Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1. NO ONE is in the office today; the parking lot is less than half full and there's literally only one Exec in the building today.
2. I'd planned on RJ-ing it out around lunch time.
3. On the Friday before a National holiday, it's typical (though certainly not required) for admin staff to be granted a half day.
4. A coworker just dropped by to complain that apparently the half-day was requested and denied for today.
5. I'm still planning on RJing it out... I may just wait a little longer to do it.

1) Another lunchtime call, another quick-stuff-your-face lunch.

2) ^^I won't eat on camera.

3) Sunny but breezy this weekend. Should be a nice one.

4) Crockpot stuffed with Hubby's favorites for tonight. He's had a rough week and I'm being nice.

2. Off on Monday for the eclipse.
3. No early out for me today :(
4. Sonic told me they had half price drinks for lunch and then charged me full price :(
5. Too many :( these days

1) I want a nap.

2) No desire to work this afternoon. Good thing I had a busy morning.

3) No big plans for the weekend, just errands and family.

4) Pork for dinner. Maybe. I could be persuaded to do burgers.

5) I think I'm going RJ and snooze a bit.

1) Sister broke her wrist in a fall this morning. Good thing it's her non-dominant hand!

2) Helping dad with his taxes this weekend.

3) Grocery shopping this weekend. Need to get the list ready!

4) I am late weeding the front flower beds. Good thing they're small!

5) Taco plate for lunch from the deli. Yum!

1) I never thought I would be assembling a pro/con list about the idea of relocating to Houston, but here I am. If anyone knows anything about the city, let me know. I don't want to toss my hat in unless I know the area will be a good fit.
2) Middle son got to go on a field trip to the Aquarium and Medieval Times in Myrtle Beach today. Being that it is only a day trip, that is more than 8 hours on a bus.
3) Our Planning Tech brought in home-made sticky buns this morning. I so wanted one, but I am trying to eat healthier (gluten free).
4) We had some wild weather here yesterday. Several big trees came down on power lines. City Hall has a generator so we were good.
5) This morning I booked the plane tickets for my grandfather's funeral in late May. The Town that he lives in in the the U.P. does not do burials in the winter because of the frost line.

1- been a busy 2-day week
2- The Girl has a couple good options for the summer and year, now we're waiting to hear back. There are 3 very good scenarios that could work out. Fingers crossed.
3- received word we got another $1/2m grant today for our downtown revitalization project that brings total to $6.5m in grants of $8m project
4- I did the stop mail service while we were out of town with all accumulated mail to be delivered on Wednesday, which was only 3 pieces. Kinda freaked me out it was so little until a stack of mail came yesterday

1) Interesting morning, but the afternoon looks dull.

2) No big plans this weekend, but the following weekend is already full.

3) Not looking forward to Monday morning. We have a BigWig in the office and he's a morning person. I can't handle enthusiasm and happiness at 8:00 on a Monday morning.

4) Sister's surgery went well. One plate and a couple pins, and she's off work for 6 weeks (minimum).

5) Strange weather pattern lately. But it's not yet 110 with no wind, so I'll take this version for now.

I am personally not a fan of Houston. I love Texas, Texas culture, Texas food, Texas highways . . . but not Houston.

Nearby Galveston isn't bad.

It's been many, many years since I've been there, but Houston just seemed like the most massive sprawl blob in the entire country. There seemed to be no there, there, and only a bunch of highways called "FM -this" and "FM - that" for mile after mile.

Hard pass for me.

(And that's not even mentioning the heat and humidity.)

1-contractors hit an electric line (that was marked) about 10:45 this morning - both the bakery & restaurant freaked out but had power (although they may lose it in an hour or so when the line is spliced
2-it's a good thing this city is a public power city, response time was immediate
3-the good beer selection @ the local grocery store has dwindled
4-looking ahead, the month of May will be busy, busy, busy in both personal & professional lives
5-this weekend should include some curvy mountain roads.

  • car shopping this weekend
  • work stacking on a Friday....yay.
  • need to chill this evening

4) Sometimes, avoidance is best. Other times, just deal with it. I've done both today.

5) I need to get my nails done.

1) Round Trip Air-Fare and Rental Car as a package on PriceLine.com apparently does not cover the "Fees" for the rental car from Dollar. Chalk it up as a learning experience to never use them again.
2) There is a 'staff & family' outing tonight for all the departments. I found out that only 10 percent of the city staff will be attending, most who will not be going indicated that they are worried about the elected officials crashing the party. Most who are attending stated they will walk out of the venue with their families if that does occur.
3) My desk is normally clean and organized. Not this week.
4) Last week I submitted my documentation of acheivements over the past year for my annual review. After reading it, I realized that yes, I am a badass.
5) I really need to repot my office plants.

1. Only planning staff member in the office today...and the foreseeable Fridays.
2. First turkey hunt starts tomorrow - going with my oldest.

4. Ditto for all of our attainable housing efforts.
5. I really miss Jimmy Buffett and planning to go to shows and seeing all my Parrothead friends :(

1-had to go to the bank in the town next door for mom since I was going that way anyway - I forgot & made a special trip (d@mn it)
2-there is a possibility of a trip out west this summer but its dependent on a couple of outcomes yet to be known
3-the downtown volunteers appreciation reception only had 10 people show up of the 80 invites sent out

5-it's supposed to rain tonight & tomorrow, so while the ground is wet I might pull up 5 raggedy azaleas in the yard.

<snip>
5-it's supposed to rain tonight & tomorrow, so while the ground is wet I might pull up 5 raggedy azaleas in the yard.
My three azaleas refused to bloom last year, so I resolved to take them out since they do look a little raggedy and are virtual magnets for fallen pin oak leaves, for which my neighborhood is overgrown. Don't you know: the azaleas bloomed with a passion this year - right now, in fact. I may try to transplant them now, rather than ditch them. Damn flowering shrubs making things difficult ...

I had some azaleas that looked terrible and bought some azaleas food and it made a ton of difference. Even two that I thought for sure would die bounced back big time and now they look like they should be at Augusta National!

I might try that on a couple of them, but there are others that are basically sticks with a few leaves & no buds.

1) It's a quiet day in the office. I'm one slow blink away from a nap.

2) No exciting plans this weekend, but there will be margaritas on Sunday!

2. First reading for our budget ordinance is Thursday. The process wasn't that bad. Fortunately we're in a good position financially.
3. @Maister 's post has me inspired to get a Pub Sub for lunch. That's a sub from Publix for the uninformed.
