Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1. One last staff report remains. Doesn't even have to be finalized today.
2. I did not get around to picking beans last night. I need to rectify this as soon as I get home
3. There's a 78.5% chance I will pop some Amish popcorn to go with movie viewing tonight
4. There's a 84.4% chance I will purchase a 12 pack of Vernor's this evening.
5.

1. Really bad meeting last night. Big development project before Council. After multiple meetings and workshops, time for a vote and nobody makes a motion. Crickets.
2. Was in Falmouth, Mass. last Friday evening. Cape Cod has to be the whitest place I've ever been in my life.
3. Saw Jimmy Buffett on Saturday. Was my 100th show.
4. High school football starts tonight. Crazy how early it starts in the south.
5. I guess no one really likes dealing with major personnel issues. I've got one this afternoon. Won't be pleasant.

2. I'm most of one workday away from being between jobs for a week.
3. New gig is 100% remote.
4. Wasn't looking for a new job, just got a call out of the blue from a former coworker (now with a new firm) who made an offer that was too good to pass up.

1) In the office today but will be leaving early.

2) No big plans for the weekend other than getting ready for our vacation.

3) I really want to ignore my email for a while, but that would really tick off my boss.

4) Looked at more resumes last night.

5) I really need this upcoming vacation. I am so apathetic right now about a lot of things, and I think I need to get away and have some fun time.

No big long weekend plans for us, saving for a trip later in the month.
Lunch was too heavy & too much. I need a nap now.
The majority of the emails I receive are garbage.
We have issued more permits & higher value in the first 6 months of 2021 than all of last year & also all of 2019 (not combined).
Did I mention I'm glad I'm not running 2 departments anymore...its a very good thing.

here are my five random things
1. i've been all over cyburbia today because i have zero motivation to do anything
2. currently reading "the five dysfunctions of a team" in preparation for our retreat and realized that i have made EVERY.SINGLE.MISTAKE as a new manager
3. managing is hard
4. this weekend is gonna be super epic
5. ive recently gotten into trains so purchased the Ticket to Ride boardgame...i hope its as awesome as it looks

1) Was off-site at an event yesterday, at which I spent the majority of my time sitting on a hard uncomfortable chair.

2) Long weekend! Not traveling but definitely getting out of the house.

3) Mom is supposed to start radiation next week.

4) Tired. Will RJ for a nap soon.

5) Dog started new kibble yesterday. So far so good!

oof 2 departments!? i chuckled at the email comment because lord knows thats the truth

Ticket to Ride is indeed fun. It would be more fun if my son didn't win quite as frequently. :p
i got it for me and my bf, he is very indulgent with my newfound Train fanaticism

To "RJ" is to leave work early.

This is reference to long-time poster whom is now retired and living his life far away from the public spectacle.

1) This week was a mess. Lets hope for stability next week.
2) The Planners Webcast today was really good.
3) I am doing the opposite of an RJ today... I am working late.
4) Is it bad when your flow chart includes a Venn Diagram? I hope not.
5) My to-do list for the rest of the year is a bit overwhelming.

1. Going to freeze green peppers this weekend.
2. Going to freeze zucchini for making zucchini bread at some later date
3. Going to harvest the last few cucumbers and make pickles
4. Going to freeze the dozen ears of corn I just bought this a.m.
5. Guess I'm going into nesting mode, huh?

1) Visiting mom this weekend. She's been staying at my aunt's due to a variety of issues, but she's back home later today.

2) I'm ready for the weekend. It's been a short week, but I'm still very ready for the weekend.

3) I bought something on my vacation: a sign that reads Everyone's Thinking It, I Just Say It Out Loud.

4) I have a headache. I woke up with it, so I hope this second cup of coffee helps it go away.

5) Next week looks busy.

1) Found a protein based peanut butter trail mix that is really good.
2) I have a commercial building owner breathing down my neck because the building inspectors are being heavy handed. However today they did an inspection and found the HVAC drain lines were the wrong size and instead of coupling joints, they used duct tape, for plumbing that was to be in the walls. I was quick to contact the building owner about that one...
3) The oldest decided to play soccer this year. Because we knew nothing about the game, we watched a bunch of European matches. I have come to realize that it is kind of like hockey for people who can't take a hit.
4) Ordered a new out-door security camera that will get mounted to face the driveway. With the recent vehicle break-ins and thefts, I think it is time. We might also switch out the standard spot lights for motion lights.
5) We have a tree in the front yard that grew almost 3 feet this year. Now if I can just get the trees on the side and back to grow that fast.

