Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1) We are already in a summer weather pattern. Warm, humid, with a chance of of heavy thunderstorms everyday. My grass however is loving it.
2) I am trying to get back into keeping a journal... it is amazing how difficult it is to remember.
3) Oldest gets shot #2 tomorrow. He wanted to go do all these fun things this weekend... I told him we are going to just take it easy for the weekend in case he does not feel well.
4) I did not sleep well last night.
5) Our dog has an ear infection and is going to the vet this afternoon.

1. I'd rather watch the bird feeder today.
2. I'd rather be napping today. I feel blah.
3. I'd rather make inspections than review plans.
4. Today is gloomy and much cooler than the previous 5 days.
5. I'm usually pretty good at staying on task while I work at home. Not today.

1. My bird feeder gets raided by the deer almost every single night. Probably need to get more creative.
2. We've had a lot of rain recently. I cringe when I see somebody's sprinklers on. Especially when it's treated water being used.
3. I survived another season of softball. I'm at that age where I'm still pretty good but I'm playing against guys 20-25+ years younger than me but I'm not quite old enough for the old man league yet.
4. I really enjoy doing research for travel.
5. I would not be good at all staying on task working from home. Props to you @kms

A raccoon stole one of my bird feeders two years ago. 😡

1) Happy Father's Day Weekend! I'm going to pamper my dad since he's finally fully vaccinated (delay for heart issues)!

2) Also getting my hair done - you can see my roots!! :omg:

3) Next week is busy - lots of meetings! Thankfully all still virtual, but there's limited time for bathroom or food breaks.

4) Judged 7 rounds of the National Speech and Debate Tournament (over 2.5 days). High school topics seem deeper these days than when I was competing.

5) Need more liquor - made margaritas one night, and then had mimosas a different night. I might try my hand at Bellinis . . . (need a drink with an umbrella emoji)

4) Judged 7 rounds of the National Speech and Debate Tournament (over 2.5 days). High school topics seem deeper these days than when I was competing.
Are you a member of the NFL? (National Forensics League)

No. I'm a former State Champion and Nationals competitor, with 20 years in Toastmasters. I have an account on Tabroom and on the NSDT website so I can participate when possible.

Are you in the NFL?

I love to judge tournaments and mentor students. In college, tournaments were a great way to get free lunch and some guaranteed time off-campus.

Another former speech and debate team person. I've done some judging myself. My way of giving back. Things have changed since I did it as well. I was in NFL and have my pin(s).

I have no idea what happened to any of my old speech stuff. Given all the times I've moved, it's all at some landfill probably.

There are a couple of categories now that are newish, and I have to admit I don't like them as much. Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist.

1. I'm sort of easing my way back into catching up on some work things after a few days off. Sat on a beach in Jamaica, mon. My liver currently hates me. :scotch::martini::stout::wine:

2. Our alpha cat is being needy as hell this morning - I have penance to do for leaving her for vacation, apparently.

3. I'm fully vaccinated, with two negative Covid tests in the last seven days. Sooooo tired of masks...

4. Mrs. Bubba's BFF and her husband are quitting their jobs, selling a bunch of property they own (inherited timber land) and their house, and going RVing for the foreseeable future. They've kicked this idea around for several years, so I shouldn't be surprised, but still...

5. I need more coffee.

1) In the office today. So are a couple of other people. We are supposed to be here 1 day a week, and this is the best day for a few of us.

2) New-ish intern coming in later. He needs to finish getting set up on a workstation in the office.

3) Hubby's birthday is next week - and I've already got his present. Now I need to wrap it without him peeking.

4) I didn't sleep well last night. I'm tired this morning and really want a nap.

5) Can't wait for the long weekend - wish it was this weekend instead of next.

1. This has been a tragic and traumatizing week for part of my extended family.
2. My eyes are burning so I'm stopping work for the day. I can make up the hour tomorrow.
3. Working from home makes item 2 possible.
4. My sons have nothing in common. Those two are in Vegas for a week and I can't wait to hear how the trip turns out for them.
5. 4 is my limit today. 😉

No, not in NFL. I competed at State in humorous interp, but didn't win. What events did you compete in?

I was a State Champion in Extemp and broke Octos at Nationals. After that, I was chilling watching my teammate make Semis in Poetry, but we both went home empty-handed.

I started in Oratory, which I think was a good base for my transition to Extemp. Still my favorite. Now they have categories like Informational (basically narrow-focused oratory with props) and others that I don't care for.

Never learned to debate properly.

