Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Tuesday

1. If one opens a new email from their work account on their phone, they can use the "take photo" function in the email to attach photos to the email. They don't save to the phone. Otherwise, get a camera.
2. It's been cold long enough.
3. I want matzo ball soup and there are no places to get it in my town or in my county for that matter.
4. I'm starting to think about road trips.
5. My neighbor cleaned snow off my car yesterday. I appreciated it.

1) Decent workout at the gym this afternoon. Being that I am getting back into the routine of things and focused on form over weight, I am doing higher reps with lower weight to be sure that the movement is correct. The fitness tracker that I used picked up on that and noted that this will help build endurance over strength.
2) Meeting tonight should be interesting. There will be multiple attorneys in attendance with something to say. Ours is not concerned.
3) I ordered eight LED 4-foot shop lights for the garage. I installed one of them and it is more light than the screw in panel that they had up there. Wife said that she should be able to do surgery once I get the other seven installed.
4) Almost done dealing with the rental company. I decided it was not worth fighting them keeping a $50 charge for lawn maintenance when the Owner decided that he had a different expectation of the condition of the lawn than what was outlined in the lease. It would cost me more than that to fight it.
5) I seem to be harder on shoes these days. I have had 3 pair give out in the past 4 months. But then again, they were all at least 3 years old.

1. Got a vaccine today. Ouch.
2. Black bean and sweet potato burritos for dinner.
3. Going on more than a week without chocolate. I'm fine. twitch. twitch.
4. Slow time at work. Not complaining because it will pick up.
5. Woe is me 😁😍😉🤪. I have to go to a work conference in the German Alps.

One of my bucket list destinations - any area of the Alps, really.
Move it up the bucket list. They are definitely worth it!

Swiss Alps from a few years ago.

1) Spent the morning listening to building code experts debate/lecture/argue about one paragraph in the fire code. I'm numb.

2) Had a sandwich for lunch - quite tasty.

3) Yesterday marked 2 years since mom died. It was a sad day, but the intense grief has passed.

4) Not feeling like making the phone calls I need to make. I just don't want to talk to anyone right now.

5) Don't know what's for dinner tonight. Burgers? Ham steaks? Chicken?

1- Mrs. P started her new job yesterday
2- reconnected with an old friend & hopefully meet up in Denver (if I go)
3- an engineer keeps trying to slide stuff by us
4- council is getting on my nerves
5- reading a Peanuts cartoon panel revealed that Peppermint Patty only had a dad & was left home by herself "My dad has this night job and he doesn't get home until 2 in the morning." "I'm afraid to go to sleep while I'm alone in the house so I've been sitting up watching tv?" - I never knew that

Fun fact of the day, Peppermint Patty's "real" name is Patricia Reichardt.

1) I am freaking exhausted and do not feel like cooking dinner. I also need to run a bunch of errands today too. I am going to call the wife and see if she is good with me picking up Mexican or something.
2) It has been a crazy busy couple of weeks and we need to get our budgets finished up by the end of the month.
3) Oldest is play practice all week... which means I get to pick him up at 10:00 PM and sleep in until 5:30 when the wife leaves.
4) Went to the gym at lunch today. There was a guy in there who easily weighed way more than 300 lbs who was just awesome. I overhead one of the trainers say that he has been in the gym doing some type of workout every day for the past couple of weeks. I really hope he sticks to it and changes his life!
5) There are days that I wish I had a dry erase board in my office... or a post-it wall... or a tack board that I can put a bunch of red string lines up between connections and just go all mad man!

1- haven't slept well the last few nights & would love to catch a 30-minute nap (which ain't happening)
2- soup kitchen is in downtown & have grown out of their space, they've bought an old industrial plant behind a church on the outskirts of downtown to renovate & move. Neighbors had been complaining about the old mill building. Now they're complaining about the soup kitchen going in. At least it will be out of downtown.
3- there's a local engineer that does a lot of work here - he'll make edits, then change them back and add notes to obscure pages to try to get by us, but we are aware
4- early budget conversations are showing a bigger difference between what we need & what we'll get
5- 3 calls on same question - started with real estate agent, then the secretary of the business & just now the owner of the business. It's explicably called out in the permitted use chart as not as permitted use.,

1- I bought 3 valentines cards, 5 birthday cards, & 2 sympathy cards yesterday, that's February
2- it's my brother's 69th birthday today & he says he's not celebrating it (but that's one of the cards I bought)
3- I know I don't 'own' that parking space, but I park there every morning & when I come back from lunch, someone else takes it
4- the Buffalo Chicken Bacon Blue Cheese sub I just had was delicious
5- there will be several people speaking during public comments @ tonight's council meeting - hope the meeting is kept around 2 hours.

