So I was running late this morning. The freeway was slowing down so I hopped off to take the surface streets. I got off the freeway a little earlier than I typically do. Most of the roads in the area have a 40 mph speed limit, but the one I got on is 35. I was doing about 45 when I noticed a cop car stopped at a side street  and of course his lights came on and he pulled out behind me. There was another car behind me also. When the cop pulled out behind us, the other car got in the left turn lane and the cop followed him. The light was red at that intersection and I just stayed there, expecting the cop to get on his PA and pull me over too. When our lanes got the green light, the other car and the cop turned left and I continued straight.

When I first noticed the other car it was gaining on me so he must have been just over the cop's threshold for pulling someone over, and I just under. I guess.

Had a doctor appointment this morning. In that same building is a CPA office I had never noticed (no need for a CPA).

Saw this "pay rent or else" note on the door. You can draw your own conclusion. :-O If it was any office but a CPA, it wouldn't be so funny.

What bro country sounds like to people who don't like bro country:

Dontcha like There I ruined it? Here's another gem. John Denver sings War Pigs:

That Bro Country is hysterical!!!

Reminds me of the time a few years ago when my wife and I were in a borrowed pickup truck on a ranch in California's Central Valley, getting ready for a friend's wedding. I said, "I feel like we are in a country video right now."

To which my wife, without missing a beat, said, "No, I'd be wearing a bikini top for no reason if that were the case."

The 40th Parallel Marker is also known as the Cast Iron Marker. It was cast in St. Louis, Missouri and erected on May 8, 1855.To visit this, drive north of White Cloud, Kansas 2.5 miles to the Nebraska State Line where you will find a historic marker about the "Point of Beginning of the Public Land Surveys of the Sixth Principal Meridian" beside the road. About 80 yards north, there is a trail which leads up to the top of bluff where you will find this obelisk which is a monument to the starting point for surveying the 40th Parallel. There is a guest register and an information station. The trail up the bluff is pretty steep and the walk is probably risky when the ground is wet, but it was dry when I visited last week. There is a railing to hold on to and someone in average condition can do it.Our new page devoted to this: http://www.kansastravel.org/40thparallelmarker.htm (40th Parallel Marker - White Cloud, Kansas)

Holy sheyit! This guy volunteers to get sent into a concentration camp to organize resistance and document what's going on inside. Then after 3 years leads an escape to Warsaw and continues resistance fighting.

Also, a reminder:

Well, people got used to seeing them both together
But now, he is gone, and life goes on
Nothing lasts forever, oh no
She gets the house and the garden
He gets the boys in the band
Some of them his friends
Some of them her friends
Some of them understand
Lord knows that this is just a small town city
Yes, and everyone can see you fall
It's got nothing to do with pity
I just wanted to give you a call

Just love how I am walking around dressed like a pirate and nobody sees anything at all odd in my attire.

That's Reno for you. :)
I had to go out to Reno for work about a decade ago - was meeting a colleague coming in from San Fran, and we couldn't match up flight schedules, so he got into the airport about an hour before I did. He just grabbed a beer and was waiting on me - I found him and was all like "so are you ready to go?" He suggested I grab a beer and enjoy the show...I'm now thinking WTF, dude? Turns out it was the day that a lot of people were flying in for Burning Man. :D

You know that a pirate's favorite letter is "R"... but what is their second favorte? It's "C" because that is where they belong.

When the wife and I travel to Vegas, we always call the casinos by what they are themed after, rather than their names.

"The pyramid one." "The clown one." "The Roman one." "The movie one." "The French one." "The castle one."

etc.

(We love the pyramid one when we stay there, by the way.)

Or have your kids write your obit after decades of abuse:

Oh well. I don't necessarily subscribe to the notion of not speaking ill of the dead. If you were an utter asshole in life I see no reason to sugarcoat it. You and you alone are responsible for how people will remember you. Not my job to make it seem like you were better than you were.

I suddenly have a craving for an Icee or Sno Cone or Frostee or whatever the heck they're called.

There is a house a few doors down from me that I've never seen anybody outside who actually lives there. Early every morning I see a nurse show up and then there is usually a shift change in the late afternoon or early evening. Just got back from a walk and was stopped by a guy who appeared to be in good health and maybe his late 50s who was standing in the front yard of the house in question who asked me about the train schedule and whether I was waiting for somebody to arrive as well. That's when the nurse came out to help him back towards the house.

Dementia and Alzheimers are terrible things, especially in such seemingly young people. :worried:

Yes, my mother had dementia at the very end (caused by her M.S.). Wasn't fun.

I wish all group homes had these:

My wife's cousin has an Sno-Kone brand machine from the 1950s or '60s. My kids love it when we're over there but it by far one of the loudest pieces of equipment I have ever heard. I would imagine folks who worked those old machines had hearing loss levels rivaled only by that of artillerymen.

Seen at the bar during a planning conference. Not planners. Sorry pic of old man with super young girl won’t load

Sorta like the old planner 'mentoring' a young new professional - like last year's ethics case of the year.

It's terrible for anyone, regardless of age, as is its impact on those around them. My late mother had Alzheimer's, as did her mother...it's horrific.

What ever it is that you call them, that one looks shrimp flavored.
When I saw it, it looked like orange. However, shrimp and other delightful seafood flavors could expand the largely stagnant sno cone market.

Yesterday, I was on an interview panel at the library. They were having a pirate themed story time. About 40 pre-school kids running around dressed as pirates and mermaids. I realized that the library has more fun than we do. The level of intelligence for their clients yesterday was about the same as mine, but they were definitely having much happier.
