Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Tuesday

While Vonnegut might not of considered himself a science fiction writer, the themes are all through his writing. He might not consider it the primary point, but he has lots of books of that have time travel, aliens, the end of the world, post apocalypse, or dystopian societies. Its almost always through satire or to make some other point. His short stories are even more focused towards sci-fi.

But...I tend to believe the man himself when he says he's not sci-fi.

I mean...that's all the matters.

I remember reading Harrison Bergeron in high school and thinking what a cool premise for a story. Thinking back on the story now, it feels almost a bit sophomoric.

1. Swearing while you're in pain can boost your pain tolerance by 33%
2. Finally my Christmas shopping has begun
3. I think the leaves are done except 2 red oaks holding on but those won't drop until Spring
4. Never tried, but I wanted to name a comp plan "Here's The Plan Man"
5. The CM's Last Supper Going Away Appreciation dinner is tonight.

1) In the office today. Looks like most of the office is, as well.

2) Our program assistant is leaving. :( Personal reasons but I will miss her.

3) Mom is moving tomorrow! Fingers crossed she doesn't have a melt-down.

4) I really don't want to be here today.

5) My current favorite pinot grigio is on sale at the wine store. Win!!

1) I did a 20 minute HIIT Peloton ride this morning that beat me down. Normally I have been able to hold my own with these, but this morning's was brutal. I am looking forward to getting back into the gym tomorrow morning.
2) I learned yesterday that there has been complete turnover in teachers for my middle son's grade since the start of the school year. For the oldest and the youngest, each has only one teacher left that started the year. Based on one parent's calculations, it is now up to 90% teacher turnover so far this school year. So many students have left that some grades are now consolidating classes instead of hiring new teachers. (We don't plan on sending our kids there next year)
3) There is a black tie New Years Eve event for our neighborhood and I would like to attend, but the wife is not big on those types of things, so it is a no go. She is coming with me to a fancy work related function in the next week, so that is ok.
4) I have been thinking a lot about what I want to do about my back yard. We are still planning to do a pool, but I have come to realize that we will need to do substantial regrading of the yard to create a sense of privacy. So I could wait until they put the pool in and instead of removing the dirt have them regrade the yard. Otherwise I could regrade it down knowing that the finished level would be lower than if the pool was in, which I would be ok with.
5) I learned last night that a guy who is a year younger than me that I knew from back home passed away from COVID. Apparently he was vaccinated and didn't show any of the symptoms until Friday morning and was gone by Monday morning.

1. The bags are packed.
2. Teacher gifts purchased.
3. Kid's Christmas market tomorrow.
4. Having Celiac Disease, or a kid with Celiac is very difficult at times.
5. All Christmas cookies have been made and eaten!

1. Having family with Celiac Disease is indeed a hassle at times
2. I would like a chocolate malt right now
3. I laid out hamburger to thaw at lunchtime so I can grill burgers outside for dinner - it's 46 outside in the middle of December!
4. Got one more Christmas tree left to put up and decorate. We'll start on it tonight.
5. I got a $20 gift certificate for Panera at the office gift exchange today.

1. Saw Jimmy Buffett Saturday in Orlando.
2. Downtown Orlando was a little nicer than I thought it would be.
3. Went to Citywalk earlier in the day. How do these nerds wear their Harry Potter robes everywhere? It was 86 degrees!
4. Had to tell someone today if things don't improve changes will be made as we have options. I'm not sure they fully understand the gravity of the situation.
5. I'll be rectifying that tomorrow morning.

For some reason, mind is telling me:
Beef jerky = LL Cool J
Bacon = Iggy Pop
Schuler's cheese spread = Eminem
Tootsie Rolls = Kid Rock
Rollos = Alice Cooper

1) Got to see old friends and make some new ones at an event last night. I was further shown how small the planning world really is.
2) Since the kids are on Christmas Break this week, I went to a gym much larger than the one in our amenity center this morning. Ran into my next door neighbor there.
3) In the next few years, I think I might get my contractors license and my landscape architects license.
4) My oldest is starting to talk about what kind of car he wants. He has 3 years.
5) My meetings this week seem excessively heavy.

1) It's my Thursday!

2) Got the second parent moved over the weekend - done with the hard part of that task!

3) I'm ready for a nap. Not sleeping well for some reason.

4) I think I'm ready for Christmas - the only present left is a donation.

5) I need to wrap gifts . . .

Anxiety is ever present

I submitted all my finals for this semester, yay!

I got my Booster, and worked from home today because it made me feel crappy.

