Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1. Looking at an initial potato harvest this evening as well as some more beans
2. In-laws 60th anniversary tomorrow.
3. They can't stand to be around one another
4. Yet they're afraid to part
5. Sad.

1. Riding my bike back to work after lunch.
2. Asked to update our deer management map but don't have write access to that drive.
3. First one here and had to turn on the lights.
4. Our resident coffee maker isn't here yet, if he's coming at all.
5. It's slow enough that I had enough time to respond to this thread!

1) Walk with the dog was nice, but so crazy humid this morning. There is a chance of storms this afternoon... like every afternoon in the summer.
2) Today was the first day of school for my younger two. I don't understand why it is on a Friday.
3) Had a good conversation with a retired planner friend of mine. He said that he thought that he would love retirement, but it is quite the opposite. So, he currently feels like a high school junior flipping through college programs trying to decide what he wants to do for part two of his life. He was kicking around going to law school to become a land use attorney. Until then, he is picking up some contract jobs.
4) The wife and I are going to go see the new Top Gun movie this weekend on an i-max screen. I hear the movie is awesome and everyone says that you should see it on the biggest screen possible.
5) We are in heat advisory for the third day in a row. Yesterday the heat index got up to 108 at my house.

1. First day in office this week
2. Three day weekend (always)
3. Youngest started on the road driver's ed this week
4. Done with summer
5. Dogs make life better

  • nice weather today
  • leftover homemade enchiladas for lunch
  • working on amending our parks/schools impact fees code
  • still cleaning up zoning code problems from my predecessor
  • intrigued by a local muni that's having administration issues

1. Waited until the last day to get my car inspected
2. Humidity ramped up quick here this morning
3. I involved myself in something, we'll see if it was the right choice
4. I mowed the grass last night between work & the evening rain - the wind was whipping up and the first few drops fell as I was finishing
5. My in-laws are like yours maister.

The devil you know....
I'd rather live/be alone.

If we can't get along, we oughtta be apart
And I'm-a wondering where'd you get that cold, cold heart
Set me free - sign my release
I'm tired of being the villain of the piece

You been givin' me a bad time
Tell me what'd I do
How come I always get a hard time
Honey when it comes to you
Sayin' things that you didn't have to
How come I always get a hard time
Honey when it comes to you

You only get one life, this I know
I wanna get my kicks in now before I go
The fire of love is dead and cold
I gotta satisfy the hunger in my soul

:daydream:

1. My power company sent me a letter telling me that I use 12% less electricity than my neighbors who conserve. They should just say that I use the least amount compared to my neighbors.

2. I'll be camping, well, staying in a camper, at the PA Grand Canyon for the next few days.

3. Lunch time is about over.

4. This week has been a good week.

5. I'm glad to be off for a few days. That'll be it for a while.

1. Ate too much Korean food.
2. It was yummy.
3. The rice is expanding.
4. Hubby won't go see the new Top Gun with me.
5. The dog is needy today.

1) Woke up sick and ended up sleeping the morning away. Feel better now but not 100%.

2) Reading a book for this afternoon's entertainment.

3) Hubby's in a pissy mood so I'm staying in the back, out of the line of fire.

4) No plans this weekend, which is probably a good thing.

5) It's still hot.

1) We had to change up our accommodations for our trip to Savannah this fall. There was an issue with the B&B. So now we are staying in a historic boutique hotel near the river. Internet says it is haunted. Why must everything old be haunted?
2) A couple neighbors pulled me aside last weekend and commented about how much my oldest has grown and how respectful he is. Now if we can just get him to listen to us, that would be awesome.
3) Social media posted about a retail business moving to a different location and a national gym chain taking its place. Chamber director sent me a nasty e-mail expressing anger because I didn't give him a heads up that it was going to happen. Sad part is the retail business, the national gym chain, and the City have no knowledge of this happening.
4) I went to the gym this morning and realized that I forgot my towel. The gym was out of them so I was unable to buy one.
5) I am going to make BBQ for dinner tomorrow night.

He is listening, and learning, or the neighbors wouldn't have complemented you. He's testing his limits with you, which is safe, and not out in the community. I'd let him know what the neighbors said and thank him for making you proud.

1) Canceled my weekend plans since I'm still not back to normal

2) It's still friggin hot.

3) Mom gets out of the hospital this afternoon

4) I'm not sleeping well, so I'm tired during the day. Not fun.

5) My sweet dog :dog:is getting old.:(

...been there in ways, have comparable family/in law situations. There is supposed to be learning rooted in those arrangements. On the lookout here.

  • Start of 2023 budget planning season
  • Meeting with residents who didn't like what I told them
  • From my office window, watching a freight train roll by westbound
  • Got 8 lotto scracthoff plays for $3
  • Now there is an eastbound freight train too

As long as the public child is good, everything else falls into place.

We did. As soon a I got in the house, I called him into the kitchen, told the wife what the neighbors said, and told him how proud I was of him, and how behaving well in public increases our trust in him to do the right thing when we are not around.

