Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Tuesday

1. Brought home two new plants.
2. Cats tried to eat one of them.
3. I have been making Shutterfly books from our travels and Itty Bitty likes to look through them.
4. Going to a theme park tomorrow.
5. My knee hurts.

1. tomorrow's my b-day
2. Will likely go to Amish country tomorrow for lunch
3. I wish there were more GOOD tv shows on
4. In general, the garden was somewhat disappointing this summer. Too hot and dry.
5. Been watching lots of NDE videos to see what other people's experiences were like after dying

3. The Thursday Murder Club series comes out this week. The books very creative and entertaining!

1. today is election day
2. I'm so ready for it to be over, but I think we'll be fine whoever wins
3. My daughter was tired and stuffy this morning and my wife talked her out of going to school
4. I'm ready for things to slow down a bit
5. I need to find new hobby.

1) The weather has been really nice here the past couple of days
2) Mexican for dinner tonight because it is what we do on Tuesday
3) Went to a home HS football game this weekend. It is absolutely no the HS environment that I grew up in. They have a jumbotron and some serious amenities. But then again the school is nicer than most Community College Campuses.
4) Outlook changed and now I can't do some of the stuff that I do.
5) Oldest is getting his driver's license. Next available appointment is the end of October.

1) Got a pre-ordered book from Amazon today! Already on Chapter 5!

2) Dad's got a lot of medical going on, and it's stressful.

3) Dentist appt next week. Need to go but not looking forward to it.

4) Hubby has been in a better mood since his hip issue got resolved.

5) See my sister in 2 weeks!

1. Fixed my power mirror outage in the camry! Was just a bad fuse, but the modern style blade fuses are annoying to remove without a fuse puller tool if the panel is buried behind the dash and you need the tool. Engine bay fuse panel is just plug/play because you have much more room to work, the in-dash requires undoing a secret panel behind one of the ashtrays to access.

2. I have a line in on a non running 1990 Volvo 245 wagon with a 5 speed. Now that I have two off street parking spots and a little workspace, I am finally able to take a project that I can dedicate a full year too in order to get back on the road. The price I'd get the car is a really great deal, it just needs literally everything gone over. Now that I have owned 5 other Volvos and am intimately familiar with the B230F/M47 driveline, I feel confident I can make a righteous beater out of this dead wagon if I take my time.

3. Meow, thats it.

4. I like to listen to the French language Radio-Canada repeater that comes out of Toronto at 860 AM. It comes in loud and clear in Buffalo!

5. My Camry isn't as fooked as I thought, it just needs tires, rear trailing arm bushings and some minor exhaust work. I will probably need an acyteline torch to "burn out" the bushings in the trailing arms that are going bad, so I will farm that job out to my Mechanic buddy who actually knows how to weld.

1. It was kind of a nothingburger Labor Day holiday
2. That said, I don't object to the day off in any way, shape, or form.
3. Potato harvest was very disappointing.
4. It's been a tough year for gardening pretty much across the board thanks to the weird weather
5. Looking forward to fall. Show me that sweet sweet pumpkin spice deodorant!

1) I am not a happy camper. I had an incident a little over a week ago that required stitches. No big deal, it was only 3. During the week, my wife kept cementing that it does not look like it is healing all that well. Finally, on Saturday she took out the stitches because they were starting to get imbedded into the skin. Once again she expressed concern. On Sunday morning, she could tell it was bothering me, looked at it, and determined that it was likely infected. So back to the urgent care center. They put me on an antibiotic that makes me feel like total crap.

2) It was nice to get out and watch College Football. Although some LSU fan was pissed that the bartender switched one of the TV's to the Michigan game. Every other TV was on LSU already. He started to get lippy with the bartender until he asked "Who asked for it to be changed" and I was sitting right there. I smiled and said #GoBlue. He backed off quickly.

3) I painted and installed a dinning room chandelier that we found at the Restore over the weekend. We paid $45 for it. Wife found the same one in a magazine for $3,500. I will take that as a win.

4) We contacted with a publication for a large add to promote economic development. They use freelance writers for the script and the results were very disappointing. Our PIO and I going to rewrite it ourselves and send it in. Personally, I think Chat GTP would have done a better job.

5) Yesterday was also 901 day here in the Mid-south. The Memphis Tigers cheerleaders and mascot were at my gym.

Be grateful you live in the time that you do. If it were 200 years earlier, it might be game over for a simple thing like an infection from a cut that got out of hand.

