Daily things 5️⃣ Three Things Thursday

1. I never thought it would be possible but I think I have eaten too much cereal during the past month.
2. End of the year could be interesting.
3. Slightly ashamed to admit I watched the most recent season of Sex and the City...And just like that... and kind of enjoyed it.

1) The temp outside is 106. Inside it's 66. And they wonder why our dept keeps complaining about the temps in here.

2) Going out for dinner this weekend - date night!

3) Need to get estimates on replacement windows.

1. Flight arrived Monday 3:00AM, four hours late and I stayed up until 5:00AM because we were under a tornado watch and there were wicked storms in the immediate vicinity.
2. Budget hearing last night was way better than anticipated, but the run-up was pretty stressful nonetheless.
3. Not the Town Next DoorTM hosting a regional workshop in September. I don't know what their definition of regional is if they are showing stuff in my 'burg but not inviting me. Harumphhh.

1. We didn't have a single 30c degree (90F) day here in August, which is rare.
2. Next week temperatures are forecast to be in the mid 30c's so...
3. Today is my 21st wedding anniversary.

1. We had the ribbon cutting ceremony that reopened our municipal building after the renovations this summer.
2. The stairs upstairs aren't done though and they are still taped off.
3. The cookies disappeared before our Manager announced that we have cookies.

1. Many people are at Burning Man this week so the office is quiet.
2. There is a rib cookoff in the next town over. Yum!
3. Local AAA baseball team has a homestand, so I'll be there all weekend.

Jim

1) Created some templates for different projects - putting my touch on the process.

2) Brought my lunch today and I'm hungry.

3) Get off early tomorrow and then long weekend!

1) Delivered a so-so presentation this morning - knocked off my game a bit as they were running about 30 minutes behind.
2) I actually find it harder to deliver these online than in-person.
3) Wife is away with girlfriends for the weekend, so I'll be living the bachelor life.

1) I dug deep into our local 2020 US Census Data this morning. I lost the remaining bits of faith that I had in the numbers. It claimed we had 0 males aged 20 - 24 in our entire Town. I assure you that is not the case. On the other hand, it also indicated that there is a block group just outside our corporate limits that has a very high median family income, whereas a block group just south of our downtown has a median family income in the lower 20K range. The listed margin of error for these figures is 30% of the value, which makes me question the accuracy of that too.

2) I watched the video regarding the new iPhone... not impressed since it does not appear to be a significant improvement over my 2 year old iPhone.

3) Tonight I am going to cook grilled salmon with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, and then I have homework to do.

1. One more long-ass day until the weekend.
2. Reading a new book I like and one that I am not thrilled with but a friend asked me to read so she would have someone to talk about it with.
3. What's the point?

1. First day of fall, and that means fall allergies. Benadryl makes me loopy.

2. I learned yesterday that one of the casinos here in Reno has its own zip code. I am more fascinated by this than I should be--no other casino in Nevada does, to my knowledge.

3. Our male cockatiel is going to start molting any day. He has some loose feathers. He's normally sweet and docile but he's a crabby cuss during molting season.

1. Today I learned about the competition for Native American casinos in California.

2. Itty Bitty's attempting her German homework and it is stressing me out!

3. Why is everything stressful?

1. Do you remember - the 21st night of September?
2. Large grant awarded, awaiting sharing news with the public. We're riding in the caboose of this train, but we are onboard and most of our neighbors aren't.
3. My second visit tomorrow to the Big University Town in our state in my nearly 40 years in this state. Will be happy to come back home to my little 'burg when all is done and said.

1. Next week I only have to work 2 days!
2. Took a pilates class in German yesterday. We walked around and the teacher scolded us for our posture.
3. Meetings where people only talk about how wonderful they are are so frustrating and a waste of time.

1. Repainting our master bathroom is a more-involved process than I thought.

2. "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" is a really fun movie. Be sure to stay through all the credits.

3. We are starting to think about our department's Halloween theme. Mario, Spongebob, Alice in Wonderland, and Willy Wonka are all being considered.

1) Youngest has a choir concert tonight. He is not all that fired up about it and says he wants to stop going to choir, but is a hell of a singer. Last year he had a solo and did phenominal.

2) I am working on an RFQ for a space study for our City Hall and Police Station buildings. The PW director is pissed because he does not want anything to change in City Hall but there is just so much wasted space and for what is avalible we are out growing at such a rapid pace.

3) Do you think that people in suit and tie get treated better than those who are not?

3. Yes, definitely.

1. Almost finished an escape room earlier this week. Took the wife and me 64 minutes, 4 minutes over the alloted time. The game guy gave us an extra few minutes, but it still counts as a loss.

2. NDOT finally finished extending the onramp onto the freeway from our small town. Much needed and huge improvement--no more need to blindly merge onto I-80 at 60 mph.

3. We watched the movie "Mud" the other day. Not a bad way to spend a couple hours. The movie is a decade or so old, but still a good one. No need to see it again though--once is enough.

Jim

1) Have to finish a couple projects today and neither one excites me.

2) Think I'm going to get both the covid and the flu shot this weekend.

3) I didn't win the Powerball last night.

Regarding #3, of course not, because you are at work. :)
As for #2, I took both on the same day last year and was sick for two days afterward. Really beat up my immune system.

1. Looking forwarding to making the trek on Saturday out to Winnemucca to see the eclipse. Planning on leaving Reno well before dawn. Forecast right now is for "mostly cloudy"; hopefully the clouds hold off until after the eclipse is over.