I have no idea what happened to any of my old speech stuff. Given all the times I've moved, it's all at some landfill probably.
Between my moves and my parents moves, most of my childhood mementos are scattered in various landfills. I managed to hang on to some stuff, but it's not much.

1. I have a meeting scheduled for me at 3:00 today - on a Friday before a holiday
2. My meeting last night went well - or about as well as it could have gone
3. CM brought biscuits in for city hall staff this morning - we think he's atoning for past sins
4. Going to be sitting in the lake this weekend at my aunt & uncles place - first time to see a few relatives in a while
5. Happy Friday y'all - I give you permission to take Monday off

1. I left from home to make an inspection an hour away. 5 minutes into my trip, the low tire pressure alert showed. I stopped at a Subaru garage to get air, and they found a huge screw at the tire wall. Can't be fixed Ugh.
2. It's a beautiful, sunny, low humidity day.
3. I managed to arrange a virtual inspection.
4. The car is at Subaru for a set of tires. Yes. A set. The manual and the mechanic tell me that when one goes, they all have to be replaced. I understand, yet I don't.
5. My fig tree has 13 little figs growing on it. I hope one ripens. They were different sizes as they started, now they're the same size.

1. I think the fence contractor did a mediocre job. Guess you get what you pay for
2. Blueberry season starts today! I intend to load up this weekend and make some jam. Probably freeze a few quarts too
3. We are truly running a skeleton crew here today
4. I should buy some fireworks at a tent tomorrow
5. No real plans for the 4th

1. The SC General Assembly doesn't even plan to ask Treasury for our ARP funds until September. Thanks so much ladies and gents.
2. The engine in my car crapped out and between a class action lawsuit and my warranty I'm still waiting on a resolution. It's been over 2 weeks.
3. This will be the first 4th with the pup. I think she'll be ok but I am a bit concerned about her reaction to fireworks.
4. A meeting that should have been an hour tops took 2.5 last night.
5. I miss having steamed crabs on the 4th here. They just don't do it right. Plus they're not from the Chesapeake.

1) I have zero intention of working today… but there are things that I need to get done.
2) Doing some much needed exploring of old stomping grounds next week.
3) There was a snake on the loose in Raleigh. It was a venom spitting zebra cobra and the local news was covering it like a man hunt.
4) I am going to eat some smoked meats this weekend.
5) I hope people take a moment this weekend to learn about history, the founding fathers, and how this nation was created… and no, a back yard BBQ was not involved.

The founding fathers always ate food that was cooked over a fire.

1) Guess who received a jury summons?? And the date is not a good one for a big work thing.

2) Like others on here, I'm not wanting to do a lot of work today, but I do have some building code amendment edits to get done.

3) Taking the dog to visit my aunt's new place this weekend. My aunt keeps the dog for us when we travel, so we want her to be familiar with the new place before our trip next month.

4) Mom is halfway through the second round/type of chemo. She's already weak and fragile - it's going to be iffy making it through the entire course.

1. Germans are active people.

3. Itty Bitty was thrilled to get 2 boxes of toys we USPS mailed prior to moving.

4. Hubby found dark chocolate chips at commissary. 🥰

5. Rewatching Ted Lasso for some good feels.

No real plans this weekend except for Sunday afternoon (England v Italy)
Still waiting on a decision on which direction we should go boss
Had dinner at 10:00 last night, salmon & roasted squash
I need to get tires for the truck before winter
Painters can't come if it rains every afternoon

1) On a call re: trees and the lady is talking so fast I am having difficulty following her point.

2) Last call for the day - I might leave early!

3) Going to the movies this weekend for the first time since January 2020. MCU gets our $$$ again!

4) Trying to beat the bushes for some projects to bill to in the last quarter of the fiscal year - we cut one project and I'm running a bit lean.

5) Regional approach to environmental issues is a great idea, but there's always that 1 community that doesn't want to play nice.

1. Wonder how Baugie is doing?
2. I don't usually go for sweets, but I can put away an entire BIG bag of M&M's in no time with no help
3. I'd guess about 50% of the tv we watch these days is British telly on Acorn, Britbox, and other streaming sources
4. I am so ready for the weekend
5. umm...

1. For a week with the CM out of town, he sure hasn't let up
2. I got in trouble for not telling the CM something that a councilman said he would explain it him (he didn't before he left)
3. The bad thing was it's a good small project, but he only cared about not being told by me and won't ask the councilman about it
4. I understand he's berated another department head this week for actually following policy
5. Off on vacation in a week & I CAN NOT WAIT

1. week three of doing literally two people's full time job is complete

3. I understand acorns are edible. The idea seems appealing but I've never eaten one
4. A weekend filled with drunken debauchery.....will not happen
5. I can't keep WD 40 in our house. Every time I get a can Junior uses the ENTIRE THING in the space of two or three days. On what I cannot say.