:astonished:

Long Weekend was refreshing but Saturday-Sunday sucked....all I did was sleep, clean/chores, spend way too much money on groceries at target.

I saw Merle Allin in Buffalo on Friday, the 70 year old brother of the late GG Allin. Show involved Merle taking off his pants, and afterword's, you could buy the pants for $100. No thanks! The local support acts upstaged Merle.

I went birdwatching yesterday on Grand Island with a new work friend (completely different department, no drama) and we were the last customers of the season for the snack bar at Beaver Island Park.

I am going boating on the Niagara River after work, but with an experienced mariner who knows where the navigation hazards are and how to avoid (basically stay east of the NYPA Water intakes and you wont enter Falls hazard).

My apartment is really nice and easy to keep clean being a small 1br. Also feel more motivated than ever to keep my living spaces clean and orderly, it has everything to do with coming home from working a "real" job, and wanting to be in a clean home. In Montreal, I tried to avoid work as much as possible, so the apartment became a filthy man cave.....Never again/no mas!

Groceries at Target, river boating, clean apartment -- bird watching! I am so proud of you. Welcome to adulthood!! I want to take you to Costco for a hot dog and complimentary refill IMMEDIATELY! Seriously though, it sounds like a good weekend overall, and I love how happy you sound in your current life/gig!

1 - grilled chicken legs yesterday afternoon & it was not in blazing hot sun
2 - golf cart parking symbols are being painted this morning downtown - there are a few areas that are not big enough for a car parking space & rather than painted lines across them, we put these in
3 - didn't win the billion dollar lottery last night
4 - we are going to surplus a plotter & the amount of paperwork is a lot normally but has increased because the transfer paperwork from police to planning was not done 2 years ago & can't get purchasing to surplus it out of police because it's physically not there.
5 - my mom turns 93 on Friday.

Why thank you, hearing this is very validating :) WNY Life has really been a godsend. I'd gladly take up your generous offer! The nearest Costco to Buffalo is in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Grab your passport and I can meet you there any weeknight ;)

:astonished:
Yea... that would be Memphis. But not the community I work or live in.

1 - thinking the phrase "short agenda, long meeting" will apply at tonight's council meeting
2 - why is it when you wake up a little early, you just start thinking about something stupid you said 5 years ago
3 - I won the Powerball last drawing with one of the Powerball numbers & it paid $4.00 (but I can say I won the Powerball)
4 - last Saturday we went to a brewery in the mountains that has a great outdoor space since it was such a beautiful day - keep trying to spend local for hurricane recovery
5 - dinner last night was Brunswick Stew & it was delicious.

3 - I won the Powerball last drawing with one of the Powerball numbers & it paid $4.00 (but I can say I won the Powerball)
Did you invest that $4.00 into a good blue chip stock like Coca Cola or Johnson & Johnson?

1. The weather has been great, especially in the morning it feels like fall. It's supposed to hit the 90s this weekend though.
2. Pre-fall has been insanely busy with events for kids and work.
3. 4-term mayor didn't run again, but is having trouble handing over the reigns to his handpicked successor.
4. I didn't win the Powerball, at least the jack pot. I doubt I got $4.00.
5. I'm ready for the run from Halloween to Christmas. I'm thinking I'm going to take a couple of weeks off around the holiday since I've only used two days of leave this year.

1 - both yesterday & today, my phone rang @ 8:01 am with complaints - starting my days right
2 - took mom to get her haircut today during lunch & I got the "while we're out" requests for 2 more stops
3 - leftovers tonight for dinner & that's okay
4 - this local election is getting even more nasty & personal, which is surprising because several people I know has said this was the worst one they've seen here
5 - 5 proposal submittals for our RFP

1. I gave myself a haircut with the Flowbee again last night. I bought it during lockdown and figure I've used it over 20 times. It gives a very consistent cut. In fact I haven't paid for a haircut since December of 2019
2. The Statler Brothers were a band
3. I bet you weren't thinking of snail poop just now
4. I wonder who the Great Gazoo character (in the Flintstones cartoon) was based on?
5. Doing a four-day weekend. Plan to stay at a B&B in a nearby town.

1. Pissed that new hire with less experience and fewer credentials will be making more than me.
2. Any tips for quiet quitting?
3. Anyone hiring a remote planner?
4. Emotionally ate a nutella donut for dinner.
5. I need a smash room.

