I was going to say "lucky you" for being 4 blocks away, but I realized that you have sub-zero weather, snow storms, and lotsa snow.
For whatever reason, we Gothamists hardly ever get that anymore...

On a related note - Sunday morning I decided to go for a walk to get a hot cup of fat and sugar from Starbucks in the sub-zero temps. I could have walked to the one just a couple blocks from my house but the weather was crisp but pleasant and I had some music I wanted to listen to so I decided to walk to the one in our downtown. It's only about a mile and a half but with many layers and many patches of uncleared sidewalk, it was slow going. Just as I got about 50 yards from the store the battery on my phone died thanks to the combination of the cold weather and my old crappy phone. I was planning to use the app on my phone to pay but that wasn't going to happen. I didn't have my wallet with me and then I got up to the store and there was a sign that their register were down and I could only pay with the app anyway. I went inside to warm up and timidly asked if they had a phone charger I could use so I could get my phone working and order a drink. The guy pulled out a box with tons of plugs and various charging cables that people had left behind in the store. I hung out long enough to get a good charge on my phone (and then made sure to carry it in a pocket much closer to my body for the return walk home). I had enough juice in the phone to let me continue the playlist.

...When I started on my walk in the morning I had John Cale's Big White Cloud stuck in my head so I used Spotify to feed me a playlist based on that and it gave me some true deep cut gems. Some of the standouts:

Holy moly this is amazingly good. It's both a well-done tribute to Jim Morrison and a comedy sketch. And now I'm trippin'.

I left my laptop in my Jeep in my unheated garage overnight. When I plugged it in this morning it sounded like a garage door trying to open with a broken chain mechanism. Oops!

Seems to be doing fine now though.

The CM heard that the schools here had a 2 hour delay and texted me to ask how the schools in the UP would react. I responded that they would post "The cafeteria will be serving Pizza and a Fruit Cup for lunch and that cheer leading tryouts will be in the gym after school."

I have a buddy that works for his family's tire business which consist of 3 retail locations and a wholesale tire distribution center. I started paying attention to the tires that they were using on their company vehicles. I noticed that there wasn't a particular brand that was dominate and I saw 2 brands that they didn't carry. I asked and they run take off's on all their vehicles. They get folks with new vehicles that want to change wheels or tires and the ones they are replacing are perfectly good tires.

This is also a great way to pick up bike tires and saddles, sometimes pedals, if you aren't choosy. Most shops have a bin if you ask.

My kids have never been to an Olive Garden but my youngest saw a commercial for the chain yesterday and was especially intrigued by the breadsticks. My wife says she's been talking about Olive Garden breadsticks all morning. I guess a trip to the OG should be on our agenda soon.

Yesterday I thought it was Monday and had a super awesome cool moment when I tried to go into the base grocery store but at the last minute realized it was closed because it was Monday. So instead I was super cool and for some reason decided to enter the building through the employee entrance. There were two employees there staring at me and I said, "is the store open?" They responded, "Yes...you do realize you entered through the employee entrance, right?" To which I gracefully and in a super cool manner said, "Ah yes, I thought it was Monday."

Some days I think I have my sh!t together and then something like that happens.

How much slack do you have to get creative with titles? You could go for a few different genres/target audiences to start...

Romance - 'The Lines We Can't See But Never Cross'

Plain-Speak - 'The Complete and Comprehensive Guide to All of the Things You Can't Do on Your Land (No Matter How Much You Think of Yourself as a Model Citizen)'

I never got any calls but those BAS's were way more confusing than they should have been.

Since they didn't replace you with a real planner, going to be a bunch of those, probably huh? Have a good time with ...... all of that!

Do not. I repeat. Do not work for free. If they want the answers tell them you'll come up with a simple consulting contract. Think about it. Why would you do something for free that you were being paid for 2 weeks ago? Plus from what you've said with not replacing your position they'll keep calling if they know you'll do it for free. Do it or don't do it but don't do it for nothing.