2) I need to visit my mom this weekend.

3) Ordered some items this week, and the remaining box should arrive today! That makes me happy!!

4) My boss is also not around right now. Things are peaceful. That will not last.

2. As of right now I've been on hold 38 minutes for consumer affairs to discuss me still not having my car back.
3. Big grand opening tonight of our brand new 8.5M recreation center. Still some things to get finished up with the site but it's really nice.

4. I can only imagine going to a concert again.
5. I want to leave a villain-like laugh at the end of my out-of-office message on my phone - but I won't.

1. Baugi is still in the States.
2. Baugi's current guardian asked that we pay for training for him. 😳
3. Itty Bitty has been in some rare moods.
4. Our belongings still aren't here.
5. Our budget allocation for our belongings was 30k. The bill is going to be at least 4k. Guess who gets to pay the difference?

1) Neighbor kid is going to be a marketing genius. He has a sign out saying Car Wash $5.00, then in very little letters, it says Dry Car, $15.00
2) I think I am going to mow the lawn this weekend.
3) The kids really need to get back into school.
4) I have watched Zero of the Olympics this summer.

5) The former director was non-confrontational. A local attorney assumed I would be the same way at a recent meeting and was not expecting me to stand my ground. The clerk said that when I gave my responses he stood their dumbfounded, and that the only thing that would have made it better is if I dropped the mic and walked way. It was a fun moment.

I'm sorry, but the world needs more: 1) random minutia; and 2) alliteration
Hence, this weekly bumpable thread's creation.

Deal with it.

1. I generally prefer conifers to deciduous trees. Although, I do enjoy the changing colors in fall.
2. Is it normal for one's weight to fluctuate +/- 16 lbs in a year?
3. One of our neighbors smokes. He likes to stand out on his back patio at night with his rear floodlight on, smoke, and stare into our windows
4. My lucky number is 17
5. I have started playing games again on fb. Damn, they can be addictive!
those mobile games are addictive, pokemongo and candy crush are my crack. your neighbor is very....interesting.

1) I'm hungry. The leftover taco fixings were not enough lunch.

2) I dread my boss coming back to work next week.

3) My planner left and I miss her already.

4) It's so hot the dog doesn't want to go for walks.

5) Hey - it's Friday! It's almost Beer O'Clock! Awesome!

1) At the office for the 3rd day this week. For this month, that's supposed to be our minimum - 3 days a week.

2) Dog plans, then dad plans, then Van Gogh exhibit plans for this weekend.

3) I got my ears double pierced last weekend. Hubby still hasn't noticed.

4) I get more steps counted on days that I'm in the office, but I also eat more chips/snacks.

5) Got a resume in for our open position. There are 3 color blocks and leaves going down one side. Is this the new norm?

3. Its 91 outside, and I hadn't eaten since breakfast.
4. Notice of termination denied.
5. Next time, I'll ride my bike instead of walking. And I'll eat lunch before I go.

1) Coworker and I were talking about the anxiety we get driving to be beach... but its not the drive, but it is the combination of the distance between an available parking space to the sand and the amount of stuff that we need to transport from the vehicle to the sand. The higher those two numbers, the higher the anxiety.
2) Definitions of land uses are so interesting. This next package of text amendments will be profound.
3) It is international beer day.... it is also international root-beer float day. Both will be consumed after dinner this evening.
4) I learned all sorts of neat things about my town today. Not all of it was good.
5) When someone tells me they are an attorney, I realize three fundamental truths at the very same time...
A. If they need to tell me they are an attorney and we are in a disagreement, it means that they are trying to have some level of power or authority over me.
B. Not all attorneys are equal in abilities to argue a point.
C. Law is a very broad topic, and land use law is also a very broad topic. Just because you tell me that you are an attorney, but conveniently leave out that you are a tax attorney that works with small businesses does not mean that I am going to just approve the request to allow a land use in a zoning district that does not permit it, with improvements to a lot that do not conform to our development regulations.

1. I needed to harvest the beans mid-week. I hope they haven't gotten too mature
2. A Dairy Queen chocolate cone would hit the spot right now

4. I read the Fellowship of the Rings and am two thirds of the way through The Two Towers but suddenly feel unmotivated to read further

1) Back in the office again :music:

5) I have no other plans this weekend. I need to make plans to get out of the house . . .