1) Sounds like the council at the old job is trying to throw me under the bus regarding a lawsuit.
2) I have been dealing with a sinus thing. I went to bed last night at 7:30. It helped and I was back up and in the gym by 5:30am. But now I am starting to feel run down again. Tomorrow is a rest day though.
3) Looking at the weather forecast and the temp is all over the place, but the words "Sun and Clouds, Chance of Rain" show up almost every day for the next several weeks.
4) We have a section of our yard that was effectively neglected for a long time. A pop up camper was parked there and a bunch of stuff had been stored there. So there is no grass. With the weather being the way it has been, and a dog that likes to roll in the mud, I planted annual rye grass seed because it does not need to be super warm to come up and might help to create some stabilization in that area. I will overseed with an annual grass when the weather starts to warm up consistently. Not sure what to plant though. I know I don't want Bermuda.
5) There is a woodworking shop about 40 minutes from my house that I want to check out. Maybe this weekend.

1- ate a doughnut this morning & had indigestion all morning
2- there's a podcast I normally listen to which has at least one show a week, normally two - there have been no new shows for 2 weeks now
3- dealing with crappy engineer who has unrevised things, mixed up pages with other projects & submitting incomplete plans in order to tell clients he sent plans but we're the hold up - things are about to come to head
4- he is working on 7 projects with us - well he's not working 'with us'
5- wet, rainy, cold for the next 5 of 6 days.

1- FIL had to go to (unwillingly) physical rehab this weekend & it consumed the long weekend, except...
2- we did go to visit The Girl, had dinner, walked around and such on Sunday
3- project work transitioned to the next block this morning & they already hit a waterline digging
4- presentation to Rotary went well today
5- another snowmaggedon coming in tomorrow & Thursday, we should expect 1"-2" of snow (& people are freaking out here like they do).

1. Start PT for my shoulder tomorrow. 😕
2. Successfully communicated in German to a German mechanic that my headlight wasn't working and he fixed it. Free of charge. 😍
3. 10 days till vacation! 🏝️
4. Still hoping to lose those 20lbs by vacation. 😵‍💫🫤😭
5. 6 library books checked out, 20 on hold, and 2 shelves full of hard copy books to read. 🤪

1) Bad weather moving in. I can see it coming from my window.

2) My MIL is coming this weekend. Pray for me.

3) Booked our summer vacation, except for one hotel. Whee!!

4) Nothing will motivate your spouse to clean like his parent coming to visit (see #2 above).

5) I don't like it when someone leans on me to get someone else to do something. I don't work for the leaning person, and the person being leaned on doesn't work for my company.

1 - very nice to have this 'outreach' back up and running-THANK YOU FEARLESS LEADER DAN
2 - The Girl has secured a good summer internship in her field, & will be back home for the summer
3 - I guess I need to clean up my act with her at home
4 - this section of the big downtown project has been moving along at a better pace
5 - hoping the rain will be out of here so we can go to the baseball game tonight, but maybe not

1. Taco Tuesday! Had Taco Bell for lunch and made chicken tacos for dinner!

2. I miss my green sunglasses.

3. It is difficult to provide support to people when we are all subjected to the same uncertainty.

4. Met a super cute baby corgi today.

5. Me to our cats: JUST LET ME LOVE YOU!!!!
cats:

1) Early voting starts today!

2) Applied for a job yesterday, doesn't close for another 2 weeks.

3) I've decided to eat healthier by not eating chips. We'll see how long that lasts, but I have to start somewhere.

4) As to #3, I already do a meatless Monday and an alcohol-free day each week.

5) I need to read more.

1. I have to figure out how to use lots of leftover mashed potatoes. I've done shepherd pies but....
2. I'm a fairly reasonable person.
3. I'm an open minded person
4. I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me
5. I'm also an hour past wanting to go home for the day

1) Why are there food products that are legal and commonly used here in the US, but are banned in other countries, including Canada?

2) A person can proclaim to be religious and be an evil, hateful person at the same time. Or they can be a wonderful giving person. The opposite can be true too. There is no causation or correlation between the two.

3) I have had a Whoop health tracker for the past several years. Other than a one-month span, I haven't had any issues. But I need to decide if I want to renew it or cancel my service for another year. The metrics are getting better, but I wonder if there is something even better out there.

