I think transportation was the topic I knew the least about technically going in. But it seemed like most of my questions were about infrastructure and finance. The "best" community engagement methods questions also seemed a little weird to me.
 
1) I am absolutely going to RJ tomorrow afternoon.
2) We have a large front lawn in front of our City Hall that our PW dept does a phenominal job maintaining. Last time they mowed it, it looked like a freaking professional baseball outfield.
3) We had one subdivision denied on Monday, one subdivision withdrew their request on yesterday, and we got confirmation this morning that a multi-tenant commercial rezoning pulled their request too.
 
1. Last night's EDM/VAN game is an example of why you should NOT turn the game off in disgust after two periods. I was very tempted to do so, but am glad I did not.

2. Just signed the contract and hired the siding guy. That'll be $13,000 please. We are pretty sure the siding is original to the house (1997) so it needs to be done. I hate seeing a significant chunk of our savings disappear, but at least it went into something beneficial. I'll have to arrange working from home while the work is done in June. Let's see how much I can get done with all that hammering.

3. How the hell is Melissa Gilbert aka "Half Pint" 60 years old already?

We've had a lot of projects here get cancelled recently, too, many of which were well underway. :-(

2. Long weekend ahead - no plans yet, hoping the weather cooperates for some house projects that have been on the list for a while now.
3. Gearing up for a short vacation starting end of next week, currently fending off any and all attempts at booking meetings/deliverables during that time.
 
1. It's either going to be very slow at the counter tomorrow (everyone at the lake), or very busy (everyone realizing they have to get business taken care of before they go to the lake). Not sure which. The "spate of three summer holidays in a few weeks" begins Monday.

2. For the life of me, I don't understand why, when there are two lanes that turn left onto a street, everyone crowds into one, leaving the other empty. This applies even for turn lanes onto onramps, which all merge into one lane anyway. This is a Nevada thing, as I've never seen it elsewhere. Even at one major intersection near me, where there are three left turn lanes, people use the left and right left turn lanes, and leave the middle left turn lane vacant.

3. Thinking I may take time this weekend to do a simulated AICP test online to see how I'll do. I am hoping to take it for real in the fall. (Was planning for spring this year, but various life events got in the way.)
 
1. I'm eager for the work week to be over but am curiously unexcited about the Memorial Day weekend
2. I have a case of LaBatts in the fridge
3. A number of chores to do in the yard this weekend

1) No major plans for the long weekend except visiting family and a short hike.

2) Hubby had dental work done this morning. He took the whole day off to recover.

3) I'm not feeling the love for work today. Need sleep, or more caffeine. Already had a lot of caffeine, so hopefully a nap.
 
1-was up @ 4:30 to drive to the airport to pick up The Girl
2-then doctor appt was @ 9:00
3-retirement reception for a colleague @ 4:00

1. My policy is to ignore calls on my personal cell from random numbers. I don't answer, and, if no voice message or text is left, I assume it's not important.

2. Re-organized the garage Satruday. You wouldn't believe how many times I said, "Oh! That's where that went!"

3. Sometimes I miss HQTrivia, but it was great in its heyday. We used to play it together as an office every day at noon. We've all moved on to Wordle and such now though. What is Matt Richards doing nowadays?
 
1. Four items on our PC agenda tonight in Storey County . . . three should be straightforward, one will be contentious. I am packing an overnight bag in case it runs so late I am too tired to drive down that twisty road back home.

2. Found a copy of the Local Planning "green book" through interlibrary loan. Good to skim through, but I probably don't need to read it cover to cover.

3. Happy Convoy Day!! I should tear up all of my swindle sheets.

I loved that song as a toddler . . . I think that and the TV show "ChiPS" are THE reasons I became a road geek. But did you know it wasn't until I was in my 30's that I learned that the chorus is "gonna roll this TRUCKIN' convoy?" I always sang it a different way, the way my brother did, with a word that rhymes with "truckin'." Or, subconsciously, why we bought a house on a street named "Chartreuse?"

I like to play American Truck Simulator occasionally. Can't go coast-to-coast yet, but I think I have 11 or 12 states.

2) I found out this morning that I have to work on Saturday at a regional expo. The CM was going to do it, so now it has fallen on me.
3) It is going to be in the 90's on Sunday. I think I might need to take some time off house work and go swimming with the kids.