1. I'm approaching this weekend with an unsettled feeling. A sense of foreboding. Not sure why
2. making more dill spear pickles and relish tomorrow, using home grown cucumbers
3. Got a birthday coming up late in the month
4. Having a tough time getting into work the last couple days
5. Xanax is my friend

1. Does it have something to do with the pickle party?
2. Or the upcoming birthday?
3.
high quality today GIF

4. Have you tried using your key?
5. Is she related to Xanadu?

  • Nice weather today
  • Plan to go to Six Flags tomorrow
  • School starts next week for the boys
  • I'm really thinking something is a real possibility for us
  • Always looking

Took The Girl back to college yesterday, she is in her element!
New CM still going well & beginning to focus on more longer range stuffs
The last couple months have been mentally taxing
We got 2 (count 'em 2) tomatoes so far this season & might have 2 or 3 more soon
I needed a new office chair so I stole 1 from the conference room

1. I have to go to an amusement park this afternoon for a work event. I wish I didn't sign up.
2. I'm hauling a kayak on my car roof for the first time tomorrow.
3. I can't put strings on my new mandolin and will have to pay someone to show me how.
4. No, I don't play mandolin. Not yet.
5. The weekends are more tiring than the weekdays.

2. making more dill spear pickles and relish tomorrow, using home grown cucumbers
1) I love good deli pickles but it is so hard to find the good ones. You know, the kind that was in a giant jar on the counter of a sandwich shop.
2) When I went to leave the gym this morning I discovered that it was raining. Normally not a big deal, but this was a monsoon level downpour that was already causing minor flooding and a flash flood warning from the weather service. I decided to run to the truck anyways since I was already soaked with sweat.
3) The work of Thomas Kirkwood CBE FMedSci is very interesting.
4) I think my oldest might be seeing two girls at the same time. He claims 'neither' are his girlfriend. It might get interesting on Sunday because he invited one of them to our neighborhood pool... the other one lives in the neighborhood and her family often goes to the pool. I might bring popcorn and watch as he learns a very important life lesson. Especially after we warned him multiple times.
5) Wife is on call and they have a heart surgery scheduled for 4:00 PM this afternoon. So, I am going to pick up the boys from school, go out get a bite to eat, and go to an outdoor concert in our downtown.

1) First day feeling close to well. Still a bit of a runny nose, but otherwise fine.

2) No big plans this weekend. Errands mostly.

3) Dog has been a PITA lately because of her allergies.

4) Mom's been in and out of the hospital. And since I've been sick, I wasn't able to visit. She's home now, but I don't know if she was released too early.

5) Can I please get a nap?

1. Oldest in Hawaii (with his girlfriend and her parents - she is Hawaiian/Tongan).
2. Jealous of oldest.
3. Fall is right around the corner.
4. Not a pumpkin spice person.
5. Clocking out in 7 minutes and then three days off.

1. I saw our (former) vet yesterday & she asked if we were ready for a new dog because she knew of some puppies. I told her not yet.
2. It is more difficult to motivate myself to walk after work than it was when my 4-legged buddy encouraged (demanded) it.
3. Small town drama can be very frustrating if you're the target, but it can also be hilarious too.
4. I was told this week the Planning Department offices will be relocated by this time next year.
5. EVERYBODY'S WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND!

1. Is it necessary to say HI to the receptionist each time I walk by (usually 6 or 7) in a given day?
2. Mrs. P's phone rang @ 4:45 this morning, evidently there was an HR emergency on 3rd shift.
3. Hoping to be down Charleston way in a few weeks for a long weekend.
4. Four people are switching offices upstairs & it is interesting to watch - 2 wanted to do it, 1 didn't care & 1 had no say.
5. I had a nice little drive yesterday on some twisty roads. Much fun.

1) I am the only person in my department physically in the office today.

2) I still have a runny nose with post-nasal drip. I think it's time for a trip to the ENT dr.

3) Helping mom with her computer and phone this weekend. :grimace:

4) I really need a night of solid sleep, not this wake up every few hours and have a coughing fit type sleep.

5) I have no desire to work today.

1) There's a serious skeleton crew in the office today. Lighter on staff than most Fridays
2) I should consider getting a real nice beer for tomorrow
3) There is a strongly positive correlation between the peacefulness of our household and the times my son is out
4) I'm thinking Mickey D's for lunch
5) I have even less desire than Salmissra to work today

1. I can't concentrate on work today.
2. Mom's estate finally settled. I feel sad about it, because I feel like she's being erased. Not that she is, but this is the final door to close.
3. I got a little bit of extra cash after the settlement. I dont know what I want to do with it. It could be fun money or savings money. I'm leaning toward fun because I'm getting a decent amount to put toward retirement.
4. I'm going to a cabin in a state park by myself next weekend. I hope to recharge.
5. I registered for mandolin lessons. My young instructor appears to be learning to play the mandolin, too. 😲

1. Looking forward to a weekend at home instead of driving hundreds of miles
2. The first college football games are this weekend.
3. Since the Orioles are finally competitive again I've been able to see them on some national telecasts. It's been a while.
4. Casual Friday has gotten completely out of hand. IMHO
5. It's going to be a loooong 2+ months until the November elections. The GA senate ads have been annoying for weeks already!

  • No weekend plans
  • 'Lusting' for a 'perfect' house that just came on the market effectively across the street
  • Enjoying the 19th century French 5 franc coins I purchased recently
  • Planning on bike riding with the boys this weekend
  • Just bought a copy of this book at a used book shop...nerdily excited to dig into it:

...weekend visit with family that has plenty history of estrangement etc. Waves of unspokens, turned glances, ho-hum half hugs and surface civility. Some missing members are declared exiles, others sentenced so.
Liberal libation is likely to loosen things a lot.

Sounds like fun.

I've a long standing debate with some family members about whether fate or destiny forces us to deal with family. I lean less toward assuming obligations to endure acrimony. I rate genealogy and ancestor worship as way down the list of pastimes.