4) I am getting a new windshield for my truck. I had a chip that was so low on the windshield, that it was not visible unless you were standing on one of the tires... well, that chip decided to expand.

5) Have you had good or bad experiences dealing with USPS? When you go into the post office, is it an enjoyable experience?

Welcome back to Five Things Tuesday. Anything new?

I've been working out of town for two months.

I bought a new bike. It's not an ebike. It's a step-through frame, formerly known as a girls bike.

My car passed inspection.

I have a new granddaughter. We'll, she's two months old.

1 - Evidently the way you get Spectrum's attention during a construction project is to make multiple phone calls from multiple people to the resident engineer.
2 - 75, sunny, few clouds, light breeze - such a nice day
3 - right knee is still sore & swollen slightly from the weekend
4 - I guess I'll mow the lawn on Thursday
5 - if there is a sign on the sidewalk that says 'sidewalk closed', why did you think it was okay to walk around it into a construction zone?

3. Looking forward to playing golf and then watching the LPGA this weekend in St. George.

5. Onions are planted.

1. Root canal tomorrow.
2. Thank God for NSAIDS.
3. Itty Bitty went out for a run on her own this evening. ❤️
4. No Tacos today.
5. Bleh.

1) I didn't get a chance to get the crockpot chicken tacos started, so off to a Mexican restaurant we will go.

2) New health & fitness program starts on Thursday. Kind of like a 75-day challenge thing... but more of a 'reset' than a challenge. I am going to miss some of the foods.

3) Had a meeting last night that ran long. None of the stuff that I asked the kids to do got done. Wife had a rough day at work so she didn't get after them to get those things done either.

4) It is raining here. I might wait until it lets up to depart for the day.

5) I ordered some ferns early this year... only 3 of the 20 that I ordered came up. I asked for a refund of the rest of them. They asked for photographic evidence that they are dead. So I emailed pictures of the flower beds without ferns.

I was planning on tacos but went for a bicycle ride with a new group right after work. It was almost 9 when I got home and didn't feel like cooking anything so I just had a yogurt.
I made tacos yesterday for the first time in a long time, marinated some chicken thighs and threw them on the grill. just added onions and cilantro and salsa.

I get the smoke pulled pork from Costco, divide it up into servings, and freeze what I don't use for later. It's a quick and tasty prep.

1 - as Ed Sullivan would say "we got a really big show tonight" which will be our council meeting
2 - this is all due to a new councilman posting something very offensive and thinking it was okay - news team already setup
3 - the downtown project isn't done yet, but its close and we'll be using the area for the big spring festival on Saturday so the contractors are cleaning today
4 - we've decided to eat cereal for dinner at least twice a week
5 - yesterday I went to a memorial service for one of my friends and mentor, he will be greatly missed.

4 - feel like I need one of dandy's famous naps this afternoon
5 - budget meeting #2 starts @ 5:00 pm.

1) Took a 25 minute nap at lunch. According to my health tracker, I was able to get 7 minutes of deep sleep and 10 minutes or REM sleep. I was going to head out for a walk for the rest of my lunch, but as soon as I stepped out, it started to rain.

2) Last night's meeting was around 22 minutes. The majority was grant check presentations. I can deal with that.

3) I am about to go into a 2 hour process meeting. I am not looking forward to it and I know there will be push back to what is being presented. I am not wearing my suit coat to it.

4) Chance of Thunderstorms again this weekend. The weather is not making my wife happy. We have had some rain almost every day and our lawn isn't drying out. She really wants to get out into the yard to do some work.

5) 250 years ago today, George Washington wrote in his journal "This was Saturday, the day all members of Congress met together for dinner at the City Tavern."

1. I think dandy's famous naps in the afternoon show a lack of moral fibre. More importantly, how did her naps get famous?

4. I'm having trouble maintaining enthusiasm for my garden this year
5. Who here lives a double life?

3 - we have no plans for the 'holiday' weekend except a day trip to the mountains
4 - wondering if the garlic is ready to harvest because the flowers Mrs. P planted nearby are taking over
5 - The Girl cooked tofu & broccoli for dinner last night.

1) Decided to practice my German so downloaded Duolingo. Having fun so far!

2) If layoff continues long after vacation, may visit sister in Switzerland and practice!

3) Do have some interviews lined up for before the vacation.

4) However, have to admit I like not working. But I will get bored eventually.

5) Once nice thing about not working - lots of time to read!!!

1. I want a pony!
2. Actually, no I don't
3. Trying out a new compliance order remedy for snipe signs
