Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Tuesday

1. Three day work week before a little road trip.
2. I had an opportunity to be Horse Security at Churchill Downs but couldn't because of my road trip. Maybe next year.
3. Our bike ride this evening includes burgers but no milk shakes.
4. I prefer malts to shakes.
5. I'd love to take a nap now. Napping is my work at home temptation.
 
1) Slept decent last night for the first night in a while.

2) Windy today - almost lost part of the packet of stuff I was delivering as I was blown across the parking lot.

3) No clue what I'm going to cook for dinner.

4) Another off site meeting tomorrow. At least this one's near my house.

5) Hubby is stressed. Hubby is grumpy when he's stressed. Hubby is not happy to be around right now.
 
1-so how can you call it a reality show if they're all scripted
2-I've been told one of the us marshals killed in charlotte yesterday was from here
3-budget numbers are very tight, but the council seems to be keeping COLA & merits in place
4-I didn't realize how different German pedicures were until dandy shared hers today
5-The Girl has one more exam & she's done with undergrad
 
1. Should apply for a new certification but don't want to have to study for the exam.
2. Finished a decent book about Army nurses in Vietnam.
3. Made me think of the old show China Beach.
4. I hope everyone knows those aren't really my toes.
5. Need a new book to read.
 
1) Crazy busy day - lots of calls, emails, and fires to put out.

2) Local city didn't deposit an application check. It's been 5 months. Our accounting dept is very frustrated and confused over this lack of action.

3) I am opening a new bottle of wine tonight.

4) Lots of plans this weekend. Also just realized it's Cinco de Mayo on Sunday! :cheers:

5) Had a client meeting this morning that went really well. I was pleasantly surprised. I had to give them no great news, so I was expecting a bit more pushback.
 
1-doughnuts are great, but too many give me a tummy ache
2-council meeting shouldn't take long tonight, but there's a councilman who'll not let that happen
3-our office is on a one way street & there's someone going the wrong way on it at least twice a week
4-I need to go buy Mothers Day cards
5-The next 45 days are going to very interesting in the direction of our lives and finances.
 
1. I saw some yummy looking green berries on a bush and ate them. Now I have a tummy ache
2. I wanted to join the Forestry Service at one point. Briefly. But then I decided not to. For reasons.
3. Scotch just isn't my thing. I wish I could be all suave and sophisticated and afford to order a bottle of Laphroaig 16 year old reserve but....nah
4. Gotta get the peppers and tomatoes transplanted. Shoulda done it this past weekend
5. Five things are an awful lot of random
 
1) I've had a headache all day. Advil has kept it from exploding in my head, but it makes my day overall sucky.

2) It's 90 degrees outside already.

3) I may leave a smidge early today (see #1).

4) Had to drop off a final plat for signatures today. Circled the building twice before a spot was available.

5) Had a good meeting this afternoon re: construction at a current school, and don't have much else to do with that until the permit's issued!
 
1) I did good and went home after the meeting last night. I didn't leave until 11:30 PM. I have another night meeting on Thursday. I might take a 1/2 day on Friday.
2) I think that the NHL team will have a good fanbase in Utah.
3) Oldest is going through driver's training next month. I don't have a lot of concern about it. Maybe I should?
4) Not sure how I feel about the Swiss Army Knife not having a knife in it. Seems wrong.
5) I have been contacted by other staff in 3 other communities asking "What Happened" in regards to the project that was denied last night.
 
1. Agree with michaelskis (2) above.
2. Wife turns 50, tomorrow.
3. 27th anniversary on Friday (dinner at Sundance).
4. Mother's day on Sunday.
5. Wife came home from OR with four small butterfly tattoos (niece has her own shop) representing our three boys and the boy we lost.

1. I'm going to a funeral viewing today. I'll dress respectfully. I'm surprised that a lot of people dress very casually.

2. During staff meeting, I (silently) assigned insect values to people's faces. I saw an ant, caterpillar, lady bug and a tarantula before I had to participate. Ok. Tarantula is an arachnid, but you know what I mean.

3. May is passing by a lot faster than April did.

3. I took a good nap instead of eating lunch. It's a benefit of working at home.

4. I can't help proofreading everything I read.

5. I haven't watched the Kentucky Derby for a few years.
 
1. Tickets to/from US/Europe are EXPENSIVE this summer.
2. Anyone know where I can sell some plasma?
3. Our bird feeder is popular.
4. Still waiting on my Mother's Day card. :worried:
5. Trying to convince Hubby that we need a few kittens. Itty Bitty and I have names picked out already.

