A new study has ranked San Francisco and Portland, Oregon as the most environmentally sustainable cities in the country. The organization SustainLane ranked the cities on 12 categories ranging from transportation to energy use. Other cities ranked in the top 10 were: Berkeley, Seattle, Santa Monica, Austin, New York, Chicago, Oakland, Minneapolis and Denver. At the bottom of the list were Alburquerque, Houston & Detroit.
Surprising to me was the Big Apple at #7. It's air quality kept it from ranking higher, but it's the king of compact development. I've never been to Alburquerque, but I was also surprised to see it ranked so poorly.