I am dying of boredom when Im not working, thanks omicron!

I wish my mental health problems would just go TF away.

1. One of the things I'd like to use my new smoker for is to make jerky
2. I intend to smoke some ribs next weekend. This will be the first time I've smoked anything in below freezing temperatures
3. An ATM ate $1000 cash I attempted to deposit yesterday. Normally I would have gone into the bank for a transaction that size, but MLK Day sought to interfere...
4. I'm bad. I'm nationwide
5. There is very little chance I will spend time listening to music today.

1. It's nice starting the week on a Tuesday.
2. Received a very good evaluation last week with accompanying merit increase.
3. Our COLA this year may be quite large. We're working through it but we base it on CPI every year so I see it happening.
4. Contacted by a headhunter for a job that pays significantly more than what I make now. But there are tradeoffs that need to be considered before throwing a hat in the ring.
5. I love music and play it a lot. But when I'm working I cannot listen to music. And I'm definitely not a headphone guy. Pretty much airplanes only.

1) Had my evaluation this morning. No surprises.

2) Making a presentation later today.

3) Did not sleep well last night, so hopefully won't yawn during presentation.

4) Hubby's cooking dinner tonight!

5) I'm doing the dishes tonight.

1. Is this Monday? No. So this week started with snow on Sunday, a holiday on Monday, & a 3 hour delay today, but with a council meeting tonight.
2. I could have made a great Fail Video from the sledding/snowboarding antics in the park the last 2 days.
3. Shoveling snow is easy, but shoveling ice is not.
4. We had no evaluations so to say. The CM just gave us all 2% with no discussions because he was leaving & didn't care.
5. Breakfast for lunch was very good. Omelet with country ham, cheddar cheese & spinach. Yum.

1. Dog is currently sleeping on me.
2. I am getting squished.
3. Butter chicken for dinner.
4. Have to breakout the sewing kit.
5. I once made a doll-sized quilt.

This almost reads like

Work on your meter

1) Today was the 2nd - 1st day of school for the kids. They were very excited to be attending new schools. Well, the younger two had previously attended their 'new' school. They said that almost all the families that left for the charter school have since come back.
2) I listened to a very on "Optimizing you Mindset" by Sandford Professor Ali Crum. No, is not wooo-wooo but shows a bio-chemical connection behind stress, perception, and outside stimulus. It was very interesting, and scary, to see how our mindset can have that much of an effect on our biology.
3) Computer did a full crash this morning. I lost 25% of a staff report that I was working on.
4) A week ago I bought sauna and it will be here on Friday. It is part of a bathroom renovation that we are working on and decided to get one for the health reasons.
5) A state conference that I was scheduled to go to this spring has now gone virtual. I really hope that the NPC23 stays in-person in Philadelphia. I am really looking forward to attending.

1. City Hall had no water yesterday. There was a water line break, but people joked that we didn't pay our bill. (yes we have water today)
2. Lunch today pretty much sucked but at least they comp'ed the bill.
3. I want a hot tub & from what I'm seeing, that ain't happening.
4. Crappy developer is threatening to sue the city because he interprets the law differently than we do, even before its been codified.
5. Our dog loves his evening walks & bounces around like a puppy when I'm putting on my shoes to get ready.

1- Is it still okay for Christmas lights to be on a house? I drive by a house that thinks it still is.
2- Running thru the cables channels I have, there’s a channel that shows the Pakistani Cricket Super League & International Friendlies. . Amazing.
3- There is nothing on the car market right now that I want over what I have. Yes there are some I’d drive, but don’t really want.
4- Council meetings going very well right now.
5- ACC 🏀 is gearing up around here right about now.

1. Experiencing a visual artifact in my right eye. Gonna see an optometrist this afternoon

3. I'd like to see Scotland, but Mrs. Maister got upset the last time she heard me speaking Scottish.
4. A ZBA meeting on Valentines Day? Really?
5. I've been feeling an urge to grill lately

1. In the big scheme of things, Planning does not seem that important to me anymore.
2. They are building a subdivision on the lot adjacent to my home, about 40+ SFR units.
3. I am looking forward to tomorrow's final episode of The Book of Boba Fett.
4. I want to start a YouTube channel that is ironically titled All the Content Not Yet Created.
5. Do wind farm operators keep records of bird carcasses recovered over the life of their utility operation?