1. Just when I thought the grass mowing might slow a bit TS Mindy comes by and deluges us with plenty of water yesterday.
2. It did dry enough to mow last evening. I hate mowing on Saturday. Those days are too precious to spend cutting grass.
3. Tensions with the county and us are at pretty much an all time high. It's not particularly fun.
4. I'll never ever understand how public health became so political.
5. I'm in the mood to eat a serious amount of ice cream. I probably won't, but I really want to.

5/ There are a lot of moving pieces right now in my life.
4/ Going to a classic car show tomorrow, more for relaxation than anything else - plus a couple friends have cars they're showing.
3/ Soccer is the best game and you have to take a hit - there's a lot of physical contact, but at least the ball isn't extremely hard rubber.
2/ Our city attorney used to be in private practice, but now is a city employee. He can be verbose. We tell him the city doesn't pay him 'by the word' anymore.
1/ Go Bucs!

It's been a tough week with lots running through my head

Surprisingly I had no night meetings this week, but I did have a 7:00 am Rotary presentation

A car purchase debate has come up and I'm trying to delay it for a year or so

Our fall festival has been postponed until mid May 2020 - we made sure we didn't say cancelled

Weekend plans include mowing

1) Have a front runner for the open position - now to start the process with HR.

2) Coworker is having some serious family issues. I pray that she and her family make it through.

3) Hubby is in a good mood because Football:football: Season is back.

4) I'm not thrilled with coming to the office 3 days in a row. I need to re-think this strategy.

5) Grapefest this weekend! There will be :wine::wine::wine::wine::wine::wine: and some food.

This Friday is sorta Wednesday sorta deal, given we have to work tomorrow (and possibly Sunday) for the open house followed by the move. I'm not thrilled.
Everything that's going to the new joint is ready.
The phone - mercifully - is not ringing off the hook.
The grass needs mowed at home, but it may have to wait until Monday.
I look ... dignified ... in my new photo ID. One might substitute "old", as well. At one's peril. ;)

1, Visited the MD/NP this morning for an injury I had a few months ago.

2. While I was there, I got a shingles vaccine. I now have a slight headache, and I'm thinking about calling it quits early, going home, and taking a nap. This still beats shingles.

3. I swapped out my old mechanical keyboard at work with a new one. Epomaker SK96S with thick PBT keycaps and clicky Gateron blue optical switches. The keys make a satisfying "thock" sound. Still, it's a lot quieter than I thought it would be, although I still had to put o-rings on the spacebar and the longer keys. The feel comes close to that of an Apple IIGS keyboard, which was one of my favorites from years ago.

4. I also bought my nixie clock to work. The kittens are getting more destructive by the day, and my cube is a much safer spot for it than anyplace in our house.

5. Not just mowing this weekend, but also aerating and overseeding. I hope.

1. Got front desk duty. First time since covid officially. I'm a bit rusty
2. We only got watermelon twice this whole summer and the last time barely managed to eat half
3. It definitely feels like a seasonal transition is underway
4. Funny how things tend to go in streaks....or maybe we just notice patterns among random noise because we're actually looking for them.
5. My dog is nice. To people, that is. Other dogs, not so much.

1. I called the dealership to get some warranty work done; they can't give me a loaner for 3 weeks! (I'll wait.)
2. Looking at project management software but will likely just end up using what we have.
3. The fall tv lineup is about to start and my husband and I are currently not in the same state. Since we watch the majority of our shows together (we have similar tastes, luckily), I am debating between scheduling to watch our shows on the same night and then discussing over the phone OR saving them all on the dvr and watching them together later. Maybe a hybrid situation with already established shows and new shows being watched in a different format.
4. The last 15 minutes of the day seem extremely slow today.
5. Going to look at yet another house tonight. This one is totally different than the others we've been considering.