3. CC contemplating 3% raise across the board.
4. Switching to a new review/permitting program.
5. Still running the heater in the office but 72 outside.
 
1. Made brownies in a cupcake tin and may never go back.

3. We like to call it Thoup.
4. 74 during the day is the perfect temperature.
5. Got new sneakers. Yay!
 
1-I found an old post-it-note that I wrote about places to see in Minneapolis, I think we hit most of them
2-Mrs. P is going to be busy tonight, so I think I'll go to the baseball game for a few innings
3-as it looks right now, it'll be a very busy midsummer on the family side of things
4-on top of a restless night, a heavy lunch makes me want to take a nap even more
5-there's a car alarm going off in the parking lot near my window, repeatedly - it stops and picks right back up. MAKE IT STOP!
 
1) Had to punt an issue up the ladder. Client wants to do something "the way we've always done business with them", but our new-ish owners don't do business that way. I don't get paid enough/my title isn't high enough to deal with the tone she's using.

2) Dad got a new TV and remote. Hubby tried to program it while on the phone with dad. It didn't go well, and now dad's having to ask for assistance from the tech people at his facility.

3) I don't think the fallout of #2 will mean we're out of the will.

4) Sister's broken wrist is healing nicely.

5) Stars:hockey: and Mavs:basketball: play alternating nights starting tomorrow night. Tonight's the last open night for a while without a game to watch!
 
1. My car repair only cost $50!
2. The spring blossoms smell so sweet this afternoon.
3. Last year, the church next door removed a lot of honeysuckle and mock orange. Joke's on them.
4. There's a nest of house finches under the awning across from my front door. The mother bird is used to me and doesn't fly off every time I walk by.
5. I'm practicing mandolin on my side porch this afternoon. I RJ'd after an eye doctor appointment.
 
1) Our PW Director gets frustrated with the number of geese that congregate on the front lawn at City Hall. I am going to suggest a button that we can hit to activate the sprinkler system to help keep them off the grass.
2) Tomorrow I need to get up at 3:15 AM to catch a flight that departs at 6:00 AM to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, then a second plane to the Land of Beer and Cheese, to rent a car to get to my dad's house. Oh, and I have a night meeting tonight!
3) My oldest starts driver's training in a couple of weeks. It got me thinking about when I learned to drive. I was 12 and it was in a 1960's International Harvester truck that was converted into a deer hunting dune buggy.
4) The hydrangea plants in front of my house are doing amazing already. My kids say the flowers remind them of cotton candy.
5) I have a smooth spot on my space bar from where my left thumb hits it.

3. I have another liberal in law that is, apparently, metaphorically into "hang in there" cat posters. As an example, this in law just loves those Be Kind lawn signs. Always going on about how we need to be kind to others. Then one recent week end, this in law learned that a grand child was not taking a certain kind of school class next year and told that grand child - to the child's face - that the child was making a big mistake

4. I have a family member that continues to clown me and is clueless that I can detect said clowning

5. Bereft is a good, apt term these days

1) Several people were petting my peeve on my drive in today. When it's raining, turn on your headlights! This applies double to grey, blue, and black vehicles.

2) Had a very nice birthday dinner last night, and our waiter was the best we've had in a while.

3) I'm loving the new flooring in our living room and office! Wish I could have done the bedrooms too, but small victories are still victories.

4) I need to start organizing some of my trip essentials, to see what I've got and what I still need.

5) Wish my plane left this week. I'm ready to get outta here!
 
1. I usually try to rent a car to take vacation to put miles on someone else's vehicle
2. Rentals company prices of minivans are outrageous (minivans work the best)
3. Turo has some enticing options
4. Most have at least 2000+ miles which works for me
5. Now to pin down vacation time
 
1. FINALLY a day with sunshine.
2. Summer vacation plans are coming together. 🏖️
3. Need to buy a bucket of sunblock.
4. Itty Bitty's soccer season is over. She had a mostly good time.

1. Daughter's commencement is tonight.
2. Door's open at 6 PM and she said some family's are getting there at 1 PM to get in line.
3. That's a big no thank you for us.
4. She wants to plan dinner after with her best friend and her family but we have no idea how long it will take, so we can't really make reservations.
5. Dropped about $300 on 5 of us at dinner last night for my other daughter's 21st b-day dinner. 2 apps, 5 entrees, and 6 adult beverages total.

