Let's compile a list of what's wrong about this picture.

Those were the homeschooled kids at the Big Balls Youth Oligarch League meeting yesterday with their parents begging the Chairman to drive to Washington DC and ram the local league’s Starcraft loaded with IEDs into the Department of Education?

You too huh?

We're updating the entire Finance & HR system just as we start budget season.

I can see people getting down to that last ratty pair of undies in order to avoid the laundromat and thus having a yuge load of laundry to do when the time finally comes.

I like Kendrick Lamar and thought the halftime show was good and I liked the production in general, but it felt like it was missing something...

I think over the past few years we've grown accustomed to seeing a bunch of other artists come out and join the headliner for a bit, and other than a verse by SZA, that didn't happen last night.

I was texting with a buddy of mine right after the halftime show about how I really liked the one a few years ago with Dre and Snoop and Eminem and 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige and (and a brief cameo by Kendrick Lamar) and he made the point that of course I liked that better... because I'm old now and Dre and Snoop and the rest were cool 25+ years ago.

Eventually, everybody has to age out of what they like for the halftime performances. I guess the time is approaching for those of a certain age. Thankfully I enjoyed last night's enough that I will still claim to be with it.

Well, I spent all day yesterday doing ours . . . We do an alarming amount of laundry for a house of two (and occasionally three) people.'

I even washed everything in my gym bag yesterday. I don't want to have to locate it by smell.

I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. But I'm a huge Kendrick fan and have tickets to see him and SZA when they're in Detroit in June.

That being said, outside of all the symbolism, something did feel missing. I think SZA should have been more involved.

I didn't mind the Kendrick Lamar show, but I would have preferred to see Post Malone. I thought HE was going to be in the show and kept waiting for him.

Best halftime show in recent memory is Katy Perry about 10 years ago.

Many years ago we went to an area church to watch the game (they showed the game free, but made money on snacks and donations to avoid copyright issues--clever!). They had an "alternate halftime show" where they turned off whoever was performing and had a few skits with kids and teenagers perform live instead. It was cute.

The pastor said that the church didn't have the rights to show the halftime show. I don't see how that's possible since they are not charging admission so there are no rights to buy, but, be that as it may . . .

We usually have a big game blowout at our house, but this year, we did that for the NFC Championship. Wife had to work yesterday so we decided not to do it again for Super Bowl. We do plan to next year, though.

We had Super Bowl parties every year from 2013 to 2020, skipped in 2021 and 22 for obvious reasons, small gathering in 23, and back to normal in 24 and 25*.

*NFC Championship Party, not Super Bowl Party.

By having such a lopsided contest they kinda did.

Seriously, that was about the worst Superbowl I have ever seen.

Well okay, the breast cancer awareness ad was worth remembering.

Kanye West's ad was strange - it's for his website that only sells a t-shirt with a swastica printed on it. I wonder if Fox knew that before it aired.

The game was a brutal defeat.

A church that I went to years ago did the same thing for a while. They had an internal policy not to show the halftime show. Last time they did was Timberlake and Janet Jackson...

If that's a church policy, just say so. Don't say it's a rights issue.

Wifey and I aren't really church people, but there are a few churches we occasionally dip into for community events/classes.

Talking with a friend at lunch - his assessment of the game was "it looked like when ohio state plays it first four games every year against lower division schools"

Hosted a Superbowl party with Shriners. Like the church we don't charge for the broadcast, it just happens to be on. We charge for the food. BTW, anyone want some left over BBQ pork? I didn't get to pay a lot of attention to the commercials and stopped paying attention to the game after halftime other than paying out our quarterly betting squares. I didn't get much from the halftime show since someone muted it as soon as it started. This is what you get hanging out with a bunch of old guys who don't understand why the NFL keeps doing all this rap stuff for halftime. I had to explain they want the younger crowds and we're all just too old to recognize the musicians anymore.

Or what it will look like when the Gators play mighty LIU this year? They all do it. OSU actually plays Texas the first game. Plus the BIG 10 plays 9 conference games so having 4 cupcakes is not really possible. The SEC should really get on board.

HaHaHa - It's a continuous joke about tosu & rankings (although this year they actually pulled it off). We can pull previous years schedules if you'd like, or just drink a beer & agree.

I wasn't thrilled with anything in the game last night. I was hoping the Eagles won, because I used to follow them. Now we just have to put up with Eagles fans which are unique. The commercials I saw were ok. I liked the pringles commercial.

I'm out of touch with music these days so I don't expect to know much about halftime. I like rap, but haven't kept up. I can recognize some of Kendrick's stuff but not a huge fan. His stuff feels a bit monotone to me. That's good for certain times, but I don't think it works on that stage. I didn't feel like there was the pageantry and wow factor to the halftime show. The dancers were cool at parts, but it got old. It felt like there could have been a bit more light on the whole thing. It didn't feel big like the Superbowl usually does. I kept expecting a few guest stars too. Now get off my lawn, I'm going to go back and yell at Fox News on my TV.

I did think it was funny to see all of the Alabama fans on my feed talk about how good Jalen Hurts was after they benched him for Tua his junior year.

Just read where it was 37-0 before the Chiefs crossed midfield.

Yes, the "charging for food" thing is a workaround, because if a church/event center/community organization charges for admission without going through all the expensive hoops, the NFL will send lawyers out. But, if you let people in for free and take donations, and/or charge for food, drinks, etc., that is perfectly within their rights, since they aren't technically charging for admission.

Fun fact: the local Elks lodge charges a $1 "seat wear and tear" fee if you get up out of your seat during an event. That's a bit over the top, but at least it goes to a good cause. (We aren't members, but go there sometimes for comedy night or other events.)

If you listen to this song you'll end up wanting to watch a certain documentary. Hard to believe that was 35 years ago.:planningdirector:
This is not a song from the 1800's. Jay Ungar wrote it at the end of a music camp season, and it reflects his sadness and hope for a suspenseful season coming up.

I can play it a bit on my mandolin. He and his wife host Facebook concerts on Wednesday nights.

Yah that is a good one.

Glad to see we aren't the only household with a zillion CD's still out. We don't listen to them directly (they were burned long ago), but we still have them--legally, you have to keep the CD as long as you have a burned copy. I don't know how strongly that's enforced, but why chance it? I'd argue that, technically, having them in a box high up in the garage crawl space would count.

As of last Thursday, I am no longer chair of the Planning Commission--just a regular member. After three years, I refused re-election and let my vice chair take over chair duties.

Yay!

However, I also got elected the next day as secretary of a different committee. Luckily, that's not a very difficult gig and I'm only fourth-in-charge, not first.