1) Pain... lots of pain. I pulled my back out overdoing it during a workout a little more than a week ago. Yesterday was the first core/back workout since then and today I am having problems moving.
2) I have an after-work site inspection today.
3) I don't know why Amazon or some of these other companies even bother with anticipated delivery dates. More than half of everything I order arrives late.
4) My wife and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary in 54 weeks. Trying to figure out something fun. Maybe New Orleans or Savannah? (Yes, I have reservations for 2 in two weeks from now).
5) A young couple a couple doors down from us moved away 2 years ago, but didn't sell their house and rented it out instead. This week, they moved back in. Their oldest is the same age as my youngest. So now there are 5 second graders that all live on the same cul-de-sac. I think that is kind of awesome to have that many friends that close.

my vote is savannah! feel better. my boyfriend is going through the same backpain issues. its horrible!

good luck regarding the house!

1. hahahahahahh

my five
1. these last 18 minutes are DRAAAAGING
2. got invited to drinks but my social meter is BEYOND the red because i hosted family for 2 weeks. i know i need to say yes but yall i AM TIRED
3. i am very very very hungry.
4. invited to speak at a conference...but, they randomly listed by speaker topic that's very race based instead of the VERY specific topic that i gave them...kinda sketch
5. i've been talking about star wars all day. i am not a star wars fan but the people around me are so ive learned enough to get by

1. I'm back at work today after two days out sick
2. I feel perfectly fine but my nose is still running a bit and I sense this may be causing coworkers discomfort.
3. Maybe I should go home?
4. I have much to do today
5. People calling me today, as a rule, have been kinda pissy

1. Still waiting on a response to my counter offer. 😳😬
2. Heading to Copenhagen next Friday. 🥳
3. Still have unpacking and organizing to do. 🥺
4. Itty Bitty loves to scream with excitement while watching shows and movies. 🙉🙉🙉
5. I made it 3 days without chocolate. It is a start. 🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷

1) Only 3 people from my department are here today. Nice and quiet!!

2) Dad's birthday this weekend! :music: (need a birthday cake emoji)

3) My mom got a new dog. :dog:

4) I'm tired. But it's only 2:00, and I don't think I'll get a nap today.

5) I may take an afternoon off next week to get a few personal things done.

1. Working half from home, half at the office today. Luckily, my office is 15 minutes from home :)

2. New job is going well, and most importantly I am quite enjoying it, and my colleagues. definitely getting used to the new context in the social services, but the connections to Planning are palpable. I work allot with Paratransit agencies and affordable housing providers, and my own Director(s) frequently ask me for insight on fair housing and transit accessibility related matters. I continue to be involved directly in Planning through a research assistancy with my school and MUP courses.

3. My Cat somehow knows to not lay on my father's chest, as he is recovering from Heart Surgery. The little house panther is a smart one!

4. I am very happy that Dad is recovering well after his surgery and the pain level is becoming manageable and he has regained much of his independence.

5. I REALLY want a 1992-96 Buick Lesabre with the 3800 V6.

BONUS 6th THING:

-I have been "california sober" since I came back from Montreal. Remember when I first began posting here and was a fortified wine connoisseur? Glad those days are well behind me, but I find myself missing (and regretting) my 20s.

Mskis probably remembers the burgundy 92 Lesabre (yes with a 3800 v6) I used to drive in the early 2000's. Great car. Great engine.
I do remember it, that thing was a tank in the snow.

1) Lucky me... I caught a cold. I have been tested and it is not COVID, so I am not letting it slow me down.
2) Meat subscription company swapped out a couple of my items last month and I am not happy about it. Filet Mignon replaced with wings is not an even trade, regardless of how much I like wings!
3) I am going to see about doing a 'test' project in downtown with our parking. Some people will like it, but an adjacent property owner is going to throw a fit.
4) Super nasty accident on the freeway on my way to work this morning. It was the opposite lane, but it caused problems on both sides for hours. It got me thinking about commuting patterns and what, if anything, I could do to help change that.
5) Some of the cars from the early 90's were awesome. The Impala SS was super cool. I also saw someone who cleaned up an early 90's Buick Road Master Wagon to make it look more like a Dodge Magnum.

Missing is fine, but regret nothing. Learn from it and go forth to conquer the world young'un.
Oldster #2's view: you should experience powerful pangs of regret. These negative emotions provide the impetus/desire necessary to effect change in one's life. Without such negative impacts on our inner life, one would never feel the need for change. Use these feelings of regret to spur you forward towards your vision of a better you.

It's only a waste if you don't learn form it. We all do stupid crap when we are in our teens and twenties. I don't think the male mind fully matures until sometime in the twenties.

