Sporadic/Special purpose (i.e., used as filler if a show if off in a given week, or we are traveling on the road somewhere and listening in the car, and my wife doesn’t like my “boring” podcasts):
Run Fool!
Crime Junkie
Car Talk (yes, it’s been off the air for years, and the cars are outdated, but the wit is timeless)

I've been listening to podcasts for 20 some years now. Most of what I listen to is focused on politics/current events or pop culture. Here's some highlights of what I currently subscribe to:

  • 60 Songs That Explain the '90s/2000s
  • BBC Global News Podcast
  • KCRW Left, Right & Center
  • NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour
  • Stuff You Should Know/Stuff You Missed in History Class
  • GD Politics
  • Hang Up and Listen (from Slate)
  • Political Gabfest (from Slate)
  • Today Explained (from VOX)
  • Today's Top Tune (from KCRW)
  • NPR's Sources and Methods
  • Hit Parade (from Slate)
  • What Next (from Slate)
I also really like "The Runcast" from KEXP which is a biweekly running playlist that comes out usually May through September. I listen to that when I run and often go back an re-listen to older episodes.

During the football season I really like CBS's Fantasy Football Today podcast as well.

I save my Wednesdays for planning-related podcasts.

I think "Upzoned" has flown the coop. There hasn't been a new show in months. :-(

I used to listen to "Talking Headways," but I didn't find it compelling after a six-month trial.

What are these podcasts that you speak of ? How do you find them ?, is there a subscription cost ?, are they only audio ?

Well, it is not like your current listening device...