1 - at least the smoke alarm had the decency to start chirping @ 6:00 pm instead of 3:00 am because of a low battery
2 - just had a gentleman walk in and complain about a store that opened in downtown - he says his wife spends too much money in there
3 - having a meeting this afternoon with the consultant conducting admin's Comprehensive Staffing Assessment & I can't wait
4 - our Main Street director is gathering candy for the big Spooktacular event - the entire conference room table is covered
5 - public hearing notice time - put the labels on the envelope & stuff it with the notice over & over & over & over

1) Got my flu and covid shots this morning!

2) Had a great time with my sister!

3) Need to do some clean-up yard work. But the temp continues to be above 90.

4) Had a good weekend - got some honey-do items done and went out for a yummy dinner.

5) Dad is having some health issues.

1) I knew that I pushed it a little hard on Saturday and Sunday while doing yard and house work. But it wasn't until this morning that I realized to what extent. I took a rest day yesterday from the gym and when this morning. It did not go well and I was super sore with every movement. Finishing the workout was not going to happen, so I conceded and sat in the sauna for 15 minutes.

2) Had coffee with someone in the medical industry this morning. While the topic was positioning ourselves to attract more high-paying medical industry folks, the conversation kept going in and out of other things. He scares the crap out of me by talking about all the "Next Things" that are worse than COVID that these R&D people need to start researching now.

3) I am looking forward to getting away with the wife for the a 5 day weekend later this week. My boss told me that I am not to bring work with me under any circumstances and that even if the building is on fire, that I should just focus on enjoying spending time with the wife along with the sites, sounds, and food of the big easy.

4) When was the last time you used a travel agent? I was sorting through business cards from a recent event and one of the people I met was a travel agent.

5) Wife said she is looking forward to me trying on my "Jimmy Dugan" Halloween costume. I am still waiting to see her in her "Dottie Hinson" costume.

1. Parents headed home today via Yellowstone NP.
2. I'm 2-1 on fantasy football. Missed the draft as I was on auto pick.
3. Always wanted to come to work in Baseball Furies costume on Halloween - I should really do this.
4. Halloween will again be lights off and out to dinner.
5. My view yesterday:
:

1. Camry is at new mechanic here in WNY. She has long been overdue for a proper shakedown from a real mechanic. I have been maintaining it mostly myself. I am getting a new drivers-side tie rod end put in (replacing one that was from 10+ years ago).

2. New mechanic (who came recommended from multiple coworkers) says my Toyota is "honestly not that bad" for a '99 and is also willing to work on the '96 Buick. Quotes me (fair) prices before he does anything, and I can walk to the shop from home and office.

3. I've had NYC mechanics refuse to work on my 90s Junk, up here "winter beater" is a thing, and there's less of a stigma against Junk. I will continue to use this guy for jobs that I can't do myself (anything needing a lift or with bleeding brakes).

4. My new coworker starts Monday and I cant wait! My division has been understaffed and new guy seems like a solid local dude.

5. Unlike Jaguars, Antarctic penguins do not see humans as a threat nor pose us any threat. Scientists are apparently encouraged not to handle the Penguins or let them follow, as the Penguins have a protective oil coating that sheilds them from the elements, which human hands can erode.

1. I had a voicemail from a guy who had the energy of Prince Valium in Spaceballs. I was tired at the end of the message!
2. I WILL continue to put two spaces after a period when I'm writing.
3. I think shopping for a golf cart is more stressful than for an actual car.
4. Development has slowed a bit but the housing market is still very strong here. Well, at least in certain segments.
5. My best friend visited for a long weekend. It was awesome and Friday's day drinking was like a blast from the past. When we worked together many years ago there were times we'd meet for lunch on a Friday and call our offices from the bar phone and tell them we weren't coming back that afternoon. Life was different in the 90's.

1. Think about the concept of cheerleaders. I mean really think about it.
2. between realtors and attorneys I'm hard pressed to say which I'd rather deal with less
3. No Man's Sky is a great space exploration game
4. The earth is a school. Our spirits chose to be placed here specifically to learn
5. The Tigers are having an epic meltdown at a critical time. Nothing new here to see. Move along.

1 - went for the poke & prod physical this morning - blood is still red & numbers remain consistent
2 - also this morning, spilled an entire glass of ice tea in my lap - glad I'm wearing black trousers
3 - caught myself thinking about the next 35 days until the local election - then what will be next thing
4 - big soccer club ran a ticket package promo for the last game of the season & first playoff game - I'd get to choose the seats for the last game, but get randomly assigned seats for the playoff game - I did not purchase tickets
5 - someone let maister know it's Tuesday.

