Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley - suburban, ex-urban,or urban w/ rural fringe?

Which would you consider the following?


Oxnard
Ventura
Thousand Oaks
Camarillo
Simi Valley

I would say Oxnard and Simi Valley are ex-urban, and the rest are rural suburban.
 
I have a friend who lives just off of US 101 in Thousand Oaks, CA and from all that I can tell, it is typical southern California suburban. He commutes from there into the San Fernando Valley (Woodland Hills) section of Los Angeles every workday. It is heavily developed in the normal manner and I cannot find a true old 'village core' in it from studying high-resolution air photos of the area.

With so few active posters from California here, HITF could this Midwestern and Eastern dominated forum provide an opinion?


This thought comes to you from a northern California native who avoided SoCal like it was the plague, so I can't answer your question.