I too am tired, but for it it is not drug induced. Mine was the result of staying up until 1:00 AM to find out if my boss was going to get fired or not and then broken sleep due to stress.

I don't have a vegetable garden, but I do a checkerboard pattern in my tall fescue that I like to walk around on barefoot.

This is true. The National Weather Service has also created a Heat Risk Index Map to help people understand the changing ways that heat affects us.
 
1- so let's see how long it takes to pass the budget at council tonight
2- ordered 24 floor mats from Lowes for a special promotion & they are being delivered in groups of 4, 11, 7 & 2 - the 4 arrived today
3- Looney Tunes is on Boomerang @ 6:00 am so I watch it while I'm getting ready for work - it's better viewing than the local news
4- saw a car during lunch that had a tosu sticker on it & a personalized license plate HINKLE1 - for a second I thought hink might have moved south
5- got a decent price on plane tickets for August, but the car rental prices are higher now.
 
1. My jaw hurts from stress.
2. Animal cruelty stinks.
3. Survived a birthday party with seven 9-10yo girls.
4. Made a pretty good party playlist.
5. Playlist was unappreciated by the preteens.
 
1 - had a shooting here yesterday near our project site, it was not a random one
2 - plans changed so we aren't leaving today for a trip
3 - The Girl has a playlist called 'dads car' & its mostly classic rock
4 - we have a new ACM starting this week
5 - the new planning board member likes to be overly involved & its annoying to me & the chair.
 
1) Woke up with a headache and a crick in my neck. It's been a long day.

2) Got several new projects, and not one of them will be easy.

3) After all the hassle he gave me about getting the floors done, now Hubby's all "maybe we should look into getting the bedrooms done too".

4) Father's Day weekend - we're taking both our dads out to dinner. Reservations made, only have to do it once rather than twice.

5) I'm ready for my trip! Zip the suitcase and go!
 
1. Daughter's grad party on Saturday was a success.
2. Historical commission meeting tonight
3. Having issues with one of our contracted trade inspectors
4. I need to find a new hobby now that my kids are done with school.
5. I think I'll take the summer to figure that out lol
 
1- the water main tie-in was last night & I got home @ 1:00 am (since I'm overseeing the downtown project, I was there)
2- back in the office @ 7:30 this morning & dealing with the remaining work for the tie-in today
3- taking tomorrow off
4- both my mom & my in-laws have their thermostats set at 80

1. I've been working on project resumes most of the day. My eyes might be bleeding.
2. I feel like I'm being overly edited today and have to remember that editing makes a quality document.
3. We found a nice little private club along the bike trail. Tonight is burger night.
4. The mulberries are getting ripe. When rhey're really ripe the squirrels start falling out of the tree.
5. I'm longing to get my old house back. I need to stay in the present.
 
1. Vacation week is set.
2. Renting a Ford Explorer.
3. 750 miles (one day) to see parents.
4. Parents (almost 88) at that stage where I wonder that whenever I see them (2x year) if it will be the last time I see one or both.
5. Mom fell down two days ago but did not break anything.
 
1- Teh Girl painted her toenails last night but I didn't take any pictures for you
2- Mom sold her condo in Florida (finally) & boy did the insurance hits hurt the sale
3- took the new ACM on a tour of developments today
4- I didn't but tickets for pre-season summer soccer friendlies of European teams (first time in several years)
5- great way to cool off yesterday, I waited until 7:00 pm and then washed the car.

2- US soccer is a pitiful mess of very good individual players, but not a team
3- it's natural thing to call the different flavors of Gatorade by the color and not the flavor
4- mom's condo sale fell through which she continues to fret about
5- immunity is a double-edged sword

2. Canadian soccer is exceeding expectations at the moment
3. Taking advantage of the ability to work remotely by doing a work-cation so we can visit family
4. Getting some fishing in too
5. Contemplating a short-term relocation...see number 2 above

I tend to find "move things/people from one place to another" type games very relaxing. The only games I really play anymore are in that category: Pirates!, World of Subways, Flight Simulator 2020, and American Truck Simulator. Occasionally I pull out SimCity, Roller Coaster Tycoon, or Cities in Motion, which are tangential to that.

