Daily things 5️⃣ Three Things Thursday

1. New driver shaft arrived today and I can actually play golf in Northern Utah, in January.
2. Wife's package via USPS I posted about earlier in another thread that a one point was a few miles from our house, is back in NJ.
3. No idea what to make for dinner - will check the freezer.

  1. Six public records requests came in yesterday, so I will be busy with those.

  2. I haven’t climbed stairs in a long time, since I am not working in the 17 story tower anymore. Thinking I should repurpose the stairs to the dark, scary basement in our building for a few minutes every day as a makeshift workout.

  3. A quiet weekend planned except for taking one of the birds to the vet.

1. Need to get September Alaska cruise excursions booked.
2. Hopefully a spot remains on the crab feast.
3. Beyond that, wandering local ports is on the agenda.

1. I don't eat pretzels in Chex mix. I'm happy to put them in a Ziplok bag and mail them to someone.

2. I listened to Beach Boys Endless Summer. It didn't give me enough summer vibes to counteract winter.

3. All Summer Long is my favorite Beach Boys song.

1. Son (19) leaving for a job interview at a car dealership (in the shop) and he is wearing a BRCC graphic t-shirt.
2. I said the wrong attire for a job interview, regardless of the location.
3. I evidently don't know what I'm taking about.

1. We had a strategic planning retreat all day yesterday and it was surprisingly fruitful.
2. I've had some opportunities present themselves to me recently but I'm 49 weeks from being vested and quite frankly, that's a big chunk of change to leave on the table when retirement planning is in your thoughts. Talk to me again in 2027 and I may be a lot more receptive.
3. Could actually get measurable snow this weekend. Not happy. At all.

1) @kms Beach Boys music brings back good memories for me as a kid. When we were little, my mom would need to work evenings on weekends so my dad would put a record on and he, my sister, and I would listen to that as we cleaned the house. Although an impromptu dance party would almost always break out and my dad would wait until the end of the song before asking us to get back to work.

2) The weather as really F-ed up things down here. Today is day 4 of 'remote working if you can' as all City Facilities are closed, but I am in the office.

3) One of my coworkers pointed out that I am either in a suit or I am in jeans and a ball cap... there is no in between.

1. Back from a work trip in L.A.. The weather was nice, when I ventured from the hotel.

2. My folks are flying in from Denver right now. First trip since I moved into my new place.

3. My office really needs to get their processes organized.

1) Feels like a Tuesday, as it's the second day of work this icy week.

2) No big plans this weekend. Will be freezing cold again, but they say not as icy.

3) Figured out something today that had been stumping me. I feel smart!!

  • I was out sick yesterday, something that only happens about once a year.
  • Not sure if I should wear my 2010 Olympics Gear or a football jersey tomorrow in honor of two major sporting events happening this weekend. We have moved our annual Superb Owl Party to our HOA clubhouse rather than our house--more room.
  • We are beginning to make our plans to visit Los Angeles 2028.

1. Hosting book club on Sunday.

2. Itty Bitty is throwing a fit because she "will be stuck in her room!!!"

3. We are the worst parents ever.

1) Had a tour of projects with the ED director. I got car sick and made her pull over -twice.

2) The rest of the day had better be calm.

3) Don't know or care what's for dinner tonight.

1) When it rains it pours. I now have three massive projects that are in very early due diligence periods. Each with extremely different variables but all three have significant economic impacts to the community. It scares the hell out of me if all three are a go!

2) I bought squares for the super bowl from my sister's group. I have 4-9, 6-8, 1-1 (Pats - SH). I will likely watch the Olympics instead.

3) I have business after hours at a brewery followed by a Planning Board meeting. Guess who will not be having a beverage.... :disappointed"

1. Experienced my first earthquake - a little underwhelming - 3.4 magnitude.
2. Enjoying the non-winter weather.
3. Preliminaries Mixed doubles curling - USA beats Norway.

1. Finally caved and bought a pair of those wireless earbuds that just sit in your ear without being plugged your phone. Not sure if I am going to like them, but the fact I can pause a podcast by simply touching my ear is a big plus. I keep the earbud in one ear so the other ear is available to talk on the phone.

2. We are supposed to get a big snowstorm this weekend, beginning Saturday night and on through Monday. Will it be enough to shut us down Tuesday? Who knows.

3. I have added “Five Good News Stories” to my daily podcast rotation, second up every day right after “The Indicator.” It’s exactly what it sounds like and is about three minutes long. I seldom make midseason adjustments, but in this day and age I figured: Why not? Other than that, my next scheduled podcast schedule adjustment is March 2. (My “seasons” begin on the first Monday of March, June, September, and December.)

3a. I really should add the American Planning Association Podcast into the mix somewhere.

1. My office is cold even though the outside is a much warmer 33 degrees F
2. Budget crunch time is so stressful as I have 7 budgets I am responsible for - it's not as bad as Public Works but still...
3. I ordered a turkey Rueben for lunch today - I usually bring leftovers form home but on payday I often treat myself
4. I woke up at 4 and didn't completely go back asleep and now I am sleepy

1) Wife had a really rough day yesterday. She didn't want to talk about it which likely means that she lost a patient. She had to go in early to get caught up on some other work this morning. I really hope today is a better day.

2) I have no idea what I am going to do for lunch today. However I have a 2 PM meeting off site, so I decided to delay lunch until 1.

3) I started reading Robert Greene's Power... and decided not to continue. While it might be accurate on how to achieve power, the first several laws are characteristics of someone that I don't want to be. Actually reminded me a bit of the guy who is in a corner-less office right now.

Most people here go home for lunch. Since it's a minimum 35 minute drive for me, that's not an option; I bring all my food in for the week on Monday, and eat it throughout the week. But, once every couple of weeks, I go take off to the sandwich shop or pizza place as a getaway.

90% of the time, I eat lunch and then go for a walk around the neighborhood. Oddly, our City Hall is placed in the middle of a neighborhood of single-family detached houses.
