This is such a weird real estate ad. Buffalo Morning Express, April 3 1892.

Also, my friend that lives near St. Joe's Hospital (Sisters of Mercy now I think)...his garage door was closed the whole time and when he finally ventured out to the garage today he had a foot of snow on his car... the winds drove the snow around the garage door.

And its still snowing out there, just a light snowfall for now. Also is the governor really thinking this is worse than the blizzard of 77?

In my area of North Buffalo it definitely seems worse than the blizzard of '77. I lived in this same house in '77 as a teenager, so I do remember, and I have pictures to prove it. In '77 there was already significant snow on the ground before the blizzard, which compounded the cleanup as there was no place left to put the snow. This year the ground was basically clear when the storm started, and drifts are 4 to 5 foot tall nearly the entire length of the driveway, much higher than '77 (which I remember as I had to shovel them both times now). There is just more new snow than '77, more regular fallen snow and high drifting on the streets, and the snow is so densely packed it can be cut out in blocks that retain their shape. My street is still impassable due to high snow, with drifts several feet high in many places, too high for plows to come through. Even our neighbor with the pickup and snow plow blades hasn't gotten past the front of his driveway.

They are predicting another 4-8 inches overnight tonight, but its supposed to be fluffy snow so in the larger scheme of things it shouldn't make much of a difference at all. Airport weather station is already over 99 inches for the season. For comparison, our neighbor Rochester has only 9 inches of snow so far.

New York Times:
According to the U.S.G.S., “moderately frequent” quakes occur in southern Ontario and western New York, with reports dating back to 1840. The largest, which was magnitude 4.8, happened in 1929 near Attica, N.Y.

Not all Skinheads are Racist. Buffalo happens to be home to the best Skinhead band in America right now - Violent Way!!!

Don't let the look fool you, these are not Jimmy Griffin's kind of people ;)

They're not skins, but I think you'd like Every Time I Die. Unfortunately, they broke up last year.

Grain Assault, too, if you like punk with female leads.

What then is a skinhead? Back of their jacket states otherwise.
I was trying to say that ETID weren't skins, but they were part of a larger fill-in-the-blank-core scene in Buffalo. Old school oi (like what Violent Way plays) has a sound that's cleaner and closer to garage rock, but I still put it in a broader hardcore "Maximumrockandroll" category along with harder punk, metalcore, grindcore, death metal (Cannibal Corpse!), and the like.

Violent Way does have a kind of Buffalo sound. It's hard to describe, maybe like it feels right if I'm driving on the 190 between the 90 and downtown. Anyhow, I approve.

For what it's worth, just about every skin I met was anti-racist. Lots of straight edgers, and just otherwise normal men and women.

And this is why there's zoning.

"Mister Southwark, I would like to point out that wooden structure next to the chimney on the far right. I have been in-formed by several gentlemen of the ut-most character that the assembly of irregular North Tonawanda lumber and rusted Spanish nails is, indeed, your house. Jocularity!"

"Farnsworth, good sir, while my calling-card clearly states my address is on Delaware Avenue, and not among the Papist potato eaters that lay beyond this fine manu-factory of pure smoke and soot, leading business-men of this fine community have told me that house next to the rail-road tracks is your domicile. Jocularity!"

You were at the ER because something was broken? (What your emoji indicates...)
Hope it's not too serious!
Really, cellulitis on my face that grew exponentially over the past couple of days. I look like I had a stroke.

Reminds me of a Fringe episode that took place in the alternate universe. Mark my words, someday there WILL be zeppelins hovering over Buffalo. Right after the Sabres win the Stanley Cup.

Was this ever built? 6549 Main is about where Amherston/Bellingham are, though I'm under the impression that wasn't developed until after WWII.

It was, but no housing was built until after WWII. "Northridge" is now Ridge Court North. Amherston/Bellingham/Lyndhurst/Garfield make up the rest of the subdivision. The streets south of Lyndhurst were improved after WWII.