1. Read that Nick Cannon is going to have a "meet and greet" for his kids. I think it would be more fun if they all wore costumes and sang a song, and he had to figure out who was who based on the clue package.

2. That Atlanta bus hijacking reminds me of a certain mediocre movie from the 1990's.

3. Siding on track to be all replaced by June 19 (but I think he means June 20 since the 19th is a holiday). House looking much better already.

Well, we will find out. An extra day or two isn't going to matter AFAIK.

I normally have Tuesdays off with 4/10's, but in a holiday week I work 4/8's with the holiday off.
 
1. Hanging in the hospital with a Kurdish woman who has lived in Germany for 30 years. And I saw her nekkid bum.

3. Good thing I can run anymore so I'm not tempted to spend time out in the sun.
 
1 - I'd like to think I'll never experience a work moment like dandy

2 - went down to construction site this morning & saw all 5 workers just sitting around looking at their phones (that was my work experience today)

3 - downtown concert tonight is gonna be HOT

1. I bought "World of Subways 3," which simulates the Circle Line in London. I find driving tube trains around very relaxing, even if this installment of the game is a bit more complex than the others.

2. Siding is complete, so we will now turn to our next project for next year: doing something with backyard, which is still the same weed-and-rock filled area it was when we bought the place over a decade ago. Plans are for a transport-and-dollhouse themed mini-golf course, with a gazebo and water feature.

3. When they replaced the siding, they removed our house numbers from our house, which is no big deal, since we wanted to get new ones anyway. I think it would be fun to put the address up in hexadecimal or roman numerals. Wife, though, thinks this could confuse the fire department if/when we ever need to call them. She does make a good point.

1. Already 85 degrees with 76% humidity. A bit swampy today I'd say!
2. Decided to paint the porch ceilings Haint Blue on the new house. Problem is there are a zillion different shades. Decisions, decisions.
3. Trying to come up with a new design everyone can agree upon for business cards is proving to be an exercise in futility.
 
  1. Moving Companies Suck. The quotes that have been coming back have been ridiculous. Looks like we will just go with the company that will leave a medium size tailer in our cul-de-sac and we will have the whole weekend to load it up. Based on the calculations, we need around 2000 cubic feet of space. That does not include what we will be putting in our vehicles to drive out there.
  2. My undergrad program hired a new hockey coach. He played on the 1991 team that won the NCAA championship and was an assistant coach when I went there. The AD is the guy who was the coach from the 1970 - 1990s.
  3. One of the best parts of moving is the decluttering.

I spent I want to Say 2 grand to move 50 miles. And I actually moved a truck and multiple car loads before that. The weird thing is the company was cash only. At least they worked fast.

At the end of the day that's not too bad, really. I mean there are pretty much two critical criteria where movers are concerned: how fast and how careful. But yeah, no doubt they'll be claiming all of that two grand in cash on their taxes.

Most moving companies are like that. You can usually do a deposit on a card but when your stuff gets to where it's going, you better have cash to put in their hand or your stuff stays on the truck. I have no idea why it is that way but it is.

COD moves mean the only leverage the mover has is the household goods on the van. Without cash or certified check, that's where the household goods are going to stay, too. Call the cops if you like, but it's in the contract you signed when we agreed to provide the service, so there's nothing the cops can do.

The worst part is when there's been a wreck and the goods are damaged. You take the cash/check, then have to tell them the bad news. There's good news though - the payment includes the insurance on the goods. There's more bad news, though - that insurance was $0.60/lb when I worked in the industry (so a 50 pound dresser was valued at $30.00).

Happened to my brother, but never to me. Most of my moves were corporate accounts (including executives for a certain department store @U19 loved), so we didn't need to leverage the household goods.

I spent a little more than that moving 7 miles. I did have an extra stop at a self storage to grab a couple of mattresses. I luckily had gotten the city to give me some money for moving so I wasn't really shopping for the best deal.

My former boss somehow had the truck go missing for about 3 days on a 600 mile move to Florida. Luckily most of the money was due on delivery and he didn't pay. He felt that since the company could tell him where most of his worldly possession were for half a week and they had to buy and sleep on air mattresses, he shouldn't have to pay.

We are putting apple air tags in several boxes to make sure our stuff stays together and so we can track it as it goes. We also decided that almost all of our clothing will travel with us, along with sleeping bags and similar essentials. That way if we are without our stuff or a week or so, it won't be as big of a deal. This includes an iron and steamer in case our stuff does not arrive before I need to start work.