1. I must already be one part retired - I don't seem to know what day of the week it is.
2. I just saw two mice scampering away when the garage door opened at lunch time
3. I hate meeces to pieces
4. I predict the Ukraine War will end in about 10 months or so when hyperinflation hits Russia and they can no longer pay their soldiers with real money.
5. A chocolate mint brownie would be splendid right about now.

1) Good vibes at the second interview I had this morning.

2) Celebrated with Sonic for lunch (the one close to home closed).

3) Aunt's cat hasn't been well. She's an old kitty but such a sweetheart.

4) Happy that the next season of Slow Horses has started.

5) Still trying to figure out what to cook for dinner.

1. Local APA conference next week.
2. Will take transit.
3. Need 13.75 CM credits.
4. Likely need to do some self-reporting.
5. @ursus...are you attending?
I wish I was! I'm sending all the planners but me: the two seniors both need CM credits desperately and for the two associates, it will be their first APA conference. Somebody has to be here. Will you find them and give them a hard time, please? :)

1) Verbal offer received!!

2) Dad's baseball team isn't doing well against the Brewers.

3) Hubby's in a good mood because his football team and fantasy team both did well this weekend.

4) Temps in the upper 80's/low 90's for the foreseeable forecast.

5) Crockpot BBQ chicken for dinner!

1) Our auto and home owners insurance renews next month. The local agent called to tell us about the increase. When I called them back it was like pulling teeth to get them to agree to shop around to make sure we are still getting the best deal with an apples to apples comparison.

2) The drainage tubes for my sun roof must be clogged. The rain was causing water to drip out of the grab handles between the windshield and the door.

3) I have told my youngest several times now that when it is raining, to not ride his bike, but to walk with a rain coat & umbrella. This morning I get a call from the school asking me to bring him a change of clothes.... he decided to ride his bike in the rain. I had a meeting so he had to wait a couple hours.

4) I am hungry today and I have no idea what I want for lunch.

5) I booked a family photo session for early November. Wife is not thrilled but I pointed out how crappy the kids school photos were and that it would be cheaper to do family photos and photos of each of the kids. I remember when kids would dress up for picture day, they would hand out combs and get people to look presentable. Now they shuffle them in like cattle, have them sit for a single snap, and usher them out. No one dresses up, no one gives a damn on what they look like, and the company that does it charges insane prices.

1. Now that it's fall we need to make something in our slow cooker. It's been a few months
2. Now that it's fall I need to get some pumpkin spice scented Preparation H
3. Now that it's fall the leaves need to get serious about changing. Seems like Mother Nature's behind schedule
4. Now that it's fall the new network tv shows are starting their new seasons. That's not really much of thing anymore, is it?
5. I can't remember how to play Crazy 8's (thought I was going to start with 'Now that it's fall' again, didn't you? Hah! Gotcha!)

1 - replaced the battery in my truck this past weekend - all bolts were rusted & corroded so I took the terminal connections off the wires instead of the terminals
2 - I got 13 years out of that battery according to the code numbers - that ain't bad
3 - it's amazon prime season & I have bought exactly (checking around) nothing
4- it was so very pleasant, I ate lunch outside
5 - last council meeting before the election today - should be 'fun'

1. Add people who leave multiple car lengths between the car in front of them at a stoplight or in a drive thru queue as those who need a shovel to the face.
2. This economy is really wonky right now. Parts of it are cranking and others have slowed down tremendously.
3. Need to wash the dog tonight. She hates it but will grudgingly walk into the shower; no fighting about it.
4. It is insane how long it takes to get permits and then construct roadway improvements.
5. Headed to the Pine Tree State tomorrow evening. Dinner @luckless pedestrian Friday!

  • Two months into the job and I have finally have an item for City Council tonight: adoption of an Economic Opportunities Analysis and a complete overhaul of language in the Comp Plan (not starting easy)
  • I move Saturday, in packing just MY stuff, I realize I have too much)
  • The soon to be ex-wife got a dog sitter for Thanksgiving and doesnt want my help, so I booked a trip home to Denver for a couple days
  • I really need to clean my glasses
  • This full moon has been intense... need more water.

1. Set some limits today without double checking with the third floor and I feel good about it
2. MMA is tomorrow - always good to get my corporate loot
3. I am hungry but I have Planning Board and don't feel like rushing out to get anything
4. Gotta leave work early Friday to vacuum before @MD Planner shows up for lobsters and steak
5. Going to my daughter's oyster farm on Saturday and a Rocky event on Sunday - busy and fun weekend ahead