1- camping over the 4th with our friend group was really fun
2- mom kept trying to use a gift card (that had already been used) on an online order & was getting upset why it wouldn't work so I finally gave her $25 value & told I could use it somewhere else - card is gone & worth the money
3- the pepsi delivery truck just went by
4- had a very detailed conversation with a developer telling him why staff recommended denial & convinced him to withdraw the application until these are worked out - dodging bullets is a skill sometimes
5- based on #4 above, I'm hoping the council meeting is quick and easy tonight.
 
1. Headed to Tennessee Thursday to visit relatives, hang on the boat and enjoy the Caney Fork River.
2. Wrangling department heads to sit down and figure out how we're going to accommodate new hires had me worried.
3. I was pleasantly surprised that they were all collaborative and willing to compromise for the greater good.
4. Having a solid meeting agenda and making sure everyone was heard went a long way. (pats self on back :rofl:)
5. Cabinet installation will finish today in the new house. Getting excited, the finish line is approaching.

1- took an hour or so off today so I could take mom to get her hair done
2- I responded to emails while I sat there (& played a game or 2 of solitaire)
3- a Harrier Jump Jet was donated (on loan) to our local airport & museum, it flew in yesterday
4- Cash Cab was on last night & The Girl & I were trying to beat each other answering the questions
5- I'm not watching the news for next few days.
 
1. Had to back up the Planning Department today and tell a developer that your deal doesn't trump doing what is best for the City and if your engineers would get in the required information (that they have confirmed in writing they need to do) we could move your project along.
2. Developers really don't like when you tell them it's not your job to make sure they make the most money possible.
3. Headed to Greenville, SC this week for the municipal association meeting. Great downtown, love going there.
4. The mayor announced in January that he would not run for another term. Last Tuesday he announced he changed his mind.
5. It was nice swimming in a river over the weekend with no fear of alligators!
 
1) First day at new cube. Like it!

2) Not a busy morning, but it seems like everyone replied to yesterday's emails today after lunch.

3) It's triple digits outside, and I'm wearing a sweater inside.

4) Wine with dinner? Why yes, I think I will!

5) Debating applying for a long-shot job. I might get some interview practice out of it . . . .
 
1- it's gonna be a steam bath outside today
2- there's a petting zoo in the downtown park today @ lunch
3- Mrs. P wants to clean out the garage, however there's many things that The Girl will be taking to grad school so the majority of 'clean out' will happen within a month
4- meetings, scheduling & appointments conflicts are messing up Thursday
5- I'm glad we don't have a pool, but these last couple weeks it would have been nice.

2. I watched a bunch of old Bob Newhart clips on YouTube this weekend. Much of his material is pretty timeless/universal
3. I wish I could have pizza for lunch
4. Gotta go to a Dr. appointment with Mrs. Maister tomorrow
5. Not all spices are exotic. Seasonings like parsley, dill, and oregano grow outside the tropics
 
1) One week from this afternoon we arrive in our new community.
2) I am going to eat BBQ for lunch tomorrow.
3) Wife's coworker invited us over for drinks after work.
4) I am trying to decide if I want to complete all the remaining minor repairs (ie, new drawer rails, replace a couple of tiles in the backsplash where the Alexa is...)
5) It is past noon, and I have no idea what I want for lunch today.
 
1. Third time with Covid was not bad
2. Still tired and lost some sense of taste
3. State holiday and fireworks tomorrow
4. Came back from my parent's with dozens of my grandparent's b/w negatives from the 1930s and 1940s I need to scan
5. Ribs on the smoker this weekend
 
1. IT has control of my laptop to install an upgrade to something. I'm amazed when they can do things remotely.
2. I've been reconnecting with an old friend who is encouraging me with my music lessons.
3. It's been raining for a couple of hours. Rain later will cancel a bike ride. At least for me.
4. I have one short road trip this weekend and plan to stay put the rest of August and probably September.
5. My kids and I are taking a morning kayak float next Saturday. Well, except my daughter. She's in early stages of pregnancy and a day on the river is a little too much for her.
 
1) Hubby's foot was attacked by fire ants over the weekend. It's still itching like crazy and he's grumpy.

2) Need to send my sister some stuff she got in the mail.

3) Watched the men's gymnastics last night, and some of the memes of Pommel Horse Guy are on the nose!

4) Triple digits are back, baby! Here's looking at 100+ for the next couple of weeks.

5) While the city was nice enough to put in a fountain near our office, it's not so nice to see the homeless using it to bathe.
