NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

Food should not be political, but it is…

What are your thoughts on the new food Pyramid?

Going into detail, I think it goes the right direction. Many health people (PhD & MD) have been preaching this structure for quite some time. The other element that this does not show is the Alcohol recommendation. Instead of saying 1 to 2 glasses per day, it just indicates that the less you drink, the better it will be for your health.

The National Heart Association agrees with most of it, but notes that more of the protein should come from plant protein and seafood instead of red meat animal sources.
I'm not sure I understand this new pyramid's construction. The base appears to be on the top and it shows whole grains as, I believe, in the use sparingly category

I agree that graphically it is not clear, but that it is how I interpret it as well.

The Guidelines emphasize simple, flexible guidance rooted in modern nutrition science:

  • Prioritize protein at every meal
  • Consume full-fat dairy with no added sugars
  • Eat vegetables and fruits throughout the day, focusing on whole forms
  • Incorporate healthy fats from whole foods such as meats, seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds, olives, and avocados
  • Focus on whole grains, while sharply reducing refined carbohydrates
  • Limit highly processed foods, added sugars, and artificial additives
  • Eat the right amount for you, based on age, sex, size, and activity level
  • Choose water and unsweetened beverages to support hydration
  • Limit alcohol consumption for better overall health

You would think this administration would stay away from pyramids. It's a multi-level inverted triangle.

It probably makes sense, but it would be more impactful if they go after added sugar. Also where are the sweets, candy, and desserts?

On the whole, I'd call it confusing AF.
It has been confusing AF since the Seven Countries Study by Ancel Keys. No one seems to know what the truth is. I completely agree that the graphic is crap. The written description is better.

Problem is big corporations and personal interests have gotten in the way of real health.

History repeating itself...

Wondering if we are heading for "widespread civil unrest" this weekend based on yesterday's ICE incident.

I hope not.

We're going to see a state guard vs. ICE violent confrontation within 30-60 days. I'm certain of it. Walz is already taking some steps that point in that direction.

It's definitely a possible future path. I hope cooler heads prevail.

I hope cooler heads prevail.

The past few days seem like a portent to a not too distant dystopian future. I’m with you on the cooler heads vibes, but I don’t even know how that would play out for a man who believes his own morality, not the rule of law and international treaties, is the pathway to restraint, common sense, and decency.

The movie Children of Men is set in 2027...fyi. :astonished:

Can't wait for the November midterms. The President will lose control of both houses, and, with that, a lot of power. Mwa hah ha ha ha!

Don’t be naive, there’s about six weeks between November and January, better stock up now on supplies so you can be prepared before the tanks roll in after election day.

Or the current Administration simply ignores the results or 'marital laws' them into insignificance...for our protection.

Just be ready for the tanks. I visited a gun shop after the new year for the first time in my life. Everyone needs to take this seriously. We cannot memory hole January 6, 2021.
I hate to be that guy... but I will.

If you get one, please... PLEASE... get training on how to properly use it and something to properly store it when it is not on you.

(I will get off my soap box now)

biometric gun safes/pods are your friend, along with firearm & defense liability insurance.

I will admit to intentionally wearing a Che Guevara shirt to the local indoor range just to get some interesting looks from "the stereotypical gun range patron."

Che's "Motorcycle Diaries" is a good film. When CIA-backed operatives finally cornered him, he taunted his assigned assassin, opening his shirt and telling him to be sure not to miss.

The House almost certainly, but the Senate changing over would be long odds, unless the economy truly craters by next fall (which is a possibility)

Be sure to give 'em a friendly nod as you walk by and say, "I see you're getting ready for the coming revolution too, bro."

I was tempted one time to walk through a PETA rally eating a cheeseburger and wearing a fur coat, but I didn't.

Personally, I don't have an issue with this. I am a T1 diabetic and this is pretty much the recommended diet.

NUUK, GREENLAND—In a friendly gesture by Greenland, on Monday a special envoy from the territory offered to meet White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.

“Our envoy has expressed a strong desire for face-time with Mr. Miller,” said Greenlandic government spokesman Hartvig Dorkelson. “He’d like to meet Mrs. Miller as well.”

The spokesman did not elaborate on logistics for the meeting, saying only that it would “most likely involve lunch.”

“If the meeting goes well, we hope it will whet our envoy’s appetite for other members of the Trump administration,” Dorkelson said. “We would enthusiastically welcome JD Vance.”

There was a fair amount of protesting. I think that if ICE keeps up the full court press in Minnesota that Gov. Walz will call out the National Guard to protect its people. The feds' escalation there is abhorrent.

& now let’s prosecute the Fed Chair.
I thought Jerome Powell's statement was good. If this administration gets control of the central bank.....that's a wrap for our economy.

I was tempted one time to walk through a PETA rally eating a cheeseburger and wearing a fur coat, but I didn't.
I once sprayed a green peace protestor with a fire hose. Knocked him off his dingy. He was not happy. I was, and so was the coast guard boat that picked him up to arrest him.

Lots of protests, not much misbehaving. As long as it's peaceful, that's fine.

Yesterday, on the 5th anniversary, the White House published a webpage of the 'true' story and events, rewriting history to his satisfaction.

This along with the removal of the bronze plaque in the Capitol Building honoring the law enforcement officers killed or injured in the Jan 6th RIOTS!

& any reference to Jan6 at the Smithsonian too.

What this administration says, what it does, and what is legal are 9 different things.

In America, we kill protesters.
In Iran, they kill (a lot more) protesters...but America is gonna take out the regime that is killing the protesters.

I guess we should thank the self-appointed president of Venezuela too?

Definitely. I'm a believer that if you have the opportunity to say something, you should say something. When it comes to politics and government, silence is treated as consent of the governed. I won't be silent.

My wife is legitimately concerned that my "don't suffer fools" personality and tendency towards protest will get me shot if ICE gets visibly active in my town. Her comment was "that lady was polite and got shot... I'm not sure you'd even get to finish a sentence."

The State Department will provide exceptions for some visa applications under the new pause, but it will be 'very limited.'

'very limited' meaning - Here's how much you'll have to pay for a visa?

If FIFA was smart - which they're just greedy - they would move some matches from US to Can or Mex.

No. I like my job and want to keep it.

Something similar happened to a place that I worked at years ago. While it occurred after I left, a Planner sent a not so pleasant e-mail to the Senator or Congressional rep from a personal e-mail account. The elected officials staff was able to put two and two together and canceled a planned visit to that community because of it. Administration explained to that planner that it was time for them to retire.

You may not know this about me, but, coincidentally after a quick trip to Goodwill, it turns out that I am the 2014 Zionsville Lion’s Club Little League MVP.
I plan to hand the award off to POTUS as soon as possible, because he really embodies the 2014 Zionsville Lion’s Club Little League MVP spirit.