Damn fearless leader, I already knew you were an OG but am not surprised to know you have Punk cred too!! But it makes sense given your age (which would not have precluded you from Hardcore's golden years 1981-89) and natural proclivity toward being based! passes the virtual 40 oz Yes, most Buffalo (and everywhere) Skins were/are strictly anti-racist! Violent Way play SHARP gigs all the time! Did you hang out with many Buffalo punx and skins in those years? Where were they geographically dispersed in the city at that time? South Buff? Riverside? Cheektovegas? Allentown like today?

I actually don't know many Buffalo band's from that time (the 80s) and am all ears if you do! My Buffalove is due to its vibe, accessibility, and urbanism and that's how I know it is where I should be - I didn't come to the conclusion because of pure proximity to Punk stuff. When the Buffalo scene goes in and out of its long lulls - one can always catch shows in the more active scenes of Toronto and Rochester.

Yes, I got what you were meaning and am familiar with EITD! They are hometown hero's and from what I'm told solid dudes, but that type of Metalcore is really not my cup of tea although I don't hate. I am a meat and potatoes kind of USHC and Oi kind of person, which is why I love Violent Way so much. Its not hard to imagine their music playing from a choppy copy of a copied copy Cassette in a Skinhead's bedroom in D.C. or London in 1982. Now that cities like that are more gentrified, its the "lower" tier cities like Buffalo where the true spirit of hardcore and oi! is alive and well. I'm glad you like V.W.!

This is amazing and so very of its immediately pre-crash time. Love the skyline shot pre city hall!

Hope your feeling better!

My wife likes to look at homes for sale online. She found this one and I think it's absolutely stunning.

What's the asking price?

FOUR HOUR flight delay. I'm so late yhat the train out of the airport doesn't go all the way to Ft Worth.

Ridiculous.

Might as well just drove.
I didn't have a car at the airport, as it was a one-way flight. For $2.50 I can take TEXRail from the airport to downtown Fort Worth. The last two runs of the day don't go all the way to downtown though because they only go as far as where they park the trains for the night. It's not unreasonable to assume that a flight will occur withing three hours of its scheduled time but several factors added together created the delay.

The options were:
  • Have my son pick me up at DFW Airport, 35 mile drive each way
  • Have my son pick me up at the T&P Station downtown, 9 mile drive each way
  • Or, if the flight was delayed FOUR FREAKING HOURS, have my son pick up up at Mercantile Center Station, 15 mile drive each way, at 2:14 AM for a flight that should have landed at 7:54 PM
I'm not sure how I was supposed "just drive". If you mean drive all the from Buffalo, I didn't have a car available to me. I drove up north with my wife, but I need to get back to work; she is a teacher and has the summer off and is staying up north longer and using the car we drove up in.

BUMP!

I am going to be in Buffalo from this Sunday (4/21) to Wednesday (4/24) because it is my spring break and I have unused vacation.

Any Buffalo cyburbians around on the off chance?

My mother was born not too far away, near Niagara Falls, Ontario . . . but the closest I've been is Philadelphia.

My understanding is that Buffalo is a hotspot for boiler-room fake debt collectors. That's its claim to fame.

The best Buffalo eyacksints of 2025.

(Just one word.)

I'm still very interested in relocating to Buffalo, problem for me is that all the job postings in our field (at the moment) are here downstate. It's maddening. Once my parents sell their home I will no longer be able to afford Metro NYC.

I see so much for myself in Buffalo as a future for what I really want to do (own a towing/plowing company that also fixes EVs, and restores 1965-2000 era modern classics on the side) But good luck opening a small automotive business in 2025 - the automakers make it near impossible now with proprietary supply chains, software's and over-the-air updates. NYS business climate doesn't make it any easier either.

I don't think I will be miserable as a low-mid level civil servant in NYC, and I do still think lots of exciting things are happening here in Planning, but I will be subordinate to someone else not myself.

But complaining gets one nowhere ;) Im going to buckle down and not lose sight of my Queen City dreams.
