Travel ✈️ 2026 Vacation Thread - The world is burning so let's escape and drink pina coladas

Family trip in January (likely the last "big" one with the kids reaching their 20's). Heading south to a state I'd rather not be in for activities that will be fun despite it all.
 
Just booked a Celebrity Cruise in April with stops in Key West, Cayman Islands and Cozumel. Insanely good deal and typically an older crowd on Celebrity so more my pace. Back to Maine in October. Probably a trip to Montana in June. That's it for now but will add more.
 
We went over budget this year so trying to scale back a bit for next year. 🤣😂🤣😂😆😅😂🤣😂😅😉😉😉😉😉

But seriously, I normally have a running list of potential trips but I am not feeling it so much this year. Most likely due to the uncertainty of so much.

I have a big birthday next year (30, can you believe it??😁😉🤪😳) and trying to figure out where to go to celebrate.

Nothing specific yet, but a summer birthday/anniversary trip will occur. We're due for a national park visit.

May head to NOLA for a long weekend.

Want to hit Vegas to see Wizard of Oz in the Sphere.
 
I'd really like to see North Cyprus. Probably not in the cards next year or soon, but it would be cool to see the old stuff. Plus, I'd have (get) to check off Istanbul too. I've an idea for a travelogue I'd title "Nicosia: Texarkana on the Med", all about the divided capital. I'd keep it classy (no taking sides, which loses me the objectively best title, "Turkish Texarkana") and just talk cuisine and street-paving patterns or something, maybe a little love for diverging development codes, some beach pics, etc.
 
-Low key visit to Montreal in January '26, just to vibe check it. Haven't been back since I moved away in 2021.

-Hopefully NPC26 in Detroit, April '26.

-Essex, Ontario for a wedding in August '26

-Pittsburgh for Skullfest #16, also August '26

-NYC for Christmas/Festivus

More far flung aspirations:

-Vancouver & Los Angeles for 2027 (If I can afford it)

-Cape Town for 2028/29 (if I can afford it)

-Sweden for 2031 when I turn 40 (If the world hasn't ended yet)

Otherwise, I don't plan on really leaving Western New York/Southern Ontario for the foreseeable future. So much fun things to do/see here already, why waste money going to the Amalfi Coast when I have the Lake Ontario coast? Why bother going to Austin when I can have Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester? Why bother going to London to see [Insert any band here] reunion, when there will probably be a Toronto tour date? Why go on a ski trip, when Buffalo already gets several blizzards per year?

Check out "Old Town" Pasadena while you're there (although I haven't been there since the start of Covid, so who knows what it's like now).

Mrs. Bubba used to live just a few miles from there (Fairport).

I've never been, actually, but it seems very walkable, clean, and interesting. If you go and like it, then I could bump it up my list to visit after I retire in two years, three months, and 30 days.

(Not that I'm counting, or anything.)
 
We have a pretty great 2026 planned...

St. Lucia in February.

Siting on a beach in St. Lucia in February ain't too bad (trust me :cool:). Australia is kind of my holy grail for a travel destination - Mrs. Bubba just doesn't even want to think about spending 18 hours on a plane. Hopefully her recent flight to Edinburgh and then back from Dublin have gotten her a little more used to long times in the air...

Yes, we have been to St. Lucia twice and enjoyed it both times.

My wife and I both went to Australia in college, and we wanted to have our kids have that experience. The time change, cost, and travel effort is painful, but I think it will be a great experience! We are really looking forward to it, as my wife has been planning for two years to go.
 
Alaska cruise in September.

A few days at Fairmont Hot Springs (MT) in August with all siblings and parents (each 90 in August).

I really want to sail on a freighter with passenger space from the west coast to New Zealand or Australia. A lot more than 18 hours, but I could catch up on a ton of reading.

Yeah...no. Unfortunately for the tourism-based part of the Jamaican economy the damage from Hurricane Melissa is devastating (reportedly a 30% GDP hit) - the resort we were going to go to next year won't reopen until a couple of weeks after we were going to be there (at the earliest). We'll push that back to 2027...at this point I'm just relieved that the resort company was very quickly able to account for all of their employees as alive and well.

Barbados instead for our May 2026 trip.
 
We will be on a cruise the week after Easter leaving from Panama stopping at Cartagena, Colombia, Aruba, and Curacao. We will fly into Panama City a few days early.

My youngest is quite busy with JROTC and school so it's crimping travel plans. Need to figure out something in August since I am not waiting until November for a vacation.
 
I might end up in Costa Rica in October. We have friends that have a house an hour or so west of San Jose. My wife has been down a couple of times, but I haven't yet. It will be during the green season, which is nice way to say rainy season. I heard it's good time to see poison dart frogs and other wildlife.