@Maister : How did you become in possession of a 1992 LeSabre in the early Thous? Was it a relatives car? Youre way too young to have bought one new in '92. They were mostly bought by members of the greatest generation. Was it a Lesabre "limited" with Dynaride?

The vehicle belonged to my late mother. No, it was not a 'limited' with Dynaride.

So a Lesabre Custom with standard macpherson struts in the rear!

Why didn't you come to my middle school and offer it to me for sale? If you had asked for me at the front office they would have known to send you with the keys straight to my 5th Grade homeroom if you asked for the "Caprice Classic Kid".

1) It has been hinting at rain the past couple of days, but it hasn't been enough to actually soak into the ground. Most of what has landed evaporates before reaching anything below the surface.
2) Work is doing a Maintain Don't Gain Challenge and I am not sure how I feel about it. It is strictly a "maintain your current weight" but I am working to put on more muscle. So if I gain muscle and lose a little fat I will be healthier but could end up weighing more after New Years than I do now. There are things that I can do to give me a buffer (high sodium breakfast and drink as much water as I can right before weigh-in). More so while I support the concept, I am frustrated on how weight seems to be the primary factor in health, when it shouldn't be.
3) I wonder if there has been a notable decline in the use of Facebook and their products since all the news came out? I am sure I could find it on line, but I don't care enough to actually take actions to look it up.
4) The Wings had a decent showing against the Pens last night. Let's see what the regular season brings when it starts next week.
5) Tonight is the start of the regular season for my college hockey team. Not only is it a home game, it is the first CCHA Conference game since the conference was reestablished.

1. Will be arriving on LP's lovely little island tomorrow around noon.
2. Planning to consume several lobster rolls
3. I left my work phone at home today. I've never, ever done that before. Guess I'm already checking out for vacation.
4. There is a toad that hangs out on the patio by the back door. For the last 6 nights in a row he (or she) has hopped inside the house when I slide the door open to take the dog out for her last potty of the night. So then I have to spend 5 minutes getting the damn toad out from under the couch! I don't like this game.
5. How does a council meeting with nothing controversial on the agenda at all still take almost 2.5 hours? Ugh.

1. I'm off today, so it's an extra!long weekend.
2. I'm at a trail event right now. We're celebrating a donation of a water bottle filling station.
3. I'm headed up north in PA for the weekend to explore a new bike trail.
4. It's amazing how meditation can reduce my blood pressure.
5. I'm so ready for a little road trip.

Awww, it is sweet that you and the toad have a fun relationship. Thank you for being kind to him/her.

1) Stayed up too late last night. Will be drinking more coffee this morning to compensate!

2) Going to see Bond this weekend!! :music:

3) Busy week next week. I'm not ready.

4) It's still in the 90s here. Our 3 days of Fall hasn't arrived yet.

5) Anyone else ready for the weekend?? I don't know how productive I'll be today . . .

3. Mexican sounds good too
4. I lost a bunch of weight the past several months but I think I've hit a plateau

2. Or maybe Italian food.
3. I was supposed to exercise today.
4. Cats and I are sitting in front of a space heater instead.
5. German teachers are fierce.

1. My 2:00 meeting is cancelled due to rain (it was in the field)
2. Kinda been a weird week since it is State Planning conference week - its virtual and I keep trying to watch a presentation or 2 (I need CMs)
3. Only 2 night meetings this week - one was a council meeting like MDP had.
4. The trim on our freshly painted house is getting chewed on by squirrels, they must like the taste of Benjamin Moore paint - a$$h0les!
5. Got a decent night of sleep last night for a change. Hopefully I'll be able to repeat that.

5. getting my hair done tomorrow so that's good

  1. Grand opening for a new tap room/alcohol retailer in my downtown today at 3p
  2. It's been quiet today at work
  3. Working on small stuff that needed to get done
  4. Property owners can be...difficult.
  5. Our little downtown is a bit sleepy, but it's small. This is mainly due to 'comfortable' long time property owners.

1. Today has kinda quiet, but a rash of calls a few minutes ago changed that.
2. Yesterday @ 10:00, CM tells me I need to be @ a mtg @ 3:00 and present on 2 items.
3. A good friend of ours birthday was yesterday, she told us they had sloppy joes & a cupcake for dinner.
4. Issues with my car's key fob and a new one costs $240.00 - c'mon it's only 13 years old.
5. Do you ever feel like you're the only sane person/couple in yours or your wife's family?