2. Heading to Tahoe next week for the state APA conference. I'm needed in the office Monday, so I'll just attend Tuesday (my normal day off). Should still be worthwhile.

3. Our 7-year-old TV died Tuesday. The picture kept blinking on and off. We decided it would cost less to simply buy a new one (less than $200) than to have someone fix the old one. So, off to Best Buy we went. I miss the old days of "screw in the rabbit ears, plug it in to the wall, and you're good to go."

1. 45* today w/rain and snow in mountains
2. Son missed his shot on his elk - few more days to fill the freezer.
3. Too bad the world cannot all get along.

1) Been having trouble sleeping lately, so today I'm really dragging.

2) Got my shots, had a sore arm and a day of general blah-ness, but no major side effects.

3) Going to the State Fair this weekend!:popcorn: (need a funnel cake emoji!)

1. It is the culmination of our fall festival beginning today with four days of booths set up in our downtown. Something like 600,000 visits are expected between now and Sunday evening and another 300,000 are said to have participated in events leading up to today including a parade I've successfully avoided 34 times now. If you can believe it (I'm not completely sure I do) ours is said to be the third largest in the state behind only the Sate Fair and a festival for a certain 500-mile car race held up yonder.
2. One of my presents for my child's upcoming birthday arrived yesterday from the big online retailer but not in their usual delivery trucks. This truck had a lift gate on the back for those large bulky purchases. My child has their own apartment now and schlepping the box there and up to their garrett apartment will be impossible for this old f@rt, not to mention fitting it in my hatchback or their sedan. We'll have to be creative and may even amuse the neighbors walking down the street carrying bedrails. ("Honey, there goes the neighborhood. Time to sell ...")
3. It's not technically Indian summer here, but today and tomorrow are in the low 80s and I'm just done with hot weather for this year. Bring on some frosty mornings finally!

1. got 2 shots in (Pneumonia & Flu) , 2 more to go (RSV & Covid booster)
2. My USGS National Map Corps editing statistic - 18,650+ structure location points since I joined in 2015.
3. less than 3 months until I retire.

1. Our big festival starts tomorrow after work. Lots of rain today but I think it's going to be pretty decent for the weekend.
2. Journey tribute band is the main act Saturday. I think some bands lend themselves to tribute bands more than others. Journey is not one of them.
3. I am instituting some big changes around here. They aren't all going to be well received but it's for the good of the organization.

State fairs in October? I always thought they were a summer thing, but October makes sense since that's harvest season.

Nevada doesn't have a state fair, but we often go to Calfornia's. Problem is it's on asphalt, in Sacramento, in July where it's usually 105 degrees or so, and the asphalt makes it even hotter. Maybe they should look at moving it to October.

1. Went to the state APA conference this week in Tahoe. I was needed at the office so I couldn't go for the whole event, but I did visit on Tuesday since that's my normal day off. It was a busy day. It's the first big conference held at the new event center.

2. Today is the "Great Nevada Shakeout," where at 10:19 we all pretend we are having an earthquake and dive under our desks. But we had two real ones (small) yesterday so I think that's enough practice.

3. Apparently somebody has been going around painting curbs red in a residential neighborhood in our city. These "unauthorized red zones" do not mean people can't park there, so we can't enforce it as a no parking zone (nor do we). If we find out who's doing it, we will make him/her remove the paint.

1) Didn't do the State Fair last weekend due to a shooting there, so we are tentatively going this weekend.

2) New windows at the house! Man, that was loud and dusty!

3) I'm ready for a nap!

1. 5:19 and I am home and in my jammies and under a blanket.
2. One day more, until the weekend.
3. Getting excited for Christmas market season!!

1) The dress shirt situation with Jos A Bank is done. Strike 3 in availability. I just ordered what I needed from Charles Tyrwhitt and called it good.
2) Forever Strong: A New, Science-Based Strategy for Aging by Gabrielle Lyon looks like an interesting book and is next up on my book list one I finish with the CNU-A reading stuff.
3) Investment forms suck. I am filling out forms to roll a 457 over from when I worked with Maister to my current employer funded 457 (which is doing way better than the old one) and the form they sent me will not let me type in it, edit it, or do anything other than print it out and fill in the spaces with a pen.

1. Don't cry for me Cyburbia. The truth is I never left you
2. My dog is certainly itching a lot
3. I had leftover popcorn for breakfast
4. I feel like actual (political) accountability is beginning to happen. Bout time
5. Skull and crossbones

1. Tomorrow is a holiday, so today is actually Friday! Yay!
2. Downside to that is, because of the way our pay period works, that means I have to work Tuesday, October 31, my normal day off.
3. But at least it's only 8 hours instead of 10.

1. Hydration in the morning is tough. Well, there's coffee but that's a diuretic
2. return the kindness of those who have treated you well
3. do not make life easy for those who have trespassed against you

1. Big Planning Commission meeting up in Virginia City tonight. We've moved it to a bigger venue since it is supposed to be contentious. As the chair, I suppose I should be there, but I'm pretty tired and it's been a long week. Adreniline and caffeine will kick in, though, I hope.

2. We only had about 10 kids come to our door on Halloween, so we have lots of leftover candy. I am using it to stock candy bowls throughout City Hall. (Shh.)

3. The best time to fart on a road trip is when you are passing a field of cows.

1. I've got to go out and make my way I might get rich, you know, I might get busted
2. We've got waaay too much candy floating around our house.
3. My brother and I as kids used to accuse each other of cracking 'ham farts' every time we drove past a certain meat packing plant.

What is a "ham fart" and how is that different from a regular fart? (Wow, this discussion sure is going off the rails. :) )