1. My dog has taken to sleeping under the dinning room table
2. I got cornered during lunch talking about stuff I really don't want to talk about & had to be very careful not to be overly blunt about it
3. There's a person in town that would disagree with me purely on the fact the it came out of my mouth & she's on a board I have to deal with
4. 2 of 3 zoom meetings today are complete
5. Want to try to make sorbet in the ice cream maker we got for Christmas. We've made banana foster chocolate swirl & peanut butter cup ice creams so far

1) I am at very concerned with the arrangement with my special needs son. I really believe that the school is setting him up to fail so they can bounce him to a different school again. He has had issues in the past couple of weeks that he hasn't had since he last attended this school three years ago. I have requested an IEP meeting and they are dragging their feet. I asked my wife to step in for a little while. I don't have the patience to deal with it right now.
2) I didn't get a full night's sleep last night and I can really tell.
3) It is Taco Tuesday. My youngest says it is his favorite day of the week (when it comes to dinner food). We cook chicken in the instapot with mild seasoning for the wife and kids, and I make steak tacos with a modified fajita seasoning and lime juice.
4) After dinner, I am going to sit and relax. Maybe even go to bed early.
5) A memory from living up north showed up on my facebook today. It made me miss living in a big old Victorian in a wonderful historic neighborhood, walking distance to the core of the city. It really was an amazing house... but then I remembered dealing with the snow, the heat bills, and the impacts of the winter, and started to again appreciate living in the south.

You'll find that memories will fade. You'll also find that they will become more balanced good with the bad. I've been gone longer than you and have a bit more perspective.

1. Had a good weekend with a trip to see The Girl.
2. An opportunity appears to have been wasted here at work, not from this department but from another.
3. Mom is moving to rehab today after her surgery Friday.
4. We had trout, veggies and apple pie for V-day dinner at home. Yummy!
5. Had a weird computer glitch that IT even said sounded/looked strange. Documents used 3 months ago showed up as recent.

1) Several meetings today, but none require dressing up.

2) Shrimp, pasta, and salad cooked at home for V-Day dinner. We went out on Saturday.

3) I really want to take a nap.

4) I have no plans this weekend. I can't wait!

5) I really want a day off soon.

1) the washing machine died a week ago
2) the oven died on Sunday
3) the PC is acting like it wants to die
4) I best not say more on that score for fear of jinxing what's still functional in the house
5) Hi! :D

1. Was off 4.5 days last week to return home for a visit.
2. Getting caught up hasn't been that bad.
3. While off last week I grabbed a stagehand gig and worked the Billie Eilish show in DC. 18 hours on the clock. What a mess.
4. Have a BIG interview tomorrow for a job I wasn't even looking for.
5. IF I get offered a job it's going to be a very hard decision.

1. Haven't done a x thing x day for a while.
2. One of those "meh" weeks.
3. Wife is feeling the same, guessing it is just the season and circumstances.
4. City is very tense these days and expect if the occupation isn't cleared up soon we'll be rioting in the streets this weekend.
5. Played the long game and get to make pizza for supper tonight.

I can't believe no one cares about Tuesday this week! Is that because yesterday was a holiday?
Today was a good day -- productivity wise -- but I'm about ready for it to end.
I got a standing desk recently and the new position seems to be giving me wrist pain.
It's actually more when I'm sitting than when I'm standing.
I guess that means I should stand more often with my fancy desk.

1. Today is TWOsday 22022022 (d/m/y format)
2. It's very 'moist' outside to day - not raining or mist, but very damp
3. Mrs. P is thinking about a stand up desk for home, but I'm not convinced
4. Can't decide if I want to pull the trigger on some tickets, prices are stupid but it's the only time it'll happen
5. I'm enjoying my Peanuts daily calendar The Girl gave me for Christmas.

4. Can't decide if I want to pull the trigger on some tickets, prices are stupid but it's the only time it'll happen

Do it. That's the way I felt about The Eagles tickets. I'll more than likely never seem them again and I'm going to be talking about that concert for a long time. Hard to put a price on memories that you'd like to create.

1) Just came back from the dentist :grimace:

2) Had a meeting this morning that could have been an email. A long email, but still not a meeting.

3) Cousin is coming to town this weekend!

4) Falling behind on a couple of projects, but am meeting all deadlines for others.

5) When is Happy Hour??

1. Nice change to the top banner!
2. Our city clerk can be very high strung sometimes, I've known her for years so I understand & try to move along.
3. Should I work on a grant proposal or budget requests today - it's kinda the same thing in some regards.
4. Gave a developer information he requested - his response was "Seldom do I hear what I want to hear!" I might just use that sometime.
5. Decided to not to pull the trigger (see previous #4), I'll have other chances to see them, but this is the first match at home. Prices are jacked way up.
